Royal Exhibition Building Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
Melbourne's Cityscape
Melbourne is a city that took my breath away with its diverse and striking architecture. From modern skyscrapers to Victorian-era buildings, this Australian gem has it all for architecture lovers like myself.
As I strolled along the Yarra River, I was greeted by the sight of Federation Square's iconic modern design. With its sloping planes and mix of zinc, glass and sandstone, this public square shows Melbourne's embrace of contemporary architecture. Nearby Flinders Street Station, in contrast, is a stunning remnant of the city's colonial past. The prominent domed building built in 1910 remains a treasured landmark.
Venturing into the Central Business District, I craned my neck upwards to admire the towering skyscrapers. Our guide highlighted the unusual triangle-shaped Tower Melbourne, before pointing out the striking blue glass exterior of the Eureka Tower. At almost 300 meters high, this skyscraper offers incredible views from its observation deck.
Just outside the city center in inner suburbs like Fitzroy, Carlton and St Kilda, blocks of attached Victorian terraces with wrought iron lacework delighted me with their old-world charm. And the World Heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building, constructed in 1880 for the Melbourne International Exhibition, remains an outstanding symbol of the city's 19th century pride and confidence.
With its respect for the old and embrace of the new, Melbourne has curated an architectural experience like no other for visitors. The diversity of building styles here, from modern wonders to historic icons, tells the story of an innovative city confidently looking to the future without forgetting its past. I was thoroughly impressed.

On the streets of Melbourne, you will not miss such a building, pure white appearance, magnificent. This is the Royal Melbourne Exhibition, Australia's oldest surviving exhibition, one of the world's cultural heritage. Opposite it, the Melbourne Museum, a modern style, with lines, colours and squares, highlights the city's vitality. Classical and modern, it is so integrated.
Meet many students, envy the children of Australia, have a lot of extracurricular time to study or play outdoors. Opened a different window of the world.

The time to lead the entrance is about half an hour, and a group of people buy tickets. There is a schedule at the entrance, so try to go in the morning as much as possible!! When we went, we said there would be no one to lead us after 12 o'clock
At the beginning of the entry, we cannot take out our phones. The staff will interact with us and ask us to reach out to check if there is any Weapon. After the performance, we can freely stroll around and take photos. There is still a prison atmosphere inside

Old Melbourne Gaol
#melbournetrip
The backbone of Melbourne & its history all explained and laid out for you to discover.
The history and story's the Old Melbourne Gaol tells as you explore the cells and yards where the prisoners were kept. It's amazing. Sitting in a cell knowing that there were people kept there of very 150 years ago is amazing. The architecture of the 1845 building and the workmanship is astonishing.
It's an excellent way to fill in a few hours while in Melbourne or ever just pop in for a quick squiz.
Old Melbourne Gaol
#melbournetrip An epic look back into our not-so-distant past, the Old Melbourne Gaol is well preserved and well presented. You can wander through on your own or join a guided tour for an extra $5. Souvenirs and snacks were reasonably priced. Check out the hanging area.. it's not singposted but there is a rope hanging from a beam above. I asked a National Trust volunteer and he told me the history; there were 51 people hung there including women, and 11 more after the beam was transferred to Pentridge prison. It was eventually moved back in place in I think 2002? The place is scrupulously clean and you can go into and spend time in the cells on your own. A must for history lovers.
Eye-Opening Old Melbourne Gaol Visit

The Old Melbourne Gaol stands as a solemn testament to Australia's convict history, offering visitors a poignant journey into the past. Located in Melbourne, this historic prison operated from 1845 to 1929 and housed notorious criminals like Ned Kelly. Today, it serves as a compelling museum and heritage site. The gaol's stark bluestone walls and imposing cells provide an immersive experience, allowing visitors to explore the harsh conditions faced by prisoners during the 19th century. The museum showcases artifacts, exhibits, and interactive displays, shedding light on the lives of both inmates and staff. One of the most haunting features is the site of 133 hangings, including that of the infamous bushranger Ned Kelly. The Old Melbourne Gaol is a window into Australia's penal past, offering a sobering reflection on justice, crime, and punishment in colonial times.

Royal Arcade Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Jun)
The Royal Arcade is Melbourne's first arcade and is Australia's long-standing arcade building. As a Victorian building, the Royal Arcade has become a historic heritage building. Opposite the Melbourne Post Office, this arcade connects Little Collins Street and Bourke Street Mall in a T-shaped structure with a luxurious interior and a large clock at the entrance, hourly. On the sides of the clock are two mythical characters Gog and Magog. There are many myths about these two people. One of the stories is about these two people, one is the guard of hell, the other is the dark god. As predicted, when the two return to war, the war will end. The current stores in the Royal Arcade are mainly jewellery shops, craft shops, cafes, dessert stations and hair salons, as well as some singular shops such as the Tarot store. There are trams on the road in front of the
royal arcade, and there are also street performers performing.
