The hotel is quite nice and modern by Viennese standards. The staff is nice and eager. Unfortunately, the rooms are somewhat dated and housekeeping is not good - think coffee stains and trash in the room, quite modern shower not working properly. The worst part, at least for me, however, was the cigar lounge. The hotel is mentioning that they have a cigar lounge - you can find this on their website, AmEx mentions this as well as GHA (adding screen shot from their homepage below). While they indeed have a smokers lounge, you cannot order drinks there. And you are also not allowed to bring in your own drinks. I don’t know what the Austrian laws are, but if they are indeed not allowed to let anyone bring in their own drinks, they shouldn’t advertise having a cigar lounge. I don’t think there is another cigar lounge anywhere else in the world where you cannot drink anything. I asked to talk to the manager on duty to see whether we could fine a solution to this, but there was no manager available (at 9:30 pm). The front staff was very nice and professional in handling my complaint, but couldn’t decide anything. A very smug assistant to the manager explained to me the next day that they had not advertised anything wrongly as a cigar lounge didn’t imply that one would be able to consume beverages there - I strongly disagree. This guy managed to annoy me even further given his way to address things - he should learn from the front staff who are much better and more diplomatic than he is. So I ended up having to smoke the expensive cigar I had brought and drink the champagne I had bought on the French balcony in my room in the pouring room, trying to juggle an umbrella over me. By the way, the GHA website didn‘t mention that the balconies were only French balconies. So if you’re thinking about booking this hotel because of the cigar bar (as I did) - stay away and book a room with a large balcony either at the Ritz Carlton or the Hotel Imperial.
