I thought I knew Brighton. Then I stayed until sunset. And suddenly the city completely changed. 🏰 First: Brighton feels almost unreal. Royal Pavilion looks like somebody dropped a royal fantasy palace beside the English seaside. Domes, minarets and incredible details — easily one of the most unexpected buildings I’ve photographed in England. 🌊 Then: Brighton becomes beautifully simple. No attraction. No itinerary. Just Brighton Beach, the sound of the sea, the pebble shoreline and a long walk towards Hove. This was probably my favourite part. 🌅 Finally: Brighton turns GOLD. Instead of leaving after seeing the main sights, I stayed for golden hour. The sunset reflected straight through the Victorian-style seafront architecture and suddenly an ordinary walk became the best photo moment of the trip. That’s my biggest Brighton tip: Don’t come here just to “see Brighton.” Give Brighton enough time to change. Morning for the streets and cafés. Afternoon for the Pavilion and Lanes. Evening for the beach. And sunset? Leave completely unplanned. 📸 THE PHOTO I WOULD NOT MISS: Find one of the ornate seafront shelters around golden hour and position yourself so the setting sun sits between the columns. A Little Walk Through Brighton ☕✨ | Streets, Shops & Coffee Sometimes the best part of a day out is simply walking around and seeing what you find along the way. 🤍 During our time in Brighton, we spent some time exploring the streets, taking in the beautiful buildings and looking at the different cafés, bakeries and little shops along the way. I love doing this when we visit somewhere — you get to see a completely different side of a place when you explore it on foot. 🚶♀️✨ As we walked, I filmed a few places that caught my eye from the outside, including Caffè Nero, Simit Palace (Turkish bakery) and a few shops. 🥯 ☕ There was such a nice mix of places around, and it was one of those walks where you can just take your time and see what looks interesting. After all that walking, we ended our little street explore with a stop at Caffè Nero for an iced coffee. ☕🤎 It was honestly such a simple part of our Brighton day, but sometimes these relaxed moments become some of my favourite travel memories. If you're visiting Brighton, I definitely recommend leaving some time in your plans just to walk around and explore the streets rather than rushing from one attraction to another. A Family Day Under Brighton Station 🚂 | Toy Trains, Star Trek & Childhood Memories We recently visited Brighton Toy & Model Museum as a family, and I loved seeing how much the girls enjoyed discovering all the little details! ❤️ The museum is tucked away beneath Brighton Station, so it feels like finding a hidden corner of the city. Inside, we explored model railways, dolls’ houses, vintage toys and miniature displays. The girls kept stopping to point things out, especially around the train tracks and Star Trek spaceship models—those were definitely their favourite parts of our visit! 🚂🚀 What made this outing special for me was that it wasn’t just fun for the children. We adults enjoyed it too. Seeing toys from different generations brought back childhood memories, while the detailed models gave us plenty to look at together. It was lovely to share an experience where all four of us found something interesting. The museum’s collection includes over 12,000 items, and its 60 Years of Star Trek exhibition features over 120 spaceship models. One of the places I was most excited to see around Melbourne was the Brighton Bathing Boxes. I had seen the colorful little beach huts countless times in photos, but standing in front of them in person was even more charming than I expected. Located along Brighton Beach, these historic bathing boxes line the shore facing Port Phillip Bay. By day it's all blue water, pebble beach and ice cream queues; by sunset the promenade lamps flick on and the whole seafront takes on a softer, golden glow. Here's a guide to seeing the best of it, based on a June visit. Start at the Seafront Memorial A good orientation point is the bronze winged angel memorial standing tall on its stone plinth near the seafront, just back from the promenade railings. It's a striking landmark with the sea as a backdrop, and the surrounding green is a popular spot for people to sit, picnic, or simply take in the view of the water. From here you're within easy walking distance of most of the seafront's main attractions. Walk the Pebble Beach Don't expect sand — Brighton's beach is famously made of smooth pebbles, which gives the whole experience a different texture (literally) to a typical British seaside trip. It's less about building sandcastles and more about the long walk along the shoreline, the sound of stones underfoot, and watching the water shift colour with the light. Looking west along the beach, you'll spot the ironwork skeleton of the old West Pier rising out of the sea — a burnt-out Victorian pier that's now one of Brighton's most photographed ruins, with Brighton Palace Pier visible in the distance behind it. The Promenade and the i360 Heading along the paved promenade towards the centre, you'll pass Brighton's elegant Victorian bandstand and catch sight of the British Airways i360 — the tall, slender observation tower that's become a modern symbol of the city, offering views out over the Channel from its viewing pod. If you're thinking about doing a day trip to Brighton, this is your sign to just book the train and go. I visited for the day and honestly had the best time wandering around without much of a plan. It’s one of those places where every street seems to have something going on, whether that’s cute independent shops, colourful buildings or people playing music by the seafront. The first stop has to be Brighton Palace Pier. It’s a bit touristy, sure, but in the best way. Grab some doughnuts, have a go on the arcade games or simply enjoy the sea breeze and watch the world go by. From there, head into The Lanes. I could’ve spent hours here. It’s full of quirky little boutiques, jewellery shops and cafés tucked away down narrow alleyways. Even if you’re not planning to buy anything, it’s worth exploring. One place I’d genuinely recommend stopping for food is Spring Cafe Brighton. It’s a lovely cosy spot with delicious food that feels homemade, and the owner was incredibly warm and welcoming. It ended up being one of my favourite parts of the day. If you’ve got time, take a stroll past the Royal Pavilion. It’s such an unexpected building and looks completely different from anything else in the city. The surrounding gardens are a nice place to sit for a bit if the weather’s playing nice. And of course, don’t skip the beach. Yes, it’s pebbles instead of sand, but there’s something really relaxing about sitting by the water with an ice cream or coffee, listening to the waves and watching the sunset if you stay late enough. A few extra places worth checking out are the colourful Brighton Beach Huts, the buzzing North Laine area for vintage shopping and street art, and the beachfront promenade if you fancy a longer walk.
