Love Valley
Location: İsalı - Gaferli - Avcılar, MR69+JW, 50180 Göreme
Opening Hours: Open 24/7 all year round
Legend has it that couples who hold hands here will see their relationship blossom❤️. A wishing tree adorned with colorful ribbons and clay pots in the valley is a popular spot for making wishes come true. The rocks here have delightfully quirky and exaggerated shapes, making it a must-visit for photos—every casual snap looks like it has a scenic filter applied. Couples can even buy a small clay pot from local vendors, write their wishes, and hang them on the tree. Super romantic!
Pasabag (Fairy Chimneys)
Location: İsalı - Gaferli - Avcılar, 50180 Göreme
These mushroom-shaped rock pillars look just like giants straight out of a fairy tale. They are dotted with caves and windows where many monks and hermits used to hide away. The weathering marks from wind and rain look even more spectacular up close. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes to climb a short slope, examine the cave structures up close, and experience what it’s like to "live in the mountains."
Zelve Open Air Museum
Location: Küme Evleri No:1, 50180 Aktepe/Avanos/Nevşehir
Opening Hours: 08:00-17:00 (Last entry at 16:15)
This is the most well-preserved and largest cave village in Cappadocia. Originally home to local residents, its abandonment has turned it into a deeply atmospheric ruin that transcends time. Rock houses, churches, and dwellings intertwine, and you can even walk inside some of the caves to explore—it's quite awe-inspiring.
Devrent Valley (Imagination Valley)
Location: Ürgüp Yolu, 50500 Aktepe/Avanos/Nevşehir
Opening Hours: 07:30-22:00
There are no cave ruins here, making it the perfect place to let your imagination run wild! Every rock looks like a natural sculpture—you can spot camels, dolphins, and various animals. Walking, taking pictures, and visualizing shapes makes it especially great for families with kids or for taking fun, creative photos.
Lunch & Avanos Pottery Village
The tour fee includes lunch, and I strongly recommend choosing the Pottery Kebab (Testi kebab), a traditional Turkish beef stew. Even the local guides highly recommend it; the beef is incredibly tender. Nearby is the Avanos Pottery Village, filled with traditional handmade pottery and hand-painted ceramic tiles. You can try DIY pottery at various workshops or conveniently pick up some souvenirs to take home.
Uçhisar Castle Viewpoint
Location: Uçhisar Castle, Göreme area
This towering, honeycomb-like rocky mountain castle is one of the most beautiful high-altitude spots in the region. No matter what angle you look from, it feels like an otherworldly landscape. Walking along the mountain trails, you can overlook the entire Göreme—the views are insanely photogenic! On sunny days, it's highly recommended to bring sunglasses and a hat, as the sun beats down quite strongly.
Shopping Stops
At the end of the itinerary, the guide will bring everyone to check out local specialties, such as tea bags, Turkish delight, peppermint oil, etc. There is no pressure to buy, so feel free to just browse.
Cappadocia Red Tour Tips
1. First-time visitors are highly encouraged to book a one-day tour. Having a private car and guide saves time and ensures safety, especially for travelers with language barriers or those who don't want to research itineraries.
2. The valley has a large temperature difference between day and night, and the summer sun is fierce. It’s recommended to bring water, a sun hat, a light jacket, and comfortable walking shoes.
3. If you want to capture sunlight and cave shadows, around noon is the best time.
4. Prices for specialty pottery and hand-painted tiles can vary, so don't forget to haggle.
Transportation Guide
Most hotels are located in Göreme, and most day tours offer hotel pick-up and drop-off, saving you the hassle of figuring out bus schedules and making it effortless.
Food Recommendations
The Pottery Kebab is a must-try! Pair it with local yogurt (at an additional cost) for a super flavorful experience!
