Very nice place for walk and spend time with family. Even when the weather is too hot you can find umbrellas and airconditioned toilets. There's lots of parking spaces to keep the car while you're enjoying the beach. Sharjah is known as the cultural capital of the UAE. Walking through its streets, you can feel a rich and profound cultural atmosphere everywhere. The city has a total of 16 museums, among which the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization left the deepest impression on me. The venue was originally an old Middle Eastern market, transformed to specifically showcase a millennium of Islamic civilization. The museum houses many unique and precious artifacts, including a variety of rare handwritten Qur’ans. Be sure to visit the top floor. The dome featuring the 12 zodiac signs is exquisitely designed and stunning, serving as the highlight of the entire museum. Photo 8 shows the UAE’s oldest Al Bidya Mosque 🕌 in Fujairah, which I also visited and will share later. The UAE consists of 7 emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, and Ajman. #itinerarycheck Two very different Hajar Mountain experiences in one day: the manicured Jebel Jais Adventure Peak boardwalk (Ras Al Khaimah) and the wild Wadi Shawka pool loop (border of RAK/Ajman). I drove from Dubai in January, 06:00 start. Jebel Jais E611 north to RAK, then E87 to the Jebel Jais signed turn-off. The road is paved to 1,500 m; Adventure Peak boardwalk (a 20-min elevated loop with railings and panels) sits at 1,450 m beside the Jais Flight zip-line base. Free to walk, no ticket. Parking 20 AED. Temperature at 07:00 was 9 °C—bring a shell. The view south to the Gulf is the photo op. Note: the higher summit road (1,934 m) is open but no facilities beyond the viewing deck. Petrol station at the base village; carry 3 L water per person regardless. Wadi Shawka Descend to the E87, south 40 min to Shawka Dam sign. A 4x4 helps for the last 1 km to the trailhead, but a sedan can park at the dam and walk in. The Shawka Dam loop is 10 km, 3 hrs, but I did the shorter pool section: 2.5 km each way from the dam to the first perennial pool under the travertine shelf. Swimming is permitted; no lifeguard. Entrance free. Rules & Errors No camping fires in Jais picnic zones (fine 500 AED). Wadi flash-flood risk after rain—check NCM app; I went in dry January, safe. Tourists wearing flip-flops on Jais boardwalk—fine there, suicidal at the wadi boulders. Wear closed trail shoes. Payments Everything takes Apple Pay or cards in RAK city; the wadi has zero vendors. Pack lunch. Opinion Jais is Disney-fied nature; Shawka is the real Hajar. Both worth it, but the contrast raises a question: how much infrastructure should a desert emirate build before a mountain stops being a mountain? I’d cap Jais at the boardwalk and leave Shawka unpaved.
