This hot spring hotel is the most satisfying one I have stayed in. Check-in is at 3 pm. There is no need to go early. Even if you arrive early, you will not be checked in. Call ahead to reserve free pick-up service. Dinner and breakfast were sumptuous.

A detached room with an open-air bath and a deck. It was very quiet and soothing.
Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Staff were nice too. I have to move to the main building to go eat, so it might be a bit difficult on rainy days.

This is not your typical ryokan. The rooms are big with a good sitting area.. The soaking tub and shower had so many mechanisms that it takes a while to figure out all the controls. Every room has a great view of Yufu mountain and the valley. Some of the rooms are free standing units. Service is great and the included dinner is outstanding. It is a typical Japanese kaiseki dinner with numerous courses. Breakfast is entirely Japanese style, and they serve rice, miso soup and fish. Put up with it if your taste is 100% western. You can have a nice cup of coffee or juice near the lobby when you finish your breakfast. Though they will not serve you coffee with the breakfast. Overall, you will be overjoyed with this place.
