This was our first time at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal. We travel to Mexico often staying at all-inclusive resorts with a family. Reading mixed reviews about the property, we did not know what to expect but all in all, we have enjoyed our stay except for a few minor things that can be improved. Before our arrival, I reached out to the hotel and placed a request for 2 connecting rooms or at least close to each other. As we arrived, our rooms were ready to be checked in, however, due to the location of the building we asked to be a bit closer to all the main activities. The resort is very large and buildings are spread around with some within walking distance to the main lobby, main buffet, pool, and the beach and some needing transportation. Since my mom cannot walk long distances, we have kindly asked to be placed closer to the lobby and the front desk was kind enough to accommodate our request and assigned 2 rooms next to each other within 5 minutes walking distance to the main activities. There were a lot of coatis and agoutis that would come out in the evening and come close to our balcony and my daughter had fun observing them. Reading reviews about smelly rooms and some rooms with AC not working properly, we did not know what to expect. Our rooms were standard Junior Suite rooms and they were a bit outdated with mosquitos flying around. We kind of were prepared for it as we have stayed in some resorts in the past with the same issue but we did not pay much attention to it as we barely spent any time in rooms except for some day naps and nights and I am always carrying mosquito and bug spray everywhere I go. We had no issues with AC and, during the day, we turned it off and only had a fan running. At night, we put the AC on low and even asked for an extra blanket because it was quite chilly. So as far as room conditions, they can be improved as rooms are outdated. The main pool is pretty large and had plenty of lounge chairs but there were not enough umbrellas. Many people would claim spots very early in the morning so if you coming after 8 AM, it is impossible to get a good spot. We have alternated between the pool and the beach. The water in the pool was pretty warm. The beach is more of a man-made and the water is pretty shallow so not for swimmers. However, there were different fish and even a sting ray which was unusual. Since kid's water parks are only located at Coba and Tulum sections, we went to both. There are trains to take you between properties and it usually takes between 5-10 minutes to wait. We took a walk on the beach to the Tulum section and used the kids' water park as well as the regular pools. They have a great beach buffet for a quick bite or a light lunch which my daughter enjoyed. We only went to 2 a la carte restaurants - Dolce Vita, which is an Italian restaurant although we have requested authentic Mexican, and Frutos Del Mar, a seafood restaurant. The service at both was great and the food was good. We
