Barnaul travel guide and discussion

If you imagine Beijing as nothing but concrete and futuristic skyscrapers, Qianmen Street will completely change your perspective. This is a place where the history of the Ming and Qing dynasties meets the city's modern rhythm. ✨Why it’s worth a visit: Qianmen is the iconic "face" of old Beijing. The street has been beautifully restored to capture the charm of the early 20th century. · Vintage Trams: A replica of a classic red tram cruises the street—it's the perfect backdrop for atmospheric photos. · Architecture: You’ll find traditional Chinese facades, vintage signage, and cozy tea houses. · Food Scene: This is home to legendary Peking duck restaurants (Quanjude is the most famous). Pro tip: don't hesitate to explore the narrow hutongs (alleys) branching off the main street—that’s where you’ll find the most authentic local eateries. 💡When to go: · The Golden Hour: Visit in the evening, just after sunset. Once thousands of red lanterns light up, the street looks like a set from a period film. · Travel Tip: Try to avoid weekends and public holidays, as it gets very crowded. A weekday evening is your best bet for a more relaxed experience. Ⓜ️How to get there: The easiest way is by metro. 1. Take Line 2 (the loop line). 2. Get off at Qianmen Station (前门). 3. Use Exit C or B. You’ll step out right by the famous Qianmen Gate, which marks the start of the pedestrian street. ✈️Traveler Pro-Tip: Don’t just stick to the main thoroughfare. Duck into the Dashilan area—Beijing’s oldest commercial district. You’ll find pharmacies and silk shops that have been in business for 200–300 years. It’s a genuine "portal" to the past! *Save this post so you don’t miss it when planning your Beijing itinerary! 🇨🇳 trip

Before our trip, Chinese train stations were honestly one of my biggest fears about the whole country. Massive stations, a sea of characters, confusing gates, transfers… I watched videos and read guides in advance just to make sure I didn’t accidentally end up in the wrong place 😅 In reality, everything turned out to be much simpler and more logical than I had imagined. 🚄 How We Traveled We had several long trips during our journey: Beijing → Changsha → Zhangjiajie — two high-speed trains with a 1.5-hour transfer. Zhangjiajie → Shanghai — a direct train, about 8 hours, traveling in 1st class. Shanghai → Beijing — about 4 hours, 2nd class. We bought all our tickets through Trip.com. Sales opened about 14 days in advance, and here’s a crucial tip: the opening time is based on Beijing Time. For some reason, I initially thought it was Moscow time and almost missed out on 1st-class tickets for the direct train from Zhangjiajie to Shanghai 😅 🛂 Your Passport is Your Ticket We didn’t need any printouts or QR codes to get through. At the station entrance, you just show your passport, go through security—and that’s it. The actual ticket on Trip.com is mostly for your own reference: to check the time, station, train number, and most importantly—the gate. Keep in mind that gates can change, but Trip.com updates the info in the app and sends a notification. 🏢 How to Navigate a Chinese Train Station? Surprisingly—it’s easy. Yes, the stations are huge, especially in Shanghai. But the logic is very similar to an airport: find your gate → go to the designated zone → wait for boarding. Key information is duplicated in English, so I never felt like "I'm going to be lost here forever" 😂 ⏰ How Early Should You Arrive? We arrived about 1 to 1.5 hours early. Passport checks and security took us about five minutes, and the rest of the time we just sat and waited. Boarding starts about 15 minutes before departure. We visited in June and it wasn't very crowded, so I probably wouldn't arrive that early next time. However, during holidays or peak season, I’d still leave an hour buffer. 🚦 How Boarding Works Keep an eye on the display boards or your app. When boarding begins, the status turns green and the passage to the platform opens. There is usually a separate line for foreigners where they manually check passports. In Beijing, Changsha, and Zhangjiajie, we went through quite quickly. In Shanghai, however, the foreigner line moved so slowly that staff eventually opened extra lanes and just started manually matching faces to passport photos 😅 💺 1st Class or 2nd Class? We tried both. I liked 1st class much better. The seats are wider, there’s more legroom, there are footrests, fewer people, and the carriage is much quieter. 2nd class is noticeably noisier: the seats are narrower, it’s more crowded, passengers are constantly coming and going, and people are eating, talking on their phones, or chatting loudly. You just have to get used to the Chinese way of behaving on trains 😅 Comparing the comfort of 2nd class to "Sapsan" or "Lastochka" economy back home, I felt our trains were actually a bit more comfortable. That said, the Chinese trains were quite clean, with carriages and toilets being cleaned regularly. 🧳 Luggage We had no issues with luggage at all. In 2nd class, suitcases fit easily on the overhead racks. In 1st class, we tucked them behind the seats against the wall. 🍱 Food You won't go hungry. Stations have plenty of shops and cafes. On the train, a food trolley makes rounds, plus there’s a dining car. We usually just bought everything at the station beforehand. 💰 Ticket Prices For one person, it cost us roughly: Beijing → Zhangjiajie — 8,500 ₽ Zhangjiajie → Shanghai — 13,000 ₽ (1st class, direct train) Shanghai → Beijing — 7,000 ₽ The most expensive trip was the eight-hour ride in 1st class, but for such a long route, I didn't regret paying extra for comfort at all. ⚡ 350 km/h — and You Barely Feel It Our train reached a top speed of about 350 km/h. But inside, you hardly feel it—the ride is smooth and relatively quiet. For some reason, I expected Chinese high-speed trains to be just like Japanese Shinkansen. In reality, they seemed a bit older and less comfortable than I had imagined. But as a way to travel between Chinese cities, it’s still incredibly convenient. 😂 Our Biggest Blunder On the way from Zhangjiajie to Shanghai, we simply sat in the wrong seats. The conductor came over, told us we were in the wrong spot—and that was the end of the drama 😂 💭 Should You Be Afraid of Chinese Trains? Not at all. If you can navigate an international airport, you’ll likely be fine at a Chinese train station. It’s all quite intuitive, information is in English, and if you're really stuck, there are plenty of staff members you can just show your ticket to. Before the trip, I thought the trains would be one of the hardest parts of our itinerary. But after the very first trip, we stopped worrying about it altogether. 🚄🇨🇳

Friends, if you're planning a stay in Barnaul, there's a great option we've tried ourselves. We're telling you about the Altai Hotel (24 Lenin Avenue). Why we chose it Firstly, it's in the city center. Within walking distance are Nagorny Park with a view of the Ob River, the local history museum, and the main pedestrian promenade. It's perfect for skipping the commute and heading straight for a stroll. Secondly, the building itself is an architectural monument built in 1941 and a cultural heritage site. After renovation, the spirit of the Stalin era was preserved inside: the grand staircase, columns, and mid-20th-century interiors. The rooms feature black-and-white photographs of old Barnaul, creating a unique atmosphere. It feels like you're transported back in time, but with modern comfort. Important information about the rooms The hotel has 77 rooms of various categories: Economy is a budget option with a shared bathroom (the showers and toilets are very clean and always available). Standard and Business rooms have a private bathroom, air conditioning, refrigerator, TV, robes, and slippers. Suites and Suites are spacious two-room rooms. Guests especially praise the comfortable beds, crisp white linens, and cleanliness in their reviews. Bottles of water are provided in the rooms, and coolers on each floor are a nice bonus. An important detail: there is no elevator. Keep this in mind if you plan to travel with a lot of luggage or have difficulty climbing stairs. Our rooms were on the 4th floor—the climb can be invigorating in the heat, but it's better to know in advance 😅 About breakfast and food Breakfast is buffet-style from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM (until 11:00 AM on weekends). The menu is varied: omelets, casseroles, cold meats and cheeses, vegetables, and cereal. Reviews vary: some call the breakfasts "very tasty," others "modest." But we really enjoyed them. There's a 24-hour coffee shop on the ground floor, so you can have dinner or a snack at any time. Nearby is the "Vilka-Lozhka" cafeteria and a Chinese restaurant, if you're looking for variety. Prices and Service Prices start at 5,000 rubles per night. Breakfast is included in the room rate. Parking is free, which is a great bonus for the city center. Bottom Line The Altai Hotel is a place with character and history. Yes, there are some nuances (no elevator, not all rooms have private bathrooms), but if you want the center, the atmosphere of old Barnaul, and a comfortable night's sleep, this is your choice. We were delighted, especially with our evening walk to Nagorny Park ✨ Have you stayed in historic hotels? On our way back from the Altai Mountains, we decided to drop by Barnaul. Instead of just crashing for the night, we treated ourselves to a mini-tour. And we didn’t regret it! The city turned out to be incredibly cozy and truly unique. If you’re ever passing through, here’s our must-see list that easily fits into a single evening and morning. Where to Stay 🏨 For a layover, convenience and parking are key. We were torn between renting a daily apartment and booking a hotel on the outskirts of town. We ended up finding a great spot right in the city center, though many recommend looking in the Novosilikatny or Vlasikha districts. Staying there makes it much easier to hit the highway in the morning without getting stuck in traffic. Our Walking Route 🗺️ In the evening, we headed out to stroll through the heart of the city and loved every minute of it. Here are the top spots you shouldn’t miss: 1. Nagorny Park and the "BARNAUL" Sign 🌉 This is the ultimate landmark of the city. Situated on the high bank of the Ob River, the park offers stunning views of both the river and the bridge. But the biggest photo magnet is the giant white "BARNAUL" letters. They’re beautifully illuminated at night and looked absolutely magical! 2. "Barnaul's Arbat" — Malo-Tobolskaya Street 🚶♂️ A must-visit for anyone who loves walking. It’s a pedestrian street lined with historic merchant houses, cozy cafes, and charming souvenir shops. Don’t miss the bear sculpture—the iconic symbol of Siberia—every tourist stops for a picture with it! 3. The House Under the Spire 🏛️ A true symbol of Barnaul! Located on Lenin Avenue, this is actually a residential building topped with a tower and a clock. It has a very striking and grand appearance, especially when lit up at night. 4. Demidov Square ⛲ If you walk just a little further, you’ll find yourself in one of the city’s oldest squares. Often called a "corner of St. Petersburg" thanks to its strict classical architecture, it features a beautiful obelisk dedicated to the 100th anniversary of mining in the Altai region. What Else to See (If You Have Extra Time) ⏳ Stroll along the Ob River Embankment: A staircase leads down from Nagorny Park straight to the river. There’s a beautifully designed modern promenade that’s perfect for a relaxing walk before bed. Izumrudny Park: If you’re traveling with kids or just love green spaces, this is a fantastic spot to unwind. It recently went through a major, impressive renovation. "World of Stone" Museum: Home to a unique collection of minerals from across the globe. Traveler’s Tip 💡 If you get hungry, try to find a cafe slightly off the beaten tourist path. Word on the street is you have to try the slow-cooked maral (deer) meat and a pot of traditional Altai herbal tea. Barnaul totally won us over with its welcoming vibe and gorgeous architecture. It’s the perfect place to recharge after a long road trip through the mountains! ✨

Beijing Daxing Wildlife Park is a place where the animals feel at home, and you're a guest in their world. 🦁🐯 The vast grounds, spacious enclosures, and minimal cages allow the animals to roam almost freely. The main attraction is a safari by bus or car through areas with predators, where they come almost right up to the windows. You can feed giraffes, pet llamas, and baby kangaroos. But be prepared: the park is far from the center, about an hour and a half drive. But the experience will last all day. It's best to arrive early in the morning to take in everything. A great option if you want to escape the city noise and see wildlife without traveling to Africa. 🌿 Do you prefer parks like this or traditional zoos? 😊 #Beijing #Daxing #SafariPark #Wildlife #China #Travel

My fifth trip to China... and this time I just slowed down 🐉 Dali is a place where you don't want to rush anywhere 🌿 especially in spring, when people go out into nature, everything is in bloom and kites take to the skies 🎏 This time I wasn't just able to see but to truly experience the culture 🎨 and those moments are the most memorable ✨ thank you @trip for this experience 🙌🏼 📍 Dali, Yunnan ✈️ @trip_moments_ru #chinatravel #JourneyToChinaHeritagege #Dali #DaliEmbroidery #weifangkitefestival

🌄 This city is my personal insider tip: it's underrated because it doesn't have crowds of tourists, but it does have a true Siberian atmosphere, contrasts between the old center and modern buildings, space, light, stunning sunsets, and amazing views. 📋 Here's why Barnaul is worth adding to your wishlist: 1. The Ob River embankment – here you can catch sunrises and sunsets, watch the gentle flow of the river, and feel the tranquility (especially in the morning). 2. The old center: enchanted streets with red buildings and 19th-century architecture, where it's easy to imagine the region's past. 3. Local cafes with signature menus and cozy interiors – you can lose yourself for a day here over delicious drinks and Siberian cuisine. 4. The "slow city" atmosphere: there's lots of light, greenery, little fuss, and the air is truly fresh – the perfect place to recharge! 📸 Unexpected: Barnaul turns out to be surprisingly photogenic, and the daylight literally plays on the architecture—especially the red buildings of the old city center. 🌤️ The best time to visit is May-September (sun, greenery, and stunning pink sunsets). 👌 Life hack: Book an apartment in the historic center to experience the atmosphere of an old Siberian city! ❤️ Save for later—would you come to Barnaul? #Barnaul #Altai #HiddenGem #TripMoments #Siberia #Russia #slowtravel #naturevibes

Spring from Vladivostok can be a top destination if you choose China! 🌸✈️ Super budget—tickets to Beijing for just 11,800 rubles, and to Shanghai for 14,000 rubles (roundtrip). This is a chance to see exciting metropolises, try local cuisine, and enjoy Asia's best parks. Must-See Places: Shanghai: · Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street (Henan Middle Road, Huangpu District) — open 24 hours, tons of shops and atmospheric photos. · Yu Garden (Shanghai Yuyuan Tourism Business District) — open from 9:00 AM to 9:50 PM during peak season, admission 30 RMB. This Chinese aesthetic is perfect for a relaxing stroll, especially in the evening. Beijing: · Universal Beijing Resort (Tongzhou District) — open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, admission 441 RMB. All the top attractions and global franchises are here! Shanghai: · Shanghai Disney Resort (Chuansha New Town, Pudong) — open from 8:30 AM to 9:30 PM, tickets from 449 RMB. The park is truly amazing for all ages, and it's best to arrive early in the morning for shorter lines. Practical tips: · Buy flights on trip.com; it's the cheapest for Vladivostok-China. · Public transportation: The Chinese metro is very convenient, download the metro map in advance! — For parks, buy tickets on trip.com instead of at the ticket counter—it saves time and money. · In both Shanghai and Beijing, try the street food (shao mai, pancakes), but avoid tourist restaurants: they're expensive and not as tasty. · Cash is almost completely unnecessary: everything is through WeChat Pay or Alipay, but you can only register in advance with a Chinese number. #ChinaSpring #ShanghaiFun #TripTips #BeijingMagic #tripcom #springtravel #cheapflightdeals

There are many beautiful places in China, but I won't go to these cities again.

I stood in this line for an hour and a half—all for one of the most incredible places I've seen in China 🌾 Longji Rice Terraces rise for kilometers up the mountains. Hundreds of levels, each one seemingly carved by hand centuries ago 🖼️ I've seen Tegallalang and Jatiluwih in Bali, but this is on a completely different scale. Surrounded by mountains, golden autumn rice fields, and clean air 🙂↕️ To get here, we flew Almaty-Beijing-Shanghai-Guilin, and then drove for a couple more hours ✈️ How could China have so many places like this that we'd never even heard of? 🇨🇳🤔 ——— #china #trip #travels #travel #travelblogger #travelblog #riceterraces #china🇨🇳 #autumn

I'd heard that China has one of the most developed train systems in the world, so I decided to check it out for myself. This was my first high-speed train 🚄🇨🇳 Navigating the station was difficult—it was so large, the processes were like an airport, and there were so many people. But we managed to hop on at the last minute and had a comfortable ride to the second city of our trip 🙌🏼 A first-class ticket cost only $15—we booked it directly on the @trip app 📱 I'm currently on a long trip around China: Almaty — Beijing — Shanghai — Hangzhou — Guilin — Yangshuo — Sanya — Guangzhou — Almaty Subscribe, there are many more reels from this trip ahead 🫶🏼 ——— #china #shanghai #hangzhou #trip #worldtrip #travel #travelblogger #travelblog

✨ Barnaul. The Gornaya Apteka Museum-Restaurant – a place where history meets taste! ✨ "History, cuisine, and atmosphere – all in one: the Gornaya Apteka Museum-Restaurant in Barnaul" If you're planning a trip to Barnaul, be sure to include the Gornaya Apteka Museum-Restaurant (42 Polzunov Street) in your itinerary. This isn't just a restaurant, but a journey through time – an 18th-century building, an architectural monument, once housed the first pharmacy in Altai. What's special: Historical atmosphere: a hall in the style of a 19th-century merchant's house, vaulted rooms, antique furniture and decor. Unusual and authentic menu: Siberian ingredients, Altai herbal tinctures, dishes you won't find in ordinary establishments. Museum + restaurant combination: you can start with a tour of the pharmacy museum, then move on to dinner – the effect is even more profound. Practical information: Address: 42 Polzunov Street, Barnaul. 2GIS Hours: The restaurant is open from approximately 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM. Average bill: approximately 2,500 rubles. Tip: Book a table in advance, as the place has a unique atmosphere and is popular among tourists. Why it's worth adding to Trip.com recommendations: This place stands out from the ordinary restaurants: it's a combination of a museum and a restaurant. Interesting not only for foodies but also for history and architecture buffs. Located in the center of Barnaul, it's convenient for tourists. Suitable for both an evening dinner and an unusual cultural experience. #Barnaul #MountainApteka #museumrestaurant #siberiancuisine #historicalplace #alternativetours

Wonderful experience. Outstanding service with exceptional attention, from reception to room cleaning. Keaw, Supit, Net, Aon, you are amazing! Beautiful, smart, kind, and considerate!!!! Greetings to you from Barnaul, from Irina, Marina, Katya, and Dima. Wishing you happiness! Best wishes to you and your families.

I spent more time choosing my Beijing trip dates than I did my itinerary, because the season determines almost everything here: from the comfort of the Great Wall to the hotel price. I've compiled everything by month. 👇 🌸 Spring (March–May) March: Still cool (daytime highs of 8–12°C), windy, and sometimes dust storms. But there are few tourists. April: Cherry blossoms and magnolias are in bloom, with daytime temperatures around 18°C. One of the best months, but early April is marked by the short Qingming Festival weekend. May: Warm and dry, around 25°C. Ideal, but May 1–5 are holidays in China, and the crowds are huge. ☀️ Summer (June–August) Hot (30–35°C), humid, with frequent heavy rainfall in July–August. Summer can be hazy, and it's also the peak of school holidays, meaning the lines at the Forbidden City and the Wall are the longest. If you're visiting in the summer, explore the sights in the morning and retreat to the museums during the hottest hours. 🍁 Autumn (September–November) September: warm and sunny, the air is cleaner. A great time. October: clear skies, but October 1–7 is "Golden Week," which is best avoided. After that, the most beautiful time begins: Xiangshan Park's leaves are red and gold. November: temperatures drop to 0–10°C, there are few tourists, but the heating season begins and the air quality is worse. ❄️ Winter (December–February) Frosty (down to -10°C), very dry. But prices are the lowest, lines are almost nonexistent, and the Forbidden City looks like a postcard under the snow. Late January or February is Chinese New Year: many cafes are closed, and public transportation is crowded. 🌫 About smog Smog used to be a problem in Beijing, but it's better now, but the worst air quality occurs from November to February. Check the air quality index in an app before going out and keep a mask handy. ✅ My pick: April, September, and the second half of October. The weather is comfortable, the air is cleaner, and there are fewer crowds than during the holidays.

I went to Beijing, and I had to figure out some things on the spot. I packed what will save you time, money, and stress. 👇 📋 Before your flight 1. Check entry regulations. Visa requirements vary for citizens of different countries, so check official sources shortly before your trip. Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay. 2. Set up mobile payments in advance. Alipay or WeChat Pay with a linked international card: cash is almost never needed. Still, take a small amount of cash just in case. 3. Make sure you have internet access. Install an eSIM or VPN before you arrive: many common services and search engines don't work in China. 4. Book tickets in advance. Forbidden City, Great Wall, Summer Palace: popular attractions require a passport, and visitor numbers are limited. The Forbidden City is closed on Mondays. 5. Download apps. Didi (taxi), Amap or Baidu Maps (maps), translator with offline dictionary. 🚇 In the city 6. Always carry your passport with you. It's checked at the entrance to many places. 7. Take the subway. It's cheap, of course, and there are English signs. Bags are checked at the entrance, so leave plenty of time. 8. Beijing is huge. Don't plan more than two major visits a day, otherwise you'll spend most of your time on the road. 9. Write down addresses in Chinese. Save the address of your hotel and key locations in Chinese characters: it's easier for drivers and passersby to understand. 🌤 When and how 10. Choose the season. April-May and September-October are best. Summer is hot, winter is freezing. 11. Avoid major holidays. Golden Week in early October and Chinese New Year mean huge crowds and expensive tickets. 12. Monitor the air quality. Smog can sometimes occur, so check the forecast and bring a mask. 🍜 Little Things That Matter 13. Book your Peking duck in advance. Popular restaurants are often fully booked in the evening. 14. Bring your own napkins. Public restrooms are often out of stock. 15. Beware of "tea ceremonies" and "art students." If you're invited to a tea house or an exhibition near the central squares, it's almost always a scam, with a bill running into hundreds of yuan. Politely decline and move on.

#summerinonecut #China #Beijing #Xi'an #Shanghai Three cities and a huge number of impressions. We walked along the Great Wall of China, saw the Terracotta Army, explored the vibrant streets of Shanghai, tried local food, and simply observed the completely unfamiliar life around us. China surprised me with its scale and contrasts. Here, ancient temples stand side by side with skyscrapers, quiet parks are just steps away from bustling shopping streets, and each city feels like a separate world. Sometimes it was difficult, sometimes confusing, but never boring. I rewatch these videos and already want to relive it all ❤️

After 12 Chinese cities, I realized one thing: there's no such thing as one China 🇨🇳 Yunnan is completely different from Beijing, Hainan from Chongqing, and Shanghai from Guilin. And that's why I liked the idea of Splendid China Folk Village: it brings together the architecture, culture, and traditions of different parts of the country in one huge park. Of course, the real China is best seen with your own eyes. But as a place that makes you want to see even more, it works perfectly. 📍 Splendid China Folk Village, Shenzhen Save for a future trip to Shenzhen 🙌🏻 ✈️ @trip @trip.pal_ru 🗺️ @amazingshenzhen_ #shenzhen #china #шэнзжене #чине #трип

🏰 Main attraction: "Forbidden Journey" What: A 4D flight over Hogwarts Castle. Very realistic, just like in the movie. Important: Many people get motion sickness from the sudden movements and bright images. Many close their eyes or regret it later. Tip: If you're sensitive to motion sickness, think twice. The ride seems less intense the second time. 🎢 Second attraction: "Flight of the Hippogriff" Easy slides, the feeling of flying on a broomstick. Not too scary, suitable for everyone. The line is often shorter. Tip: Ride at sunset – beautiful views of the castle and park. 🍺 Food and Drinks Butterbeer: ¥50 cold, ¥60 frozen. Sweet, an acquired taste, best purchased in a souvenir mug. The Three Broomsticks: an atmospheric tavern, a portion of chicken and ribs (~¥118) easily feeds two. 📸 Photos without people Instead of the main square, look for: The patio at the Three Broomsticks – the castle's reflection in the water. The blue Weasley Ford Anglia – usually empty. The street near the Hog's Head pub – a vantage point devoid of pedestrians. 🌙 Night show at the castle Starts at ~7:45 PM. The best view is from the side stairs near the Flight of the Hippogriff: you can see well and get out quickly. 💡 Top life hacks Single Rider – the queue starts at 90 minutes and ends at 15-20 minutes if you're riding alone. · Visit after lunch, not in the morning—newcomers tend to be there first, and then there are fewer people. · Interactive magic wands (~¥369)—you can cast magic outside, but it sometimes doesn't work in crowds. · Wear comfortable shoes—you'll have to walk a lot. Bottom line: great atmosphere 🔥, but "Forbidden Journey" is at your own risk. Can I ask about the other zones? 😉
