On such a hot day, there is no air-conditioning on the 4th floor. I vaguely feel that there is discrimination in the room booked through Ctrip. The next day we negotiated to change to the 6th floor.

The service attitude is first-class, there are also Chinese translations, the delicious taste is good, and the mushrooms are good. But the room is a bit old and not cost-effective.

Ryokan Biyunoyado I enjoyed staying this traditional ryokan with onsen very much. Gorgeous place! Our lovely double tatami room had the essence of the Japan design: fresh smell of straw from the tatami mat as you step into the room, low table, clean lines. In addition to the main bedroom there were small but separate toilet, tub and sitting rooms, and we enjoyed stepping out to our balcony, over-looking over the town below. The onsen experience was very special. We wore the yukata and shoes left for us in our room and went there and back to the gender segregated pools (2 in, 1 out), very comfortable. I especially enjoyed the black rock against my back. The combination of hot water soak followed by huge dinner after full day results in good sleep.

This was our third stay at Biyunoyado. We brought friends with us this time and they enjoyed the visit so much! Every time we stay here, it is a new experience. Yuki & Masao are the most wonderful hosts. They treated us like we were the most important guests in the building! In the evening, we experienced a Geisha event downstairs in the common area followed by a mini-reception with the other guests staying at the property. There was a lot of mingling and chatting, it was a very enjoyable one-of a kind experience. The staff were very attentive to our needs while we enjoyed the evening. As always, the Kaiseki meals were beautifully presented, delicious and filling. The dining spaces are quiet with full views of the surrounding town. Our guest room had a private Onsen in the room. We used it well into the night because it was very peaceful and quiet in the area. There is a shuttle to and from Yudanaka station, but I would recommend to take the 10 minute walk from the station to the property. The town is very peaceful and picturesque with the mountains in the backdrop. Biyunoyado is an extremely good place to stay if you wish to fully detach from the busy world. John C. Amazing ryokan experience. A delicious Kaiseki culinary adventure with meals that incorporate the region’s freshest ingredients. Each course is artistically presented, setting the anticipation of the scrumptious dishes before me. Fully satisfied, a light dessert is served on the 2nd floor lounge/bar. A selection of coffees/teas are available; or a nice bourbon and soda to sip and enjoy the view. I enjoy relaxing in the onsen at the end of the day…my skin feels so smooth. Mahalo to the Biyunoyado staff. All very helpful and friendly.

Amazing experience in Japan! I have been flying to Japan as airline staff for many years. Our experience in this Ryokan was exceptional. The food was the highest quality, the design and art of the hotel and the service was over and above! Being able to experience the Snow Monkeys in the hot springs early in the morning before the crowds was such an intimate and incredible event for me. I have pictures that are a once in a lifetime capture. Next we were abe to do spring skiing at the highest altitude in Japan! Coming back after a fun day to the cozy onsen experience and wonderful meal was a great comfort. There is also a beautiful bar and lounge for dessert or happy hour on the lobby level. You can watch the ski and Snow Monkey videos on the big screen.I can’t wait to return to this Inn again!

Perfect. Everything was well catered and thought out, attention to detail was amazing. Perfect for visiting an overnight stay to see the snow monkeys. We stayed there for a week, exploring the area and skiing in Shiga Kogan. Excited they will soon offer have car rentals and shuttles to the mountain. Yuki the owner is an amazing host, thank you to her and the team for going above and beyond. Hope to be back soon!

I wouldn't stay here again because the walls are so thin. We heard loud noises from the room next door. They were not foreigners, they were speaking Japanese. We had to call the front desk twice, however they did quiet down after the 2nd call. The onsen is not that great because you just stare at a wall and also on one side you go outside and walk down a steep stair case. Seems like a lot of young people stay here. Pay the extra $100 and stay somewhere else if you want to have a more relaxing and quiet stay. Rooms are old and out dated. The toilet room smelled bad. However, the food was pretty good . . .actually better than I expected for the hotel. Also, they prepared the most appropriate kids's meals. Location is a 8 min. walk down one street to the Yudanaka station, however they will pick you up if you have a lot of luggage and I think they also have a shuttle bus you can take to the monkey park.

5 stars experience at this onsen hotel . #Lobby - puffed with nice candle aroma smell which makes the ambience pleasant. #Restaurant - food are excellent and carefully curated in Japanese style #Rooms - spacious and clean . Detailed decoration and have small snacks to welcome guests #Onsen - told to have healing power as they are using good quality onsen water. Met Ms Yuki-san . She is very approachable and well informed on the local knowledge to share with guests to make our hotel stay experience very memorable . It worth the stay and I will be make for sure . Keep up the good works !

I stayed over at Ryokan Biyunoyado for two nights. During that time, I was pampered with excellent hospitality provided by the ryokan. I took the Hokuriku Shinkansen to travel from Tokyo Station to Nagano Station (1.5 hour) and then changed to Nagano-Dentetsu Line (~45 minutes) to get to Yudakanda Station. Prior to arriving to the onsen, I contacted the hotel for a pick up service from Yudanaka Station as it would be somewhat difficult to carry a big suitcase up a hill to the ryokan. Although the distance between the station and the ryokan is approximately 10 minutes on foot, having the shuttle service was definitely a perk. As I arrived at Biyu, the staff welcomed us outside the hotel and walked me and the other guests who shared the shuttle together, we had a seat at the cafe area where we got checked in. We were provided an oshibori to freshen up, and the staff began to introduce everything about the facility - the hotspring, bath location, snow monkey park information as well as meal times. I was assigned a room on the 6th floor and upon entering the room, it instantly gave me a moment of zen and relaxation -- a vibe I needed after a long year of hard work. The room was spacious, with lots of room to put your stuff at. The room also does have its own bath (where you would not use since there is the big bath!) and private toilet and sink. The view I had was overlooking to the west and the mountains. The hotspring/bath is separated by gender and they would get swapped during the midnight hours when a brief cleaning occurred. Each side has had its own pros and cons while both featured an outdoor bath and one had two indoor baths along with shower, grooming facility. It has been very relaxing especially on the nights where the black sky sprinkled a few snow flakes, the entire experience became a scene in a dream. The meals were, hands down, 10 out of 10 - definitely one of the best kaiseki meals I have had in different ryokans across Japan. While I stayed there for two nights and partook four separate meals (2 dinners, 2 breakfasts) - there was nothing repeated on any of those meals. I do recommend that if you have certain food allergies, you do advise the ryokan ahead of time so they can prepare you food that you can enjoy. As you enjoy your meals, you can order any beverages you like from the menu. This area features a lot of snow sport activities along with the Shibu onsen district where there are multiple public onsens in an area where you can immerse yourself into - all within walking distance. The Snow Monkey Park is approximately 15 minutes by the hotel shuttle on the local roads. As I returned back from the Park, it took me around 45 minutes to get back to the hotel. The ryokan does provide you a local map where it points out where you can go for food and a walk; those walks are perfect in regular tennis/walking shoes. A few of my friends asked if I would recommend them to come over - I would definitely say YES - it is worth the

We stayed in a Western Room which was spacious and clean. The hotel staff were kind and helpful. We were treated to an elaborate traditional Japanese dinner one evening. The private rooftop Olsen, booked separately, was a unique experience, perhaps best on a clear evening. We liked going for an onsen before breakfast and skiing. Well located, a short walk from restaurants and Shibu Onsen Town. The owner/manager was very helpful when we asked for help with changing some travel arrangements. We would definitely stay there again.

Background information - Asian American and White American - one who is learning conversational Japanese for work-related travel. Also caveat - one of us has a personal/professional connection to the owner's wife. We spent 7 days and 7 nights at this ryokan, which is a traditional Japanese inn. This inn has both Western and traditional Japanese rooms. The latter have tatami mats and futon mattresses that the staff put away and put together for us each day of our stay. Highlights of our stay: the kaiseki (multi-course) breakfasts and dinners - traditional style, the rooftop private onsen (two of them available, reservations required, added fee), basement gender-segregated public onsens, proximity/closeness to the ski slopes (30 minutes by car, 1 hour by bus), the welcome and hospitality of hotel staff and owners, closeness to a train station (about 10 minutes walking), nearby laundromat (6 minutes walking), provision of yukata for onsen wear but also possible for meal wear, and transportation to the nearby snow monkey park. What's great about this area is the focus on local, so the area is not welcome to foreign investors like in other ski areas. Possible downsides: The rooms and bathrooms may be a little dated but still functional. Pro tips: Use the luggage delivery service (like Yamamoto - black cat) to make your travel easier. Recommended for ski or snowboard bags and large luggage. We plan to repeat our ski/snowboard trip in a couple of years!
