"The environment here is great. Although it's a bit far, they offer shuttle service, so it's not a big issue. However, I was quite concerned about the cleanliness of the hot spring. It seemed that whenever I moved, a lot of black, white, and gray fibrous material would float up from the bottom of the pool. I even saw distinct small white feathers, possibly from birds? I understand that being in the mountains might lead to some influence from plants and animals, but there was clearly a lot settled at the bottom, suggesting it hasn't been thoroughly cleaned for a while. Many of the restaurant staff were from India or Pakistan, and most of the other guests I encountered were foreigners. The price isn't expensive, and the room is large, but the facilities are a bit old. The room's cleanliness was actually decent, it just felt a bit dated."

"Baien is truly the best. The private open-air bath and the large public bath are both excellent. (Note: Be sure to confirm the private open-air bath when booking your ryokan stay.) The ryokan is spacious, so walks around the property are lovely. Both breakfast and dinner (kaiseki) are also superb. However, there's no entertainment nearby, so if your sole purpose is to enjoy the hot springs, you definitely won't regret it. I'd love to visit again in winter."

"The room was spacious and came with a private onsen. Perched halfway up the mountain, the views were beautiful. If you don't have a car, you can book the shuttle, but be aware that the pick-up times are infrequent. The staff were friendly. Dinner was just okay, but since it was inconvenient to go back to the city, we ended up eating almost all our meals there as part of a half-board package."

"Super clean property. Wheels of our luggage gets a wipe down and we need to change to slippers before entering the property. No outside shoes into the property. The host and owners are a lovely and super friendly couple. Two onsen pools in the inn where the host will schedule for guests to enjoy privately. Within 10 minutes walk to Kinrin lake and a short walk to Yufuin Floral Village. Will definitely consider staying here again next time."

"This beautiful Ryokan is over 100 years old with deep heritage. I like that it stay as it is as if time stood still. So full of character. I was drawn to the onsens featuring beautiful outdoor views. You'll get to enjoy indoor and outdoor onsens here.. You get to try different types of onsens as they switch around. The highlight was the mountain view, the tranquility that some accommodation lacks due to the amount of guests. Here, you see mostly adults, hence irs ideal for people looking for a quieter retreat. Finally I was absolutely blown away by the wagyu beef at each dinner buffet. The Oita beef was of good quality and there was crab legs and so many variety of seafood and Oita specialty. Breakfast did not disappoint. Love the Yufuin milk and the pudding. Service staff was very attentive too. Ideally for non driving travellers. A short walk to the station and kinrin river."

"Very good, excellent service, I lost my wallet and they found it for me. The bath was very comfortable, but it was a pity that private baths could not be booked. The public bath was very beautiful and the environment was quite good."

"Our stay at Yufuin ”Tano-kura” was absolutely flawless. First off, the service was truly top-notch. Our dedicated staff member (SIC) was incredibly professional and attentive, taking exceptional care of us throughout our visit. What really put us at ease was their meticulous attention to confirming food allergies, which allowed us to fully enjoy the exquisite and delicious cuisine without any worries. Every interaction, from the introduction to the hotel facilities to the meal service in our room, was handled with utmost politeness and respect. The environment was impeccably clean and tidy, making for a wonderfully comfortable stay. This trip truly allowed us to relax completely; we left feeling fully recharged and revitalized. "It wasn't an expensive ryokan, so I didn't expect much, but I was satisfied and had a good rest. It took about 5 minutes to walk from the station, but it was easy to find because you just have to go straight down, and the room was also satisfactory. I tried the kotatsu for the first time, and the heating was really warm. I used the hot springs, the most popular one in the evening, and the small indoor hot spring in the morning. The most popular one is always crowded and is closed during dinner time, but I was able to go in after eating dinner and waiting for less than an hour on the chair in front of me. They set a dinner time, but I was at 6:30, and it seems to be open from 6, but it seems like the first person who had dinner around 7:20 was the one who used it. I think it's about 30 to 50 minutes per time slot, so you can wait. I didn't eat breakfast because I slept in late."

"About 10 to 15 mins walk from the train station. Very quite and serene environment. From hotel to walk to the lake 20 mins, floral village etc you can easily spends hours to enjoy the scenery, lunch and shopping streets. Big and spacious onsen, the outdoor one is nice. The view from onsen and room face Mt Yufu...very relaxing and nice breakfast."

"The hotel is small, but located in a very picturesque location! The staff was very friendly and attentive. The room is spacious, with an outdoor onsen and two baths at your disposal – they become private when in use, so you won't be disturbed. Near the hotel is a wonderful bakery called Grand'ma and a coffee shop called Grand'pa – I recommend checking them out."
