The Westgate

The hotel was good. It has great location, fair facilities.

The attention to detail in the room I stayed in was excellent (clean, spacious, well-equipped, tasteful in design..) and I had a very comfortable stay indeed. It felt luxurious and was very good value for money. Everything is good quality and carefully chosen, from the soaps and shampoos in the dispensers (very 'English', a nice touch), to the linens and the arrangement of coffees and teas on the side table. The welcome I received from the young lady working behind the bar was exceptionally good and makes this hotel stand out for me as one I would want to use again. I had arrived well before check-in time, but was able to access my room early, which helped because I had heavy bags with me. Any noise I heard was not from the road, but from the building being a very old one, with creaky floorboards and narrow stairways and corridors. It wasn't a major issue and certainly wouldn't put me off from staying there again (it was a Friday night, after all, and there was an expectation that there would be quite a lot of coming and going outside the door, which was located near the rear exit). The express check in and check out made things very convenient for me, as I had to leave early next morning before staff arrived. Altogether: highly recommended!

Having lived in Winchester for many years and walked past this Pub, went in tonight, why haven’t we been in here before…….. friendly staff and manager, very clean , good local atmosphere and wine recommendations, menu looked good will eat next time.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful! The bed is so comfortable! A really fun experience.

Beautiful old property and great staff / service but one night is enough! Absolutely tiny rooms and bathrooms - nowhere to get ready / do makeup etc Perfect for one night city break though !

When i booked this pub for a stay, on the website it stated Breakfast included which I paid, On arrival I received a piece of paper with information on it and it said no breakfast. Breakfast was included in the price, waiting for a refund. The room was freezing, the heating was on full, me and my partner was freezing at night. The shower was dirty, the toilet was dirty. I would not recommend this place.

What a lovely gem! Surprisingly quiet once in the room, despite a busy bar. The room felt sumptuous, it was clean and comfortable with all the expected extras (hot drink making facilities, hairdryer etc) Being older guests we managed the stairs reasonably well but it may not suit those with limited mobility, this is due to the historic nature of the building. Breakfast was not offered at the time we stayed but we found plenty of options nearby. We dined in the pub/inn and found that a very good call, although it is a popular place so noise was a slight issue ( very difficult to hold a conversation) but we accepted that as part of the experience. All in all a positive experience and we would return
