There is also a small French pavilion next to it. While it was still sunny ☀️ and nice we went to the Priory Country Park, which is half an hour away on floor from town centre. There were plenty of walking groups around, some joggers, some families with their little ones. The vibe was so homey and friendly. We had a booking at The Swan Hotel for afternoon tea. We had our booking in Anna's Tearoom.... Magnificent! #myhiddengems I recommend to anyone to book in advance and have this experience. The food is yummy 😋🤤, the restaurant area is so well decorated. It is not something you would expect to see, when you look at the hotel from outside. After the tee, snacks and few cocktails, we walking around the river. Nomád Cafè is located in Bedford. It gives people a warm feeling as soon as they enter the store. The decoration is a bit like Bohemian style. The tables and chairs are mainly made of wood, and the walls are printed with black and white art paintings, which looks very stylish. Woburn Safari located in Bedford is the perfect day out for people of any age. This was one of my best day outs in the UK. If your someone who enjoys zoos then this is a must do as this experience is surreal. The park has many animals such as, giraffes, kangaroos, lions, tigers, monkeys, hippos and many more. you would never get this close to these animals and just seeing them at such a close distance is mesmerising. While we were driving around the park and entered the monkeys area various monkeys got onto a car a hitched a ride. No matter what you do not open your windows and you will be fine, many people are scared of car safaris thinking the annals will damage their car but this is not the case. The park offers a lake where you can rent a pedal boat and go for a ride which was a nice way to end the day. There is also a restaurant available on site offering hot meals, sandwiches, snacks, and drinks. The restaurant is reasonably priced, two people can eat for under £15 which was surprising. Wreste Park House stands out for its rarity, with minimal furnishings and its upstairs section closed off. However, the grandiose rooms, designed in an opulent rococo style, boast breathtaking ceilings, intricate wallpapers, and shelves filled with books. The house was built by Thomas de Grey, 2nd Earl de Grey, an accomplished amateur architect who modeled it after an 18th-century French château. Although the scorching summer left its mark, we still found the gardens as engrossing as the house itself. This time, we didn’t venture to the Long Water, the Chinese Temple, or Thomas Archer’s remarkable Baroque pavilion, but we did visit the sculpture gallery hidden at the end of the house—it’s a must-see. Parking was hassle-free, and the cafeteria wasn’t particularly crowded.

Last year we visited the park but skipped the house as it was closed to the public due to filming for a few weeks. The property offers a rich historical experience and is definitely worth seeing. Each room preserves its original decor, though most are unfurnished. Many rooms feature paintings, and two contain stunning 18th-century Chinese wallpapers, accessible only with a guided tour. Steve, the volunteer guide, was incredibly enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and inspiring. The garden is exquisite and spacious, making it easy to spend an entire day exploring. The facilities are excellent, with picnic areas, a cafeteria, a play area, and ample parking. Additionally, you can shop for second-hand books, plants, souvenirs, and gifts.

A lovely place to visit. The house is fascinating with plenty of information about its history. The gardens and grounds are beautifully maintained. There’s a strong French influence in the design of both the house and gardens, making it worthwhile to take your time exploring. Don’t miss the statues, hunting lodge, and orangerie. The cafe, shop, and plant shop are great, with a 10% discount for English Heritage members. There’s also a spacious children’s play area and many activities. Highly recommended!

Great place to visit! We decided to do it last minute and felt it was well worth it. Being able to drive through all the enclosures was great fun (if a little scary for some kids). The park itself was great to visit and definitely worth a day visit.

Silsoe, Bedfordshire, MK45 4HR, UK Wrest Park comprises a grade I listed country house, gardens, a pavilion, canals, lakes, and orangery, a green house, a bath house, a fountain, and woodlands. A very enjoyable to visit Wrest Park, a lot to see and learn. The mansion was well preserved, though unfurnished, but the library was still there with all the books. One of the room was furnished with some replica furniture, so you can feel the vibe 200 years ago. The mansion was built 19th century, by its owner, who was also the first president of the Royal Institute of British Architects. It became a military hospital in World War I. Now there are some military uniforms provided in one of the rooms, so visitors can feel the historical vibe then. There's another room explains the old owners timeline and the family relationship with the Wrest Park. Coming out of the mansion, there's the stunning gardens and woodlands. Strolling through the gardens, there're statues, marble fountains, and also the Long Water, a lake with ducks, finally the pavilion, which you can go inside and climb up the stairs and admire the gardens from a higher point. If you are not exhausted after that, try to explore the woodlands surrounding the Park, where you can find the greenhouse, the Orangery, the Bowl House, the Bath House, the house with the antiques, the children play house, the pets graveyard, and several lakes. It takes at least a whole day to complete visiting everything in the park. A lot of car park spaces, no extra fee. There's also a cafe and a shop. Toilets next to the admission and also in the mansion. It is closed on Mon and Tue. This week, 7-15 March 2026, there's free admission with the National Lottery ticket. What a lovely day to take a sunny stroll around Bedford. The embankment with white geese and clear river waters, the path with beautiful shadows, and bright and shinny trees. You can just have a walk, running alone. You can have picnic together with friends. It’s also a wonderful place to do sports. Outdoor tennis courts, table tennis courts, football fields and mostly importantly rowing and kayaking.
