The hotel's location is a bit of a walk from the Kumamoto A-Line tram station, about 5 minutes with luggage. The main issue is that the path isn't very pedestrian-friendly; you have to watch out for cars, though it's still only a 5-minute walk. The lobby has a nice ambiance with pleasant scents and Kumamon merchandise everywhere. However, the area around the hotel isn't very convenient, with the closest convenience store also about a 5-minute walk away.
The room itself was decent, with enough space to open a 28-inch suitcase. The bathroom, however, seemed quite old. There are only three shared washing machines in the hotel, which are often in high demand, and it costs 600 yen for a 2-hour cycle. Overall, it met the stable and reliable expectations of a chain hotel. Drinking water was provided.
In summary, if you don't want to stay in Fukuoka (expensive) and are choosing between Kumamoto and Kagoshima for a longer stay, I stayed in Kumamoto for 3 nights this time. One day was spent at Aso Kusasenri and Takachiho, another day dolphin watching, which left the remaining time feeling a bit dull. I'd suggest staying longer in Kagoshima instead; the hotels near Kagoshima Station seem cheaper, of better quality, and the surrounding area is more vibrant.
Compared to hotels in Tokyo and Fukuoka at the same price point, The Blossom Kumamoto offers excellent value for money!
First off, the location is incredibly convenient, right next to Kumamoto Station's exit. We used it as our base for five nights, visiting Kagoshima, Kurokawa Onsen, Mount Aso, Amakusa, and Tanushimaru Station, making our 7-day JR Pass absolutely worth it!
Secondly, it's right next to Amu Plaza, where we had many of our meals. The 6th and 7th floors have restaurant dining options, including Seireitei and wagyu beef. The first floor, near the Higo Market, offers horse sashimi, ramen, sushi, and more – super convenient.
Finally, regarding the hotel itself, the room type we booked was quite spacious and quiet, and the facilities are relatively new. The only downside is no in-room bathtub (though there's a public onsen, which can get a bit crowded). One minor annoyance is that, apart from deep cleaning days, they don't even make the bed, haha. They only empty the trash and restock supplies. However, the staff are all very nice, friendly, and professional. Overall, highly recommended.
Strategic location right at the Shinshigai Shopping Street where you can literally get anything you need from food to shopping. It is also near the Kumamoto Castle within 10-20mins walking distance.
This hotel chain has lived up to its expectations, clean, fully equipped with amenities and spacious room. We've been staying at this hotel chain in Osaka, Hiroshima and now Kumamoto.
Highly recommended hotel for those who are visiting Kumamoto!
## Fumoto Ryokan, Kurokawa Onsen - A Northern Kyushu Trip
From Yufuin to Kurokawa Onsen, there are three daily bus services: 9:00 AM, 1:50 PM, and 2:50 PM.
A quick note on bus reservations: While online booking is available, it requires credit card payment beforehand, which isn't ideal. We don't recommend it unless it's peak season and you need to secure a seat days in advance. Our suggested method is to ask the front desk at your accommodation (like Yufuin Sansuikan, where we stayed) to call and book for you upon check-in. This typically secures a seat for the next day, and it's usually successful unless it's peak season. Phone reservations don't require pre-payment; you can simply pay on the bus. The contact number is 0570-09-3533 (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM).
The bus ride takes a little over 1.5 hours and costs 2200 JPY. (Refer to Photo 1 for the timetable.) The bus also makes a brief stop at a rest area just before reaching Kurokawa Onsen.
The ryokan provides a pick-up service from the bus stop. If you're unable to contact them beforehand, don't worry – it's an easy 10-minute walk to the ryokan from the bus stop using Google Maps. It's not far, and you can enjoy the charming onsen town scenery on your way.
The ryokan's main entrance is located directly opposite a cream puff shop, which coincidentally shares the same name, 'Fumoto.' Be aware that the entrance can be easily missed, as many tourists often gather in front of the cream puff shop, potentially blocking the view of the ryokan's discreet, Japanese-only sign (see Photo 4).
There's no need to use the ryokan's public baths; the women's outdoor section, in particular, tends to be quite cold. Instead, the ryokan boasts a large number of private baths, ranging from small to large. As the ryokan has a limited number of rooms and is generally not overcrowded, you'll almost always find an available private onsen. A highlight is the unique 'Tachi-yu' (standing bath), where you can literally stand in water up to 1.6 meters deep.
Kurokawa Onsen is a very compact town, so booking a plan that includes both breakfast and dinner is highly recommended; otherwise, finding dining options can be challenging. The meals provided by the ryokan were excellent and definitely worth trying.
Although we were a group of three, there wasn't a specific room option for that number of guests, so we regrettably ended up paying for an 'extra person's fee'.
Our rooms were quite spacious. We stayed in rooms named 'Taka' (Hawk) and 'Kiri' (Mist), which offered views of the mountains and a pleasant stream flowing right outside the window.
The ryokan staff were all young and extremely friendly, with some even being Chinese speakers.
Overall, if you're looking to experience the charm of a traditional onsen town, Fumoto Ryokan is an excellent choice.
A great value stay! The staff were friendly and helpful. The washing machine facilities were easy to use and managed to find an available machine most times. We stayed for 3 nights and each day bins were emptied and fresh towels given. The extra space under the bed for suitcases is a great touch and overall the room design in excellent. There were several tour groups staying during the 3 days which made it a little too busy, especially during breakfast as these guests all went at the same time. Not a great experience for more independent travelers like us, but the staff tried very hard. Overall one of the better stays we had during our Kyushu trip.
The hotel facilities are a bit old, so if you're sensitive about hygiene, you might want to reconsider. It feels like they do a thorough cleaning, but some of the equipment is dated, and there are signs of wear and tear that can't be completely scrubbed away. Our family of three stayed here; it had three beds and a good amount of space. There's also a coin-operated laundry facility within the hotel.
The best part about this hotel is definitely the breakfast – a rich variety of options and excellent value. The location is perfect for shopping, with Shimotori Shopping Street just a 3-5 minute walk away. At the entrance of the shopping street, there's an Isomaru Suisan (a chain seafood restaurant) that serves fantastic eel rice. You can order a whole eel and add rice separately for more eel, or just get the regular eel rice bowl, which is a bit cheaper. Considering how great the breakfast is, this hotel offers really good value for money. I would personally recommend it.
Good if you like old school charm hotel, room and service. Castle view room was a disappointment - have to stand at the side of the window to actually see the castle :(
Location was great and parking was onsite. There’s a driveway at the front of the hotel and from there, the staff guided us to their onsite parking. It’s as advertised JPY1000 per day but on day of checkout, parking is until 11.30am. After that, cheaper to park elsewhere (JPY100 for 15mins vs JPY200 for 2hrs at Kumamoto Castle).
The hotel just opened in August this year, the well-known chain hotel, every time I come to Japan, I find a way to live once. I feel good to take off my shoes and enter the hotel. The open-air bathing pool is a bit small. The room is too new and can also detect a little decoration. The taste, overall is still very satisfactory!
Cons:
Even though I was prepared for it, I still have to say the room was tiny when I opened the door. I booked a double bed for my parents, and the layout was actually different from my twin room, even smaller.
Pros:
Super cheap!
The shower was great.
Despite being on a main street, it was very quiet.
The location is excellent, right below a pedestrian shopping street, and there's a 7-Eleven and Isomaru Suisan nearby. Just one street over, there are many yakitori and yakiniku restaurants, and Katsuretsu Tei is right next door.
I didn't have breakfast at the hotel, but I found a Sukiya nearby that served breakfast – literally beef bowls first thing in the morning!
Overall, a great hotel with excellent value for money, worth staying at.
This hotel is located on the left side when you exit Kumamoto Station, so the location is excellent. It's a newly opened hotel, and the lobby smells incredibly fragrant and pleasant. The room and bathroom are quite spacious for Japan, and there's a sofa which is very convenient for putting things on. The streetcar right outside the door makes it easy to get to Kumamoto Castle and other attractions. The only downside is that there's no hot spring bath. I'd definitely stay here again next time I visit.

GGuest UserMy recent stay at Hotel Kadoman left me thoroughly impressed. The generously sized rooms provided ample space to unwind and relax, adding an extra level of comfort to my stay. What truly stood out, however, were the culinary offerings. Both dinner and breakfast were a culinary delight, with each dish crafted to perfection and bursting with flavor. The service was equally commendable, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant and memorable experience. If you're looking for a hotel that offers spacious accommodations, delicious dining options, and excellent service, look no further than Hotel Kadoman.

Highly recommended hotel for those who are visiting Kumamoto!
AAnonymous UserFor my three relaxing days in Kumamoto, I picked this hotel, which boasts a prime location. We relied solely on the tram for all our excursions, and its superb location meant most places were just a couple of stops away – truly fantastic. I also got to visit all the restaurants and cafes I'd been eager to try. Sakuramachi shopping mall is directly opposite, just a five-minute walk away, and there's a bus stop there with services to the airport. The hot spring on the 12th floor, featuring both indoor and outdoor baths along with a sauna, was a wonderful bonus.
SSFtripperFantastic stay! Excellent room with open-air bath and little garden. Food tasted great, well balanced saltiness and sweetness. Service staff were warm and efficient, taking initiative to provide service for guest's convenience.

GGuest UserI honestly do not know where to start, I booked the hotel without really knowing much about Kumamoto Prefecture. After arriving in Kumamoto City and then realising Ueki Onsen is another 40 minute bus ride I was thinking oh dear where am I staying. After arriving at the hotel I was greeted by the manager of the hotel who showed me to my room and gave me a tour of the facilities. Once settled in I realised there isn't great public transport around and I primarily wanted to see Beppu and Yufuin during my stay, I enquired with the manager on where I might be able to rent a car, with little to no Japanese language under my belt he took it upon himself to reserve a vehicle for me and offered to drive me himself to collect it. He then also said he would take me back to return it a few days later. After my trips to Beppu and Yufui village (Not to be missed) and not to miss the outstanding and beautiful surroundings in Uekimachi and the Aso region. The manager and I set off to return my hire car, on the way back he took me to Kikuchi shrine to pray and also gifted me coffee and cake. They also accommodated me with use of the on site onsen (amazing) after hours as I'm heavily tattooed. I feel truly grateful to have found this hidden gem of rural Japan and if you are thinking of traveling this great country I emplore you to go off the beaten path. I experienced untold kindness during my stay and have memories of a life time. Thank you so much guys

LLei,taoOverall, a fantastic stay! I really appreciated the complimentary drinks and the spacious bathtub in the room. The service was excellent, and I'll definitely be returning for another visit. My only minor critique is that the location isn't the most convenient, but despite that, I found the overall experience to be very satisfactory.
