While visiting Houston, Texas, I drove three hours to Austin just to hit up a great BBQ joint. Since everyone says this is a must-see when in Austin, I decided to check out the Texas State Capitol~ Admission is free, so I just paid for parking nearby and looked around. I really would've regretted it if I had skipped this place~ lol. Security is pretty tight—there are armed guards at the entrance and security checkpoints inside—but seeing the sheer grandeur of the building's exterior and interior made the visit totally worth it~ There are plenty of great photo spots all over, the restrooms are super clean, and the elevators have a wonderful vintage vibe. From the staircases to the ceilings and floors, I highly recommend stopping by and seeing it all for yourself!!

#overratedspots I had Barton Springs Pool high on my Austin list because I kept seeing photos of people enjoying the clear natural water surrounded by greenery. When I visited, the water was refreshing and the setting was definitely attractive, but the crowds changed the experience for me. I imagined a peaceful natural swimming spot where I could relax for hours, but the reality was much busier. Finding a comfortable place to settle down could be difficult, especially during popular periods. I still enjoyed the experience and understood why locals and visitors love it, but I think the hype creates expectations of a much more tranquil environment. It’s worth trying once, but I’d choose my timing carefully. #overratedspots

#overratedspots I liked McKinney Falls State Park as an easy outdoor escape from Austin, but I wouldn’t rank it among the most spectacular natural attractions I’ve seen. The trails and rocky scenery were enjoyable, and being able to get away from the city without traveling too far was definitely a plus. My main disappointment was that the waterfalls didn’t match the dramatic images I had seen beforehand. Conditions matter enormously, so someone visiting after heavy rain could have a completely different experience from mine. I think the park is worth visiting if you’re already in the Austin area and want some nature, but I wouldn’t make a long journey just for the falls without checking conditions first. It is a classic example of why #overratedspots doesn’t always mean “bad.”

#overratedspots My visit to South Congress Avenue was enjoyable, but I think the best way to experience it is without chasing every famous photo opportunity. The street has plenty of character, and I liked browsing the shops and stopping at places for food and coffee. However, the most famous spots were also some of the busiest, and they didn’t always feel as special in person as they looked online. Once I moved beyond the obvious tourist locations, I started appreciating the neighborhood more. For anyone visiting Austin, I’d suggest exploring SoCo but keeping expectations realistic. It’s a fun area, just not necessarily the magical local experience that some travel posts make it sound like. For that reason, it earns a place on my #overratedspots list.

There are lots of great photo spots. 4️⃣ Top 3 BBQ places ranking: Hutchins = must-eat Brisket is super tender! If you’re having dinner, get to beef ribs early before they sell out. Also tried Terry Black; only the Austin location is good, the others are pretty average. 5️⃣ Texas Capitol Free guided tours are surprisingly fun, with clear explanations and great photo opportunities. 7️⃣ Highly recommend Buc-ee’s for a road trip culture experience Lots of Texas-exclusive snacks and souvenirs, plus free samples! The restrooms are unexpectedly ✨super clean✨, no wonder everyone says you have to check in at Buc-ee’s. 8️⃣ NASA Johnson Space Center Seeing real rockets and training facilities is impressive. Recommend going early to grab tram tour tickets; afternoon slots usually sell out. If short on time, just the astronaut training facility tour is worth it. 9️⃣ Houston River Walk Honestly, a bit ordinary… Chicago’s is much more fun. 🔟🔫 Shooting range This time shot at a friend’s farm shooting range, felt pretty cool! Friends also recommend many official shooting ranges in Texas, said to be even more fun—want to try next time. 🌞 Thoughts on Texas Big, sunny, long distances, but cheap and delicious food, and super friendly people!

#overratedspots My experience on Sixth Street showed me that a crowded nightlife district isn’t automatically the best nightlife destination. I visited expecting live music, friendly bars, and a classic Austin atmosphere, and there was certainly plenty of energy. However, the crowds were so large in some areas that simply walking around could become tiring. I also found that the experience depended heavily on the exact bar or section of the street I visited. Some places were fun, while others felt like they were relying heavily on the reputation of Sixth Street itself. I wouldn’t tell someone to skip it completely, especially on a first Austin trip, but I’d definitely explore beyond the famous strip too. Sometimes the less-hyped neighborhoods provide a better experience. #overratedspots

I believe everyone has heard of the famous IN-N-OUT. I originally thought that I would have to go to the West Coast to have a chance to eat it, but I didn’t expect it to be available in Texas. I went to buy some and tried it right away! Compared to the burgers at other fast food chains, what impressed me most about IN-N-OUT is that its lettuce 🥬 and tomatoes 🍅 are really fresh. Paired with perfectly fried beef steak, cheese slices, raw onions and grilled hamburger buns, it is indeed a delicious burger 🍔. It is so popular for a reason. Stayed for 4 nights, and we had some reservation issues but solved them well but one of the front people was rude who handled our issue. But others were very kind and friendly. The room was very antique and high ceiling which is really nice! Our room was city view but…. There no way to see outside because the window is tinted 😅 The bathroom is kinda fun, bathtub with half window barricade but when we turned to shower, All the water in the shower went out of the tub, I think shower curtain will be more helpful for housekeeping and the window barricade you can open it but it opened the opposite(why lol) Foods were great and so colorful. And you can have a free history hotel tour around 4pm every day! Guide knows well about the hotel and you will learn new things (maybe including the Ghost part as well). Also only valet parking is available. Around $40 per night. They are very quick and you can call your car via the web and you can also tip through the web

We visited the café while in Austin. Love the atmosphere of the cafe, and staff are polite and helpful. Food wise is decent. We love the soup and some of the dishes on the buffet menu. For RM38+ , it is worth the deal. It is nice that Time's Cafe tweet their menu a bit every month to give diners a refreshing dining experience.

Delicious food, fabulous atmosphere and friendly service. All four of us ordered the fried chicken and Texas shaped waffle. It’s also in a great neighbourhood. A necessary stop while visiting Austin. Ordered Paris Texas Benedict and Texas Migas. Love the ambience (love the subtle scent of the cafe as we walked in) Not too crowded when we arrived on a Friday morning 7.30am, great place to have a leisurely breakfast.

Beans flame-roasted on-site, plus bakery goods, frequent live music & patio seating on Lake Austin Mozart’s coffee is a very nice place. To be honest, coffee tastes nothing special, the service is OK due to how crowded this place is. On the other side, the vibe is great. There’s live music when i came in the weekend. Just sit at the table, under the tree, enjoy the sun, the vibe and the live music. I cant ask for more.
