This is the perfect spot for exploring Whakapapa on foot and heading up the mountain. The service is always friendly and helpful, and the stunning views and comfortable beds come at a great price. It’s super cosy and warm, making it an inviting place to stay💕 I’ve been returning every time I’m in NZ for the past 10 years and highly recommend it! It has a charming old-school vibe - yes, it’s a bit dated, but that’s part of its quaint and cute appeal.

The room was very comfortable, warm and clean. The reception was very friendly and introduced the hotel facilities to us.

A very tiny room, had our own bathroom, the food there was out of this world by the receptionist didn't seem the friendliest person

All staff were extra helpful . Their knowledge of the area and willingness to share was great. Nothing was too much trouble. The kitchen facilities were good as was access to walks in the area.

Everyone was okay except for this lady at the restaurant who was unnecessarily rude and unhelpful

Not a modern place but the atmosphere is very good and it focused on winter sports and hiking in the summer. Be aware don’t make too much noise on your room the neighbors can hear you. We had great view out of our room.

This is probably the hotel accommodation closest to the top of the mountain. From the hotel, you can see two volcanic cones and the surrounding wilderness (not every room can see it). The hotel is at the starting and end of the Taranaki Falls Trail. The weather was clear that night, and I took photos of the stars with my phone. I booked the Ruapehu room this time. The room is relatively small. The Ctrip picture shows that there is a large bed and a bunk bed, but the upper bunk is a storage type. It is usually folded against the wall. If you want to use it, you can unfold it and it feels unreliable. There is thick dust, no mattress, and poor usability. In fact, it is a large bed and a small bed. The hotel "mainly focuses on environmental protection concept" and does not provide shampoo and shower gel (there is a soap labelled shampoo, but I used it and it is far from real shampoo, it has no conditioning effect at all, and it is eye-irritating), does not provide plastic bottled water, and the room lighting is dim. There is a public laundry room, but the opening hours are limited, it seems to be 7:00-20:00. I checked in late and didn't use it. There is no one at the front desk at night. If you go late, you can open the door by yourself to collect mail. There is no food at night, you need to prepare your own. There is a kettle in the room, but no kitchen. There is a small settlement at the foot of the mountain 20 minutes drive from the hotel. There are some restaurants, but it is not clear whether they are open at night. Check-out time is 10 o'clock, very serious, housekeeping will knock on the door on time, late is not allowed, unless you pay extra $25/hour, I paid extra. This hotel is suitable for mountaineering and hiking outdoor enthusiasts who get up early and go to bed early. The main focus is on experience and naturally does not care about comfort.

The hotel is quite old, and the facilities are old. The stove heats up very slowly, the pot has no lid, two of the bedside lamps on the upper and lower bunks are broken, and the bathroom lamp is shown in the picture... The most unbearable thing is that there is no hot water when the fourth person takes a shower in a room with six people, and this happened for two consecutive days. In addition, the scenery picture in the buyer's show was taken at the wooden house at the edge. The actual wooden house is facing other houses, and there is no privacy on the balcony. The national park itself is very good, but it is recommended to live at the foot of the mountain, which is actually not far away

Rooms not very spacious, very shabby and very noisy: you can hear the neighbors coughing and more, customers coming and going at 5am ... Minimum service: if you do not explicitly ask for your room to be made up, nothing is done ... On the other hand, the restaurant and bar service is very professional and the people helpful. A very practical laundry is also available. For the location, it is about 25 minutes from the departure or arrival car parks of the Tongiro Crossing alpine trail. The hotel can offer you lunch boxes and organize a shuttle to and from the hotel. If you have your own car, you can organize a one-way shuttle that takes you from the arrival car park to the departure car park to do the hike at your own pace and not be dependent on the shuttle schedules on your arrival.

I really liked the hotel. Wonderful atmosphere of the ski resort. Great room. Hospitable hostess. Thank you. A great hiking route starts from the hotel. I was a little disappointed that at dinner we were given a table with a view of the wall.

The hotel is in a very good location with great views. If you book a good room, you can have a first-class view: snow-capped mountains and wilderness. But some rooms face the parking lot.

The hotel is in an excellent location. It is in the Whakapapa Ski Village in Tongariro National Park, close to the Mount Ruapehu Ski Resort. It is also the starting point of many hiking routes, especially Taranaki Falls and Tama Lakes. As the highest altitude backpacker hotel in New Zealand, it is economical. Applicable rooms, (public kitchen and bathroom), restaurant and bar, and hot pool (charged at S$5 per person per half hour). The staff are warm and friendly. Based on the price and location, I give it a five-star rating.

The cabin has a kitchen and is clean. There are no slippers or toothpaste or toothbrush.

If you include Tongariro National Park in your travel itinerary, it is a place worth visiting. The entrance to the trekking course is located right in front of the hotel. You can also reserve individual spa treatments for $5. The hotel itself is old but kept clean.
