If you insist on going in August or September, I suggest skipping the poplar forest scenic area to save on entrance fees and focus on the desert. The dunes of the Badain Jaran Desert are even wilder than those of the Singing Sand Dunes. Hire an off-road vehicle to venture into the heart of the desert; the driver will take you to the highest point, Da Sha Zao Hai Zi (Big Sand Date Lake), where the blue-green water contrasts beautifully with the golden dunes, creating an almost unreal effect. To enter the desert, you must hire a local driver with a chartered car, about CNY 800 for a car, which allows you to play all day. Riding in an off-road vehicle over the dunes, kids will scream "again!" The feeling of weightlessness is more thrilling than a roller coaster. 📍 There are several lakes (haizi) in the desert, with water so blue it looks unreal. You can also find beautiful desert rose stones by the lakes. ⏰ At 7 PM, climb to the top of a dune to watch the sunset.
