"This hotel, a former monastery, has a lot of authentic York character. It's right by the river, and the view from the window gives off a very medieval vibe. It's about a twenty-minute walk from the train station, and Shambles and the Minster are both within easy walking distance. The heating in the hotel was very good and warm, and the traditional English breakfast was quite nice. The only downside was a rather unpleasant check-in experience. The elderly British lady at the front desk was incredibly rigid, and I felt there was a hint of discrimination. We had two breakfasts included, but she insisted that children couldn't eat, even though there were only two of us. It's really hard to understand the mindset of some older British people. However, the breakfast restaurant manager was lovely and kept asking if I wanted to bring anything for my husband, even offering an extra children's meal when I explained it was just the two of us. Thankfully, Trip.com resolved the issue quickly, smoothing over the unpleasantness so it didn't impact our trip. Overall, I think the hotel is good, but that elderly British person at the front desk really needs to adjust her attitude!"

"We had a fantastic stay at this hotel! The front desk staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, making check-in a breeze and offering great recommendations. We loved the convenient on-site laundry facilities, which came in handy during our trip. The location is perfect – just a short walk from the river, with stunning views that made our evenings truly memorable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for comfort and scenic beauty!"

"Get off the train at York and literally straight into this fab hotel. A step back in time with beautiful lounges to eat and drink in. Stunning gardens. Beautiful feel of Xmas with stunning trees and decorations. The New Year's Eve main meal was lovely, but would give the starter a miss, valute not for us. More plus's than negative's. Garden view room was cold with old sash windows, but comfy bed and clean room. Lovely view"

"Nice and easy for access into town. The room was great for the kids. The bed wasn’t particularly comfortable, but I’m used to a firmer mattress - if you don’t mind soft you’ll be fine. Only issue with the hotel was the noise. People walking through the corridors at 2.30am shouting. I guess that’s the individuals not the hotel itself though. Breakfast was good, would stay again GVFM :)"

"The hotel's location is a bit far from the city center, but it's very quiet and the surroundings are pleasant. However, the room I booked via Ctrip was, once again, road-facing, which wasn't ideal. It feels like a common issue when booking through that platform! The area around the hotel is residential, making it very comfortable."

"I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton York for a short visit and, while the location was reasonably convenient, the overall experience fell short of expectations for a Hilton-branded hotel. I was upgraded to a room located across the car park from the main building, accessed via stairs and without central heating. Instead, the room relied on standing portable heaters, which wasn’t ideal — especially given the wet weather and the need to walk outside to reach the room. The room itself felt quite tired and dated, with noticeably creaky floorboards both inside the room and from neighbouring rooms, which made it hard to fully relax. The location is decent enough, but if you’re travelling by public transport there are better areas of York to stay in that offer easier access and a nicer overall setting. I didn’t try the breakfast, as there are plenty of good local options nearby, which I enjoyed instead, so I don’t feel I missed out. One small disappointment was that coffee wasn’t available outside of breakfast hours. Overall, with so many good accommodation options in York, I’m not likely to stay here again."

"We had the most gorgeous stay at No.1 Guest House - if there wasn’t so much to see and do in York we would have happily just stayed in and enjoyed the hotel all weekend. The staff were amazing, especially Ellie, who made us feel so welcome and couldn’t do enough for us. We loved just sitting in the bar area with a cocktail (the rosy margarita was amazing) and looking at all the art and the cute steam train. The hotel is sooo cosy and perfect for this time of year. We will definitely be back!"
