"Lainston House is a beautifully restored period property in a picturesque part of the UK. It is in a convenient location for accessing Winchester. Please note: the accommodation on the two upper floors are only accessible by stairs. There is no lift anywhere in the building. This hotel is not suitable for people with mobility challenges due to inaccessible upper rooms, steps everywhere and uneven surfaces outside. The staff we met were friendly, welcoming and very obliging, especially the reception staff who seamlessly accommodated our needs. Our first floor luxe view room was upgraded, at extra cost, to the ground floor Garden Suite as, due to acute mobility issues, I could not manage the stairs. The suite was delightful, spacious and comfortable. However, the bed was hard making for poor sleep. Complimentary tea, coffee, water and bathroom toiletries were appreciated. No air conditioning in the suite, but there was outdoor access, down steps, to a private patio area and the 500 year old oak tree. This hotel is advertised as 5 star due in part to the gourmet dining offered. Our experience was that of 5 star accommodation with 3 star dining. Room service was a pitiful offering of snack food which consisted of sandwiches. Surprisingly, none of the restaurant meals were available as room service. The Avenue restaurant is closed on a Monday and Tuesday (in high season). We actually had to leave the hotel and find somewhere local to eat. Breakfast was very disappointing with tepid, bland eggs benedict and a full english that was partially inedible due to overuse of the heat lamp. Overall, this hotel is gorgeous to look at but is poor value for money and certainly did not meet our dining expectations. We would advise discerning travellers to consider other places as, disapointingly, this hotel does not deliver on a 5 star experience."

"I have just come back from a one night stay here. We stayed here so we could visit Thruxton which is only a 15 minute drive sway from the track. The rooms were really clean, and we were provided with two fans to help call the room down with this hot heat. The beds were clean and comfy. Both the staff on reception were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very quiet and we couldn't hear any road noise despite the hotel being by the road. ( even with the windows open!) We were provided with all the amenities that we needed, tea, coffee, clean and fresh towels. The breakfast to go boxes were fantastic and filled us all up and came with everything we needed for breakfast. No complaints from me & I completely recommend. Thank you for a lovely stay!"
