The Sidings

Fantastic place for anyone who loves trains. I am a railway enthusiast so this is my dream place to stay. The Flying Scotsman room with its own private viewing balcony was ideal for us and we enjoyed watching and listening to trains all night. We found the room clean and fresh when we arrived and it was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and the evening meal delicious. We loved the railway carriage dining room. Unfortunately there is just one negative which is why I have rated it 4 star instead of 5. The breakfast was very disappointing. It arrived half an hour late, was cold and mean. I woukd have been embarrassed serving it to my family, never mind a guest. There was no cereal on offer and no top ups of our tea or coffee were offered. It wouldn't put us off coming again as the location, views and character more than made up for it but I would hesitate before recommending it to my friends, especially the non rail enthusiasts. Please sort out the breakfasts and it will be perfect.

We had a meal in the restaurant. We chose to eat in the carriage which was a lovely experience. The food was first class as was the friendly and efficient service. Loved it! Thank you 😊 If we visit this area again from Cornwall, we will try and stay here as well as eat here.

Lovely lovely place and food, but they never replied to emails prior to our visit. I had queries but they never replied. Common courtesy I would have thought. If you have an email address, reply. That is how we work nowadays. Not everyone has time to phone. Please, quicker communication.

Highly recommend!!! The most perfect trip, the staff are brilliant, nothing is to much trouble for any of them. The food is amazing and the hotel is spotless. Will definitely be returning on a regular basis. Cannot fault anything about here

Decided on a nights stay as the value for money compared to just a basic hotel was far better and it didn’t disappoint. We stayed in a carriage compartment that overlooked the railway line and you get a veriety of trains passing ever few minutes the staff are welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere is really relaxed. We sat out on the viewing area and looked across the countryside while been entertained by the trains. We had an evening meal in the dining carriage which was really nice and nostalgic. The bar area is full of railway memorabilia and the rooms are quirky but with a comfy bed a nice hot shower and you are sleeping in a train carriage. Loved it and will stay again.

Fabulous and unique experience. If you like Greek Cypriot food you can’t go wrong here. Food was amazing and staff very friendly. We went as a family and both adult and kids food options are very good. Would definitely recommend and will be returning again very soon.

We visited the Sidings restaurant as a family for Sunday lunch. We were shown to our seats by a very pleasant young man who explained the different menus. He took our drinks order and food order and everything was good. The bread and oil/balsamic were lovely and the garlic mushrooms were very tasty. The Sunday dinner was ok and the other meals were very good but what let it down was finding a hair in one of the meals towards the end. We told the server when he collected the plates and he apologised and said he would alter the bill. Fair enough we didn’t want to make a fuss in front of the other guests. Now what let this visit down was the service at the end when we wanted to pay our bill, to the extent that a queue had formed at the desk and not a single person was about after waiting a good 10 minutes we had to go to the kitchen to find a member of staff to come and deal with the waiting customers. Very disappointing indeed.

This was bought as a gift. A warm welcome, cosy lounge area and bar. The room, wow! Dirty, shabby and just not pleasant. Smell fusty, cobwebs everywhere, the carpet has seen better days and everything just felt dusty and dirty. Two pillows, one plush and one flat as a pancake. Dirty cup marks left, patched painting. Did not enjoy my stay one bit. Food mediocre, not the best Greek. The breakfast was rubbish, cheap sausage! Wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend. However if you like your trains you might like it more.

Try this place, the Sidings is excellent. The food is first class, the restaurant in the railway carriages is brilliant and the staff are lovely and friendly. An excellent meal, especially the nougat’s. Will definitely go again when we visit York.
