Ryokan Hanaya

It's conveniently located just a short walk from the station. The building is over 100 years old, so it's old-fashioned and relaxing. It was also great that we could try out three different types of baths. One of them was an open-air bath, and the changing room was outdoors, so I think you need to take precautions against the cold during the cold winter months. The inn also gave us free tickets to three public hot springs. The food was kaiseki cuisine, and the ingredients were delicious, including local wagyu beef shabu-shabu. There were temples and other sights to see around the inn, so it was a good place for a stroll.

When I checked in, I was surprised to see a woman wearing a Taisho Roman style arrow pattern and hakama. His demeanor is relaxed and truly retro. Impatient people may get irritated. Everything is Japanese retro. The lobby and the hallway that runs through the garden are truly retro. The scenery looked like something you could see in a historical drama. There are 3 baths. The two bathrooms are divided into a men's bath and a women's bath depending on the time of day. The open-air baths are separate for men and women, with separate entrances. Meals are taken in the dining hall, and the pillars and beams of this dining hall are reminiscent of a castle. At breakfast, the woman in yesterday's hakama and kimono was wearing a black dress and white apron. It was a Taisho romantic maid costume. Dinner includes 3 seasonal matsutake mushroom dishes. I had a relaxing time for the first time in a while.

I used it on a solo winter trip. Hot springs are the best. Each kaiseki meal is handmade, the soup stock is very delicious, and the staff's hospitality is top-notch. The fresh flowers, the menu, and the service from check-in to check-out are all pleasant.The interior of the hotel has a Taisho Romantic atmosphere, and the costumes of the waitresses are tailored to suit the occasion, such as kimono, arrow pattern, and maid uniform. . The scenery of the corridor running through the courtyard is very nice ♪

We stayed in a detached room with an open-air bath. You can see the cherry blossoms from the open-air bath, and you can enjoy a luxurious time many times a day (because you took a bath many times). I think this is one of the few ryokan in Japan where you can enjoy authentic kaiseki cuisine. (Isn't it hard to find a ryokan that serves such authentic Japanese food?) The large public bath has a retro feel and the quality of the hot springs is good. It is an "extraordinary world" that shows us.

The bathroom and changing room were equipped with a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, and body soap.・Dinner from 6 p.m. and breakfast from 8 a.m. are all made with plenty of seasonal and local ingredients, and I was impressed from beginning to end. It was so delicious that I was moved by the taste. The dishes were all beautiful and I was very excited. For breakfast, green tea is served to go with the Japanese food, but those who prefer coffee or black tea can also use the in-house tea room. You can also order alcoholic drinks and non-alcoholic drinks at dinner. Room service is also apparently available. 🟡About the area around the facility - There are no convenience stores or supermarkets around Bessho Onsen Station, so if you want to make sure to bring your own drinks, etc., and are heading to Bessho Onsen by train from Ueda Station, there are some shops near Ueda Station. It might be better to buy what you need before heading out.・

It is an old, well-maintained inn with a Taisho-roman feel that makes you feel the quality of its wooden construction. The hallways are creaky when you walk through them, and the building is located on a slope, so there are stairs and steps here and there, so it's not barrier-free, but it must be a lot of work to maintain and manage a building of that size. The tableware, stationery, yukata, and tatami mats had the inn's flower crest and cherry blossom patterns, and I felt a sense of pride in a good way. The hot springs are fed directly from the source and have a sulfur scent, but due to the quality of the hot springs, the bathroom floor can be slippery, so be careful if you are worried about your footing. We had our meals in the dining room of our room, and the hot food was kept hot and the cold food was delivered to our room each time.The food was delicious, but the portions may have been a bit large for someone in their 60s.
