Had a great stay in this busy, friendly pub. Staff were great, the pie was amazing and the bed was really comfy. The only downside was that you could hear the neighbours conversation when they were in the bathroom but they could have just been very loud!

Great history to the building - with Guy Fawkes himself baptised at the small church opposite. A place to sit and sup on your own, paired up in larger groups - catered for with a range of seating areas (can you find the view of the park?) Look along this street for the torch extinguishers beside the doorways. Enjoy!

Amazing room, comfy bed and great location. If you want an early night this might not be the place for you due to the noise from the pub itself but if you will be out late anyway it's perfect.

My son and I went for a meal today (12/04/24) we entered and sat at a table. A member of the bar staff, a male with a beard, approached us and said Did you come in and sit yourselves down? “ We confirmed that we did as we had done this on a previous visit. He asked us to move because the table had been booked. We moved to another table and he asked us to move again to a smaller table in order to maximise room! We decided not to order food because of his attitude. However 10 mins later two women entered the dining area and asked if they could sit at a four person table, obviously hadn’t booked, and the female member of staff obliged! Their loss as we were going to order two meals! We won’t visit again.😡

One of the worst hotels we have stayed in! No heating or shower that was usable ( water was scalding) . Bed squeaked so much we hardly slept. We were given a tiny portable loud heater. Windows in our bathroom falling apart and sticky taped together ! We booked for three nights but cut our losses and left. We found a lovely hotel about 100 meters away for a cheaper price. Dispute this the bar and service staff were very nice and tried to help as much as they could.

Awful service and drinks ridiculously over-priced (£14.50 for a pint of lager and a medium wine?) Hadn`t visited since lock down as a known tourist trap - however thought we would give it a chance as looked relatively quiet for a Saturday evening. Found a table with lovely view of the Minster - the redeeming feature of our visit. Upon approaching the bar, 2 members of staff walked past without acknowledgement - twice caught the eye of 1 of the 3 the bar staff cleaning glasses, who continued to not serve or highlight to 1 of her colleagues that there were now 3 people waiting to be served at the bar. A 4th member of staff (carrying a bin bag - so obviously unable to serve) eventually asked staff members to serve the waiting. service was at best grumpy and grudging. To be fair perhaps we should have excepted this, as was the same on last visit.

My husband and I had a brilliant three night stay. The staff were wonderful throughout. The room was very quirky and comfortable and nice and clean. Breakfast each day was filling and plentiful and the man who served us each morning was attentive, professional and informative. We met the resident Tour Guide Dave Haw who treated us to over an hours tour of York. Highly recommended. We will be back.

Lovely experience, the location of the pub is central and opposite The Minster. Very pretty pub, attentive staff. Food and service amazing. Could not fault anything. The crème brûlée was the best we have ever had ..Will definitely return.
