A very unique place with fantastic rooms - done to fit into nature, with esprit and very cosy. When we finished hiking we always looked forward to be back in this little paradise. The beds are super comfortable. The kitchenette is small but works, the only thing they could add is a toaster, in the room or in the common area.

Excellent place! We went for the Mauna Kea room (take a look at the photos). Not overlooked by any neighbors so total privacy and it has a private veranda area too. There was an adjacent neighbor that the bathrooms backed on to but that's to be expected to minimize plumbing and maintenance in a rain forst reserve. Note that all the rooms have their own bathroom and shower at Volcano Village Lodge so no sharing with strangers. Breakfast is part of the booking and is placed in your fridge by the house service while youre out. Very high quality. We got the romantic couples package that came with prosecco and chocolate fruits on arrival. Can't thank and praise staff enough (Tasha and Carlos). So friendly. Perfect location to see the Volcano crater and then drive around the island.

To start, there is more space and privacy between cabins at a kids camp. We could see two other cabins and had to keep the blinds closed for any semblance of privacy. Their lights were on all night and the blinds are not black out so you have that light all night… As others have mentioned, the “fresh” breakfast is delivered the morning before so who knows how long it’s been sitting around by the next morning when you heat it up in the microwave. Nothing fresh about it. If you have more than one dietary need, only one may be met, like mine. A allergy was honored, but my request for no meat was not. Very disappointing and no correction… I had to pick the meat out of my breakfast. Very upsetting. We had booked a package with two classes and were not told one wasn’t even available until we showed up for one and asked when the next one was scheduled for. There was zero communication that they did not have a teacher, and hadn’t for “quite some time”. We had several complaints and no decision maker was ever onsite. I sent an email stating the concerns about our stay with no reply. The cabin had no tv. Fine. But don’t tell ppl it does in the list of amenities. As well as a dvd player… but there are piles of dvds to watch in the lobby. Not if you’re in the cabin we had at least. There were nobe of the stated electronics. And there’s no cell service or reliable wifi so just plan to talk to each other, or bring a book. There will be no entertainment. The shower curtain was disgustingly moldy. It’s the jungle… okay but ew. The shower rod was rusted. Again, it’s the jungle. But ew. The place was clean up to where one can reach. The layer of dust on the lights was gross. And the lights had different white shade bulbs. A small detail? But so annoying around the room to have to see all the mismatch. This wasn’t a youth hostel! Speaking of gross lights, the bathroom lights are in the ceiling and the amount of dead bugs seen through the cover was very gross. The blinds were also frayed on the edges. Again, for the price I expect better upkeep. The outside of the building was dirty. Again, this is just a simple maintenance thing. You have these big windows to look at… spider webs? I felt like this place was a con. We paid for a class in a package that we never got nor were refunded for. We paid for the “fragrant” lei greeting. This was a string of carnations. Just disappointing for the price. The poor lady at the desk was not empowered to do anything but apologize and note “customer was not happy” to no one who seems to care as I did not receive a response to her note or my followup email after I got home. It’s a unique location, yes. But temper your expectations. When we’re back in Volcano there are other places to stay. This one is a hard pass next time for me.

This was one of our most favorite places to ever stay in Hawaii. We fell in love with this little place in the rainforest from the moment we walked down the path to our room. Meeting Carlos was a highlight of our visit. He made our visit extra special. We can’t say enough about him. He is the reason I got on here to write a review. You must meet Carlos. He will tell you where to go, where to eat, and make suggestions. We enjoyed the breakfast that was put in our refrigerator as we like to get up early and get out and explore the area. It was so refreshing to be able to get up in the morning and hang out in our provided robes and drink the Kona coffee without having to leave our room. The 100% Kona coffee took us by surprise. It was delicious. Yes, we did leave the lodge to explore the area, but we would have enjoyed hanging out at the property doing nothing. But, seeing the park and hiking was wonderful. I suggest eating dinner in the park for sure. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the rainforest from our room and loved listening to the rain as it hit the top of the roof during the night. The stay was peaceful and quiet. Spending time in a rainforest is romantic for sure. My only complaint is that we didn’t find the time to get a massage.

I felt as though I was sleeping in my own little tree hut in the jungle! Super comfortable, well appointed, great morning coffee. A truely exceptional experience! Carlos couldn't have been more helpful than he was! Woud absolutely stay here again!

A nice place, but limited check in times. Property a bit remote. . Room a bit damp,,, so had to use dehumidifier (which wasn’t on the hotel description!!!!!). Not high on the list to return to.

A truly unique place to stay. We stayed in the Hale Kilauea room, and we loved feeling like we were deep in nature, and disconnected from the world. The lodge was quiet and felt very private. Be prepared though, you really ARE disconnected. There is little-to-no cell signal on property, and their WiFi is barely operable. If we needed connection (and we did), we went into the main ***** of Volcano to find it. The room was comfortable, and reasonably well appointed. Staff was friendly and helpful. The four starts (vs. 5) are for a few issues: 1. There were no screens on the windows, so we couldn't open them to get fresh air into the room (unless we wanted to deal with mosquitoes). 2. Breakfast was convenient (delivered to our room refrigerator the day before), but wasn't very fresh by the next morning. This was especially apparent with the cut fruit. 3. We had a few maintenance issues in our room, which they responded to well once we told them.

Beautiful hotel, amazing grounds, very comfortable. We stayed for one night at this magical rainforest oasis before a day in Volcanoes park. We arrived a bit late in the day after slowly working our way up the coast, and checked in via text which was very easy. The room was toasty with the fire and bed heater and had very cozy robes. Breakfast was yummy and was already in our fridge ready to go for the next day. Wish we could have stayed longer.

The Volcano Village Lodge was fantastic -- everyone was wowed, from my kids to my elderly mom and in-laws. The lush rainforest setting was gorgeous, the rooms were comfortable, and the in-room breakfast was convenient. Perfect location for exploring Volcano National Park with the entrance just minutes away.
