Caen is reachable from Paris directly with TER from St Lazare station. The city center was heavily destroyed during WWII and hence, only little remains from the old city. However, several sights are worth coming here for a day trip. L'abbaye aux hommes, which is a small but interesting visit, and the famous memorial of caen, about the WWII.

The Caen castle is one of the historic sights you'll visit during the Caen trip. When I visited there was quite a lot of renovation going on. We were told it's over a thousand years old. So, the preservation efforts are important and bound to be helpful for those who visit the site in the future. Besides the massive surroundings of this stone walled castle. You get to see the Caen art museum and the History museum. While some of the signs and inscriptions were in English, it still allows for appreciation of heritage artefacts. You get great views of the city from the ramparts. Perhaps, more information along the way and descriptions would help elevate the experience. Bring some water or something to snack on. You see Sunrise, you see sunsets, but have you ever watched a moon rise? This one over the water at Juno Beach, FL occured after a storm had taken place earlier that day. The clouds moved out and the moon was able to shine in all her glory. Just luminous. #happynewyear #happynewyear

Sunsets do not have to be colorful to be magestic. This sunset at Juno Beach in Florida can still make you appreciate nature. Juno Beach is a city of less than 4,000- so you get a feel of "Old Florida". It is a great place to visit with young children because they can play in the sand and surf. #happynewyear #happynewyear

Located in Palm County not too far from West Palm Beach, FL is Juno Beach. This is not as well known a location as some of the other beaches in Florida, but it is lovely just the same. Not usually crowded and parking is easy to find. #happynewyear #happynewyear

Up to 30 hours in France for £30 return. When I clicked on the ‘Offers’ menu on the Brittany Ferries website it seemed too good to be true, given the usual high prices for ferry travel. I can confirm, though, that this offer is completely for real! We sailed from Plymouth on a Saturday night (22:00) arriving in the port of Roscoff-Bloscon on Sunday morning; don’t miss the scenic approach to the port through a maze of jagged islets and doughty lighthouses. Roscoff is a beautiful little town 20 minutes from the port on foot (go right on exiting the ferry terminal, then right around the corner of the last port building to take the coastal footpath - more scenic than the road). Roscoff first starts to unveil its charms as the path winds past the tiny Saint Barbara’s chapel. Climb the steps to its promontory for a view of Roscoff’s pretty harbour, its sea-wall lined with an almost improbably pleasing row of buxom, pot-bellied fishing boats in picturebook primary colours. Roscoff does present me with an image problem: I just couldn’t wipe the dopey smile off my face when encountered with bright beaches of soft creamy sand, fine old richly-ornamented granite buildings, and rows of shops selling buttery, flaky delicacies, fine chocolates and tinned fish piled in patterns like a Roman mosaic, all accompanied by the happy humming and clinking of streetside bars and locals playing a game that seemed a bit like pétanque, but without the balls. As if that wasn’t enough, you can continue out through the far side of the town, take off your shoes to cross the sandy beach, collect the myriad different colours of periwinkle shells, and have a swim in one of the rugged outdoor lidos. We took the ferry service to the Ile de Batz, a quite frankly ridiculously picturesque little island batting far above its weight with its own botanical garden, lighthouse and craft brewery. Check the return ferry times carefully, though, because although you won’t want to leave, you’ll still need to leave enough time for the return walk from Roscoff to the port of Bloscon. Apart from Plymouth-Roscoff, the following itineraries are also covered by the £30 offer: · Portsmouth to Caen, Le Havre, Cherbourg or St Malo · Poole to Cherbourg You can also mix these routes to tailor-make your perfect short break.
