Avondale Guest House

I had a wonderful stay with Carole this weekend !! Lovely room and amazing breakfasts!! Carole was there if I needed her !! Would definitely recommend this lovely hotel in York !!! Easy to get to the centre and plenty of taxis for getting around

The house is lovely in a nice residential area, 10 minutes walk from downtown. The room were clean and furnished with great taste with everything you need for a pleasant stay. Carole is a delightful host and so is her lady Wendy. And both also very good cooks. Breakfast is amazing: you can choose six different cooked breakfast and each of them is enjoyable. If you like, try also the Whisky Pudding. I will certainly return when I am in York again.

My second stay at Avondale, this time for five nights. Everything perfect just as the first time. Lovely room, comfy bed and pillows, great breakfasts with all the choices you could want. Avondale is clean and fresh and always looks freshly decorated. Your guaranteed a warm Yorkshire welcome from Carole and Wendy.

We stayed here for a few nights for a long weekend. The guesthouse was easy to find and accommodation with Carol was good and responsive. Upon arrival Carol gave us a wee guide and showed us a few key points on the map. Breakfast was pre-ordered the night before. The breakfast was very generous with 6 different 'main' options along with cereals, porridge, yogurts and toast and conserves. The marmalade and cider was delicous and we purchased our own jar from the greengrocers on the corner. The room was perfect, room serviced every day and tea and coffee and biscuits supplies restocked. The room had a few fresh flowers too which was a lovely personal touch. I'd recommend the guesthouse. The lady serving breakfast was Wendy and she was a lovely, chatty lady who obviously took pride in her job and the Agondale. Congratulations to Carol and Wendy for making our stay to York perfect and good luck with the future plans.

What a wonderful place to stay. This is the best guest house we have ever stayed in. Carole and Wendy are so friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the local area. From the time we arrived to the time we left, they could not have done any more. The house is lovely about a 5 minute walk to the city wall. A great choice of breakfasts, and you must try the whisky porridge it is amazing.

An amazing stay at a lovely place. You will not find a better place to stay in the beautiful city of York. Do not hesitate to book and enjoy the lovely rooms and amazing breakfast. Excellent breakfast, clean, tidy and cosy room. Excellent location close to city centre and accessible on foot from train station and central area. Very good value for money would highly recommend. Hard to find charming little bed and breakfasts these days, this is certainly one of them.

I've traveled in GB for 20 of the last 25 years with most stays in a guest house rather than a large hotel. Carol and Wendy at Avondale Guest House reign supreme among all such proprietors. Rooms are lovely and very clean. Amenities are top shelf and the included breakfast is truly exceptional. A speciality of the house is organic oat porridge made with some whisky. No it's not booze for breakfast but it is the single best hot cereal I have ever eaten in my life. It's a lovely start up before a full English or before any of the other lovely breakfast plates offered. Carol and Wendy themselves are simply charming and gracious. Make your way here soon before they retire because a stay here is truly a delight in all aspects. If I could give them 6 out of 6 stars I would. An absolutely brilliant guest house, it's only a short walk from the city centre and all the attractions in York.

What a lovely place, located close to the main town. Clean and very well looked after. Breakfast was really good, with a good choice of food. I love these places where the owners take a huge amount of pride in what they provide their customers. We would and hopefully will go back. Thank you Carol.
