Everything was great. My partner and I had only handed in the breakfast list for today at 9:30 p.m. yesterday (instead of 9 p.m. at the latest) and yet we still got a wonderful breakfast this morning, just like the two days before. Everything was great, my partner was also very satisfied.

I think I had too high expectations for this hotel as the reviews were so good. It all disappointed me and nothing made any impression. Firstly, we were given a room equipped for the disabled. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but for non-disabled people the settings in the bathroom are quite low. And some things were broken too. Balcony was shared balcony. We found the room to be on the small side.

All very nice, very new and very expensive: the room is gorgeous, comfortable beds, everything very clean and quiet. Air conditioning, shower in impeccable condition, mini fridge, balcony with chairs and table. A marvel: the only thing missing in the room is the water kettle to make a herbal tea or tea. Critical points: if you want to park you have to pay an extra €7 per day. If you want to have breakfast it's €15 each and it's not a buffet, but a choice between some types of breakfast: very good and very rich breakfast in any case (I've rarely found such good croissants), but €30 for two every morning is really many, especially for those who are used to a cappuccino and a croissant. Strategic area 15-30 minutes from Freiburg (depends on the area of the city you want to reach). Good areas of interest also reachable on foot such as paths, ancient fortresses, adventure park, zoo, mini golf, lake etc.

The room and hotel were surprisingly sleek and really well designed - nice to have air-conditioning and a balcony! On a street a block away from the main walkable part of town and a lovely river walk. One small complaint - no Kleenexes in the room! A problem with for someone with bad allergies.

The price/performance ratio is top notch. I had booked a room without air conditioning and wanted to change rooms when checking in if possible. At reception I found out that my booking had already been upgraded to a room with air conditioning. Fantastic.
The contact with the ladies from housekeeping was also very pleasant. They took very good care of my needs.
On the negative side, there is no full-length mirror in the room, probably for design reasons, and you have to like the lack of color (only gray or white). A small refrigerator would also be nice.

The hotel is in the middle of town on a side street. It was quite loud, as the hotel certainly does not have soundproof windows. On Wednesdays, not only the restaurant but also the hotel is closed. We thought that this only applied to the restaurant. We had to check in at a machine, as you would expect from low-budget hotels. I am not used to this in a Black Forest hotel. We did not have the option of ordering a second pillow, as there was no one there. There is no minibar and we could not cool our cooling pillows. Breakfast for €15 per person was a disaster. There were eggs, but cheap sausage and cheap cheese. The rolls were stale. Jam and other things were packaged. That is not modern anymore. I thought Nutella on the cake stand was bad. I am no longer a child and I did not eat Nutella. There are many bakeries in town that are definitely cheaper and have a better selection. One positive thing: it was clean.

The design hotel Kronjuwel suits the somewhat sleepy Waldkirch very well. A certain extravagance in the corridors and rooms of the hotel brings a breath of fresh air. The rooms are clean and adequate - perhaps a little small. Unfortunately, the view is also lacking - but that's why it has a special design. We have already slept 1-2 nights in the Kronjuwel several times: + great central location + nice, modern rooms (not too big) + always friendly service + good restaurant attached * breakfast possible - 3 options to choose from (I personally prefer buffer) Conclusion - if you are looking for a modern hotel for a weekend, this is a great place to stay
