"When reversing in Beijing, you need to stay overnight for the transition. We arrived at nearly 11pm and there was still someone at the front desk. The room was clean, but too small. It was difficult to turn over in the bed with a child. There was no place to eat breakfast nearby. It took 12 or 13 minutes to walk to find a breakfast shop. Finally, we went to the West Station to eat."

GGuest UserThe room is clean and tidy, the location is good, it is convenient to go anywhere, the proprietress is also very friendly, the children get up late, and it is already late for breakfast, but she still enthusiastically prepares breakfast for us. And the kimchi for breakfast is also very delicious. The family lives very comfortably, and will choose this homestay again in the future.

AAnonymous UserI booked the place after seeing good reviews from XHS and on this site. We were met with not the lady boss on day of arrival but a grouchy man with curt instructions. And no assistance was given to help us carry our luggage to the 3rd floor. Lucky, it was a single luggage. So both my sis and I were able to do it on our own. The room itself is clean but very basic with no place to hang our clothes though hangars are provided. As we were only staying for one night, it was ok. Towels are provided with shower gel and shampoo. The hotel location is good/central as it is near the Sun Moon Plaza. Did not get to see the drone show as there were thunderstorms that night. We were glad when we met the lady boss the next morning. Very warm and friendly personality. She also helped us with arranging our luggage pickup by the service centre. Breakfast was mainly Asian with also bread, porridge and the small dishes cooked on order by the lady boss were tasty. The homemade soya milk was great too. Overall, i think the hotels in Gubei Watertown are overpriced with such basic room amenities. I paid nearly the same rate for a 5star hotel in Beijing with much bigger room with better room facilities/service. Suggest to go for day trip if possible. But if you want to go for overnight stay and climb Simatai the next day, suggest to stay inside the scenic area so you pay half the price and enjoy flexibility to move within the scenic area anytime.

SSurajRA beautiful Chinese courtyard-style house with a charming rose garden, this stay was truly unforgettable. Our hosts, May and David, went above and beyond to make our visit to the Great Wall and our time in China as perfect as possible. They booked our entry tickets, guided us through the process at the ticket booth, and shared invaluable tips on using Chinese apps, something that was especially helpful since this was our very first hotel in China. May’s homemade rose tea and the delicious home-cooked meals prepared by David’s father were full of flavor and warmth. From the moment we booked about a month in advance, May stayed in contact with us, offering advice and assistance with apps and logistics. She and David also arranged a cab for us to the Water Great Wall and back to our hotel in the city, making everything seamless. More than just wonderful hosts, they have become good friends. We still keep in touch, and even now while we are in Guangzhou, they continue offering advice whenever we need it. For anyone new to China, this is not just the best place to stay, it’s also a connection to kind-hearted people who make your journey truly special.

DdabaituThis inn is located in the ancient town, and its location is excellent, right by Wangjing Street. It's quiet despite being in a bustling area, and the room is very comfortable. There's a tatami mat by the window for scenic views. It's convenient to walk everywhere from here, and you can also go hike the Gubeikou Great Wall. There are also many local snacks nearby.

GGuest UserLocation : near Simatai entrance and fountain show but far from entrance. However, you can take shuttle car or walk to there. Room : they have all facilties including heater. but they dont have slipper in the room. Breakfast : They have some buffet dish/toast plus made to order to choose from such as eggs/bacon/sausages/wanton/noodle. So breakfast is enough and OK Staff : Helpful and friendly but we have to communicate via translator. Room photos are same as shown in the website. Overall is a good stay.

GGuest UserHands down, this is the best guesthouse for visiting the Badaling Great Wall. We took a quick taxi ride right to the scenic area entrance. We'd never stayed in a traditional *siheyuan* (quadrangle courtyard) before, and the kids absolutely loved it, especially with all the beautiful flowers, plants, and fish. The owner was also incredibly welcoming and gave us excellent advice on the most convenient way to get to the Great Wall.

GGuest UserIt was a little hard to find for someone who doesn't read Chinese characters well. I don't think the staff speaks English, I at least spoke Mandarin to them. But they were super friendly. Room was nice for the price. The breakfast was a little underwhelming but you can get freshly made egg dishes which is a plus. And eating next to the river was also a very pleasant experience (just make sure you bring or ask for bug spray).

GGuest UserGood base for climbing the Simatai Great Wall - easy walk over to the trailhead in the morning. Also smack in the middle of the attractions, with short walks to the fountain show, drone show, and a boat ride pier. The place is themed as a traditional style guesthouse, and so the decor and layout may seem a little dated and rustic - but that might be part of the charm depending on how you look at it. They have their own in-house coffeehouse and restaurant, but there are also a lot of other food options around the vicinity depending on how far you're willing to walk. It's a little far from the town entrance, but the free luggage forwarding service will take your luggage straight to the premises for you. That said, because the rooms are spread around a fairly large compound, you may still need to carry your luggage a short walk - possibly including a bit of stairs - between the reception area and your room. We also got a discount ticket for hot springs - a facility of which is also nearby.
