A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City.

This is a cosy hotel converted from a scholar’s academy. It really feels like you’ve gone back in time or stepped onto a Chinese drama set. The staff are wonderful, very friendly, helpful and kind, explaining how to navigate their little town and helping us book tickets to a show. When my payment app couldn’t work upon check in, they let us pay later in the day with a credit card. The breakfast is tasty and fills the tummy, and you can ask for refills. I had the best sleep here, as it’s set on a quiet street, a little off the main drag and the rooms were clean and spacious, with comfortable beds, everything worked and there was attention to details like a snack basket and bottled water in the fridge. And the car was there to pick us up from Pingyao Gu Cheng station and also to send us back to the station. It was a lovely stay.

Very nice hotel inside the walls of the Ancient City. Owners didn't speak English but they managed to communicate with translator tools, they picked me and take me back to train station and provided me with good advise on places to visit. Room was warm and clean and decoration was really nice. Thanks so much

The accommodation is absolutely beautiful, with very nice details. They also left us some sweets and tea as a welcome gift, and every day they gave us a large bottle of water. The only thing I didn’t like is that during the day people come to take photos at the property, and there is quite a lot of noise until almost 10pm. Sometimes it can be annoying to hear people taking photos right outside your room. Apart from that, the accommodation is great.

Spent a most enjoyable 5-day stay here. The owners are really nice -- they not only surprised us with a welcome fruit platter but also sent another one on another day. When we had to wake up super early on one of the days, they actually cooked 2 hard boil eggs for us to pack for breakfast (despite us saying no the night before as we didn't wish to trouble them). The husband also sent us via his car to a nearby pick-up point that we had to assemble at 5.40am. This is a very nicely done up place, well-maintained and very clean too. Good quality toiletries provided, comfortable bed, bathroom with a shower cubicle, water that is hot enough, even a toilet bowl. Great location -- there're rows of different types of shops nearby but it's still surprisingly quiet despite our room facing the road with a balcony, there're 2 cafes nearby, a nearby eatery that sells the most delicious 'shao bing' (crispy skin pastry with meat in it) - it's freshly made when one orders and a adjoining noodle stall that serves noodles that's quite OK too. It's just opposite the Hua Yan Si temple - one of the must-visit on the list of places in Datong. Hua Yan temple is also located in a huge square with more shops and food. From the front door of the homestay, turn right and walk all the way down abt 15-20mins, go through the ancient walls and then cross the road, you'll find Parkson mall there - a huge modern mall with all your usual F & B + shops that you'll find in these malls, supermarket, etc. The bus-stop to Yun Gang Grottoes is also nearby. A new landmark that makes it easy to locate this charming homestay : a new huge pink bunny with the Chinese characters of Datong on a green artificial grass patch, that is located just abt 200m away from its main entrance.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful traditional Chinese courtyard accommodation! We were kindly upgraded on arrival, and our fantastic host went above and beyond to make our stay special, even picking us up from the train station and driving us to the hotel. He provided us with a map and discount codes for local restaurants, which were all very helpful. A lovely breakfast was delivered to our room in the morning, adding the perfect touch to a great stay. We would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting the ancient city of Pingyao. It’s full of charm and history, and the courtyard itself is such a peaceful and authentic experience. Pingyao is absolutely stunning at night, with its lantern-lit streets and historic atmosphere. Don’t miss the free night light show on the South Gate at 8 pm, it’s a spectacular display that projects stories and colors onto the ancient city walls.

This guesthouse far exceeded my expectations. I usually avoid guesthouses and B&Bs, but my ancestor insisted on experiencing an 'ancient, charming old house' in Pingyao Ancient City, so I, as a dutiful mother, quickly started searching. I was really worried about guesthouse photos being misleading and the conditions being poor, so I specifically went to check out the room the day before. It was indeed clean, warm, and odor-free. It's supposedly a very historic old house, a beautiful and tidy three-courtyard complex. I asked, and it's their family's own courtyard, and it's certainly very well-maintained. [Excellent Location] I have to praise the superb location. Turn right out the door and walk just 2 minutes to reach South Street, the main thoroughfare. Notably, the amenities in the room were all thoughtfully chosen: Lion brand hand soap, Elizabeth Arden green tea hand cream, Senka facial cleanser. The shampoo and body wash were Fino and Kuyura. They even provided UCC drip coffee. This place blows the local Hampton Inn out of the water! The owner, a very stylish lady, clearly has great taste. The price was already very affordable since we came in the off-season. For those driving, they arrange a parking spot and have someone pick up you and your luggage to the guesthouse, and then drop you off again when you check out. They also offer discounted tickets for 'Impression Pingyao,' saving time, money, and hassle. The value for money is truly excellent.

Awesome! 👍🏻 We arrived late by high-speed train, and the owner drove directly to the station to pick us up. All the restaurants in the ancient city were closed, so the owner lent us his electric tricycle to go eat outside the city. Riding that little vehicle through the ancient city at night was truly a special experience, haha. As for the room, it had everything we needed, and the underfloor heating kept it very warm. The large kang bed was quite unique, and even the mouthwash cups were disposable. Since it was the off-season, the owner even upgraded our room. Although the wallpaper was a bit peeling, it didn't affect our stay at all. Moreover, right outside the inn is the owner's own travel photography studio. I'm so glad I didn't book one of those trendy shops recommended online in advance. The photo shoot here was absolutely fantastic 💖. The makeup artist was very gentle and recommended suitable hairstyles and makeup based on my face shape. I loved the photos, and there was absolutely no pressure during the selection process – completely voluntary. A perfect ancient city experience, I'll definitely recommend it to my friends!

I arrived quite late, and one of your lovely staff members personally escorted me to my room and even set the air conditioning temperature for me. The service was exceptional, and her attitude was excellent. When I checked out, they gave me a small gift and helped me carry my luggage down the steps outside the hotel. I was very satisfied and look forward to staying with you again. Plus, there's complimentary fish spa therapy and Hanfu experience. The private courtyard on the first floor is also fantastic, perfect for brewing tea.

Excellent location being close to almost all of the major attractions in the datong ancient city as well as the famous knife cut noodle and shumai restaurants are just short walking distance away. It is also very close to the bus stop for Yungang grottoes. The inn and room overall is very clean. I really enjoy the view from the room. The host is very lovely and can help with your travel advise and booking for transport hire to go to the hanging temple . The only negative that I can pick on is the shower situation which was not designed very well. The water outward flow from the shower is not fast enough so you end up standing on a puddle of water. And the shower curtains not positioned well so there is always going to be water splashed outside of the shower zone. I only stayed for one night and I think It’s minor compared to what this accomodation offers. I wish I could stay for more nights as it is very nice
