We were amazed by the level of customer service, amenities provided and the cleanliness. We were so happy there, didn’t need to think of anything - everything needed was provided. And thermal pools are just perfect located just couple of minutes away from the chalet we were staying at. Highly recommend!

Excellent hotel! The restaurant food was incredibly authentic, and the service was absolutely top-notch. The staff's professionalism was among the best I've experienced in any hotel. My trip was rushed, otherwise I would have definitely stayed here for a few more days.

Very clean amenities, staff were very helpful. Community kitchen is a great idea and we’ll set out with all utensils needed to cook a meal. Would definitely recommend the Silver Fern to anybody.

Hotel is trading on its name. Place is in desperate need of an upgrade to rooms and many facilities. No air conditioning to our hotel room, room had a ceiling fan and a cheap pedestal fan. Reasonable breakfast buffet selection, though several hot selections were cold, coffee machine broken and apple juice borderline off. Heated lap pool full of leaves and lot broken and slippery tiles around pool. Room bathroom was very dated and worn. Bed pillows were of poor quality. Rooms not very soundproof. Staff were friendly so no bad reflection on them, it’s down to management and ownership to make this a hotel to miss until significant upgrades, maintenance and improvements are completed. For the price we paid we could have stayed at many other nearby establishments, but chose Wairakei because of its name and perception that it was an upmarket establishment. We were wrong. Would not be rushing back to stay again.

The hotel is in a quiet location, with simple facilities. There is no TV and private kitchen, only a public kitchen, which we think is not hygienic enough and useless. The good thing is that there are two breakfast and dinner restaurants next to it. The food in the COFFEE breakfast restaurant is very good, and the service is also very good. It is not expensive and worth tasting; However, Asians should be more careful when eating at Tomo Bar. We went there for more than an hour and we were not served. The three foreign tables that came later than us were served before us. After I confirmed that they served the dishes in the order of arrival time, I was very dissatisfied and went to find them. They saw that I was a little angry, and served all the dishes in less than two minutes. They threw the newspaper I ordered on the ground, and neither apologized nor gave me a new one. I gave them a five-star review on Google as soon as I went there. At this time, they only cleared the tableware for the foreign table, and pretended not to see the empty wine glasses we drank. At the end, there was no polite language when they went to clear the tableware. I think they can negotiate what kind of guests they don’t welcome and don’t charge us. We also hate to eat in places like them, which lowers our emotional value.

Staff is super friendly. I fell ill and couldnt left Auckland and because of the app policy, I couldnt get the refund but they still let my friends stay there instead of myself. And they were very pleased with stay. It was clean, had all the amenities needed for comfortable stay etc.

We made a temporary reservation due to weather problems. There were no hotels nearby, only motels. I was a little worried about hygiene and safety issues. When we arrived, the front desk staff was very enthusiastic and gave us two bottles of water and chocolates. The room was large and there was a stove for cooking. I arrived at almost 7 o'clock in the evening during a holiday, and there was no restaurant to eat. In the morning, I went to the Bosca cafe opposite to have a rich breakfast. Thank you Ctrip for your enthusiastic help

This B&B is in a very good location, with convenient parking. There is a small yard where children can play happily. The public area is equipped with a kitchen refrigerator, dining table and other facilities. The mattress is very comfortable and has strong support. It is the most comfortable mattress we have ever slept on in New Zealand. We didn't plan to leave, but we had no choice because the schedule was too tight, so we had to leave. However, this is really the most comfortable mattress we have ever slept on, no doubt about it. The only thing that needs to be improved may be the bedding.

AAnonymous UserThe name may give you some illusions, but it is actually a standard motel. Many rooms are hard to find at night, but the location is good, close to the lake. The interior of the room is standard and the hygiene is good.

GGuest UserEnjoyed my one night stay on a Thursday night in October. Room - Superior Queen #110. $92 nzd. Pros -Cheap -Comfy mattress -Great location -Clean -Spacious room and bathroom -Heat pump which was on when i arrived which kept the room at a comfy temp. -Kind front desk woman on arrival. -Old world architecture. Cons -Noisy heat pump (albeit grateful there was one) -No sound insulation so can hear footsteps easily. -Bed was 2 x singles pushed together and had to sleep either side of the gap. Tip - book a superior room type. It's my experience these are better quality. When you book the lead in room category (deluxe) they're cheaper for a reason. I would return but not on a Friday or Saturday as the sound of the street noise and night clubs would be heard easily. Thanks for a nice stay.

YYUJUCheck in was smooth and quick but changed room twice to get everything right. Our first room had urine stains on the toilet, which means this room was not properly cleaned up. That was terribly disgusting to find these spots. Also, the smart TV in the first room didn't work. Our second room was find but has no bathtub as requested. Changed to the third room and finally get the okay one with great AC, working TV and cleanness. It was our first time stayed in a 5-star hotel in NZ and was surprised the standard is quite low compared to the other 5 stars in Asia. Has small heated pool accommodating 6 people max. Swimming pool and sauna were fine but steam room didn't work. Service okay and great breakfast. Will consider the other place next time.

GGuest UserThe accommodation was modern, immaculately clean, and provided a high level of comfort. The cleaning staff excelled, delivering service that surpassed expectations. Overall, the experience was positive. However, it would have been beneficial to be informed in advance that the check-in office is located offsite, requiring approximately a 4 minute drive from the main premises. This information would have streamlined the arrival process.

GGuest User⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 — Comfortable, Clean, and Great for a Short Stay This isn’t a fancy or high-end hotel, but it’s definitely a great place to spend a couple of nights—especially if you’re visiting Rotorua and Taupō. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which is really all you need for a short stay when you’re out exploring most of the day. Don’t expect 5-star facilities or luxury features, but the overall experience is solid and very safe too. The stay was pleasant, the environment was tidy, and it offered good value for money. A reliable and convenient option for travellers passing through or wanting a simple base to explore the area.

Rreturn visitorA tiny motel, has basic amenities. Didn't know there's a communal kitchen until we were leaving. It's a good stop over point, but most of the town closes either early or has long weekends, so make sure you have supplies beforehand. When we arrived there there was no reception, had a number and person to ring, the entrance is a bit tricky ”around the back”...yep that's exactly what it is.
