The hostel is on the top of a mountain. After entering the old town, you need to climb 199 steps up the mountain. It is recommended to drive by yourself. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the city center and the train station. The garden is very beautiful. There is a restaurant that provides breakfast and other meals. The front desk is not open 24 hours. Check-in starts at 15:00 on time. Check-out time is 10:00 in the morning. Just throw the key card into the box. The cutlery and utensils in the self-service kitchen are very clean.

It's quite clean. The bathroom is clean too. But it's troublesome to wash your hair because the hair dryer is at the front desk. If you use it in the room, it will disturb others. If you use it outside the room, it's not very convenient for people of the opposite sex to stay (the two rooms are very close to each other). (It would be better if the hair dryer was installed in the bathroom) But it's close to the train station, suitable for backpackers on the road, who don't need to wash their hair if they stay for one night

The price is reasonable. It's fine when the weather is good but not bad. The location is on the mountain and there is no driving. Although it is very inconvenient to go up and down the mountain to buy things, the environment is beautiful and the hotel staff is very nice.

They are all girls who love to be clean. It’s good, the world cannot exist without girls. It’s just that it’s hard to find it when it’s dark. The train was delayed for the first time and I couldn’t find the way late at night. Google Navigation ****** me and went around to the other side. There was also a little fox with green eyes. It was the only one at night. Just the green eyes are dazzling, and the hair on the hair is standing on end. The next day I discovered that the road next to it was a cemetery. It's quite scary. It's easy to find at dawn.

I recently spent a few quiet days at YHA Whitby, and it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable hostel stays I’ve had in a long time. The hostel sits in a remarkable location beside the ruins of Whitby Abbey, high above the harbour. From the gardens and many of the windows you get wonderful views across Whitby’s rooftops, the harbour entrance, and the North Sea. It’s a setting that makes you slow down and appreciate the place. I stayed in the hostel’s newly created single room, and was told I was actually the first guest to use it. The room itself is compact but very well arranged, with a comfortable bed, hanging space and a window looking out across the town. Waking up to that view each morning was a real highlight. The staff were excellent throughout my stay. Penny, the manager, clearly knows the building and the hostel well, John on reception was friendly and welcoming All the cafe bar staff were excelent and chefs her make lovely food. The café and bar area became one of my favourite spaces. It’s a relaxed room with large windows overlooking Whitby where travellers sit with coffee, laptops or guidebooks during the day. In the evenings it becomes a pleasant social space where people passing through Whitby briefly cross paths and share stories. One morning the hostel suddenly filled with energy as school groups arrived, which was actually nice to see. It reminded me that youth hostels serve many purposes – not just for independent travellers but also for school trips and young people discovering places for the first time. Whitby itself is perfect for wandering. The harbour, narrow streets and the abbey ruins above the town make it a place that rewards slow exploration rather than rushing from attraction to attraction. I travelled with just a small backpack, and Whitby felt like the kind of town where simple travel works best. Overall, a welcoming hostel in an extraordinary location. I would happily stay here again. Tips for future visitors • The walk up to the hostel from town is steep, but the views make it worth it. • Try to get a window seat in the café overlooking Whitby. • If you’re travelling light, the hostel works perfectly as a base for exploring the abbey and harbour area.

A management and staff who care more about making money in their cafe which serves the Abbey than their accommodation guests. And if you just want a coffee be prepared to stand in line for up to 15 minutes. I've never been treated so badly and will definitely not return to this hostel again.

I was in a 10-bed female dormitory. There were only TWO lockers in the room. Surely there should be 1 locker per bed in a shared room? That is just basic. Apart from that, the shower head fitting needed fixing, another basic amenity. These things made it very poor value for money. The breakfast was good.
Response from Property: Hi there, sorry to hear you were dissappointed by the lack of lockers in the room. We are aware there is not enough and will shortly be adding to the number available in the female dorm. We didn't realise there was a problem with the shower head so will get on to that straight away, thanks for flagging it. Glad the breakfast met your expectations though

A nice little hostel conveniently located next to the abbey and within walking distance of the town centre. John on reception was very friendly and helpful, and the lounge and cafe had a lovely calm atmosphere for relaxing with a drink. Unfortunately, as the building is very old, the floors are extremely creaky and we were disturbed several times the guests walking aroubd upstairs, most notably when they returned to their room at 2AM. Otherwise, an enjoyable stay and good value for money, especially with the free entry to Whitby Abbey!
Response from Property: Thanks for the review. Sorry you were disturbed by others late arrival back to their room. We do ask that guests keep noise to a minimum after 11pm but I guess not everyone is as considerate as they perhaps could be. Will pass on your positive comments to John, he will be made up.
