Calvia travel guide and discussion

1. 🏛 Palma de Mallorca The island's capital and the best place for culture, architecture, shopping and restaurants. Don't miss the Cathedral, Almudaina Palace and Bellver Castle. Best for: ⭐️ First-time visitors, couples, nightlife 2. 🌿 Valldemossa One of Mallorca's most beautiful mountain villages, surrounded by the Serra de Tramuntana. Its stone streets and historic monastery make it especially romantic. Best for: ❤️ Romance, photography, peaceful atmosphere 3. 🚂 Sóller & Port de Sóller A charming mountain town famous for its historic wooden train, orange groves and access to the sea. Best for: 🚂 Scenic trips, beaches, restaurants 4. 🏖 Alcúdia A beautiful historic town in northern Mallorca, close to some of the island's best beaches and coves. Best for: 🏖 Beach + old town + families 5. 🌊 Cap de Formentor One of Mallorca's most spectacular landscapes, with dramatic cliffs, Mediterranean views and the famous lighthouse. One trip to Mallorca barely scratches the surface. That’s probably the biggest reason I’d return. You can spend one visit enjoying Palma, its historic streets and waterfront, then come back and build an entirely different trip around beaches, mountain roads and small towns. The island can be whatever kind of destination you want it to be. There are days for swimming in incredibly clear Mediterranean water, evenings for wandering through Palma, and road trips into the Serra de Tramuntana when you want something completely different from the classic beach holiday. That variety makes Mallorca especially easy to revisit. You don’t have to repeat the same vacation twice. For me, the perfect return would combine a couple of days in Palma with a car and no overly strict plan for the rest of the island. Beach, city or mountains - what would bring you back to Mallorca? #Mallorca #PalmaDeMallorca #SpainTravel #Mediterranean #BalearicIslands #IslandLife #repeatdestination

Mallorca is often associated with summer beaches, but the island has another side: mountain villages, hidden coves, olive groves and beautiful Mediterranean roads. 📍 Palma — historic streets and restaurants 🏔️ Serra de Tramuntana — dramatic mountain scenery 🏖️ Cala Deià — tiny cove with turquoise water 🏡 Valldemossa — one of the island’s prettiest villages Best time: May–June & September–October. 🍋Hotels: €80–180/night 🍋Luxury: €300–700+ 🥘Try pa amb oli, sobrasada, fresh seafood and almond desserts. ✨ Rent a car and explore the northern coast instead of staying in one resort. #couplestrip

#easytravelpost Estellencs is a village at 400 m, start of the 2.5 km coastal path to Banyalbufar (or the shorter 1 km pine balcony to the cove). I took the TIB bus 212 from Palma (€3.50, 55 min), started the walk at 07:00 in May. The cliff moss is the pine balcony path: Hylocomium and Sphagnum in the Aleppo pine needle bed, Fissidens on the limestone outcrop where the path cuts, and the cliff above the cove has Metzgeria on the seep—the pines are 100 yrs old, the moss glows in the filtered light. I walked the 1 km to the cove at 07:30, the moss cool, a warbler in the pine, the sea flat. The path is free, no facilities—carry water. Mistake: I walked the full 2.5 km to Banyalbufar at noon and the sun was brutal—dawn or 16:00. Another: I wore flip-flops and the pine needles were slick; trail shoes. Would you walk Estellencs pine balcony for the cliff-moss cove at 07:00, or sit in the village and watch the Tramuntana mist?

On Mallorca, the landscape seems to exist in carefully balanced contrasts. Limestone mountains rise behind quiet coves. Ancient stone villages cling to hillsides above water so clear it barely seems real. Olive groves, citrus orchards, and winding coastal roads unfold beneath a light that feels unmistakably Mediterranean — bright, warm, and endlessly patient. Mallorca is not only beaches. It is texture. Morning markets scented with oranges and sea salt. Hidden calas carved into rugged coastlines. Monasteries resting high above the island, where the horizon opens into layers of mountain and sea without clear boundaries between them. Along the coast, the Mediterranean shifts through impossible shades — sapphire, turquoise, deep cobalt — while fishing boats drift lazily in sheltered bays that seem untouched by urgency. Inland, the pace changes again. Villages of pale stone and shuttered windows hold onto an older rhythm, where afternoons stretch long and conversations linger in shaded plazas. The island does not insist on adventure. It offers permission to slow down. To swim without checking the time. To sit by the sea until the light changes. To let an entire day dissolve into salt air, warm stone, and the soft repetition of waves against the shore. And perhaps that is Mallorca’s quiet secret. It feels expansive without being overwhelming. Luxurious without needing to prove it. 📍 Location: Mallorca, Spain ✈️ How to get there: Direct flights from major European cities to Palma de Mallorca Airport 🕰️ Best time: May–June and September–October for warm weather, clearer seas, and fewer crowds 💡 Travel tip: Explore beyond the beaches — mountain villages, scenic drives through the Serra de Tramuntana, and hidden coves reveal a very different side of the island. In Mallorca, the Mediterranean does not rush toward the horizon. It lingers — blue, sunlit, and entirely unhurried.

#bucketlistdestinations Before visiting Mallorca, it was easy to imagine it as simply another Mediterranean island for beaches and summer holidays. That seriously undersells it. Yes, the beaches and hidden coves are beautiful enough to justify the trip alone. But then you start exploring the island and realize how quickly the landscape changes. There are dramatic mountain roads through the Serra de Tramuntana, stone villages surrounded by green hills, coastal viewpoints and Palma with its enormous cathedral rising beside the sea. That's what put Mallorca firmly into bucket-list territory for me. I wouldn't have to choose between spending a trip on the beach or exploring - I could do both on the same day. And some of my favorite moments were simply driving around and stopping whenever the coastline or mountains became too beautiful to ignore. Mallorca gave me much more variety than I expected from one island. If you had a week here, would you spend most of it on the beaches or exploring the mountains and villages? #mallorca #spain #balearicislands #spaintravel #mediterranean

Chopin said, "I have found my dream Mediterranean." And he never left again. 🛫 Day 1: Palma Cathedral and Old Town 🌅 Arrive in Palma by plane from Barcelona or Madrid early morning (about 1-1.5 hours). Take a taxi straight from the airport to Palma Cathedral (La Seu), a Gothic-style ocean version, with renovations by Gaudí. The cathedral’s rose window is called the "Gothic Eye." At noon, sunlight streams through, casting colorful beams across the hall, like God descending. Next door is the Almudaina Palace, the summer residence of the Kings of Mallorca. 🍽️ At noon, dive into the Olivar Market in the old town, start with fresh oysters and sparkling wine, and share a paella for two. In the afternoon, stroll the cobblestone alleys of the old town, visit the Arab Baths—the only remaining Islamic relic—and enjoy coffee at Plaza Mayor while watching street performers. 🌃 At dusk, head to Bellver Castle, the only circular castle in Europe, perched on a hilltop. Watch the sunset over Palma Bay as the whole city is bathed in golden light. 🌊 Day 2: Northwest Coast - The Most Beautiful Driving Route 🌞 Rent a car in the morning and drive north along the Ma-10 road, one of Europe’s most beautiful coastal roads. First stop: Sóller, where a century-old wooden tram clatters from the port to the town. Valldemossa is the winter village of Chopin and George Sand; his piano remains in the monastery garden. 🍽️ For lunch, dine at C’an Costa next to Chopin’s former home—roast suckling pig and local sweet wine are must-tries. 🌊 In the afternoon, arrive at Formentor, the northwesternmost seaside town on the map. Climb the cliffs to see Sa Foradada, the "Pierced Rock." At sunset, the sun shines through the rock hole, and sailboats draw golden lines on the sea. 🚤 Day 3: Southeast Coast - Jelly Sea and Trendy Beaches 🌞 Head to Colònia de Sant Jordi in the morning, Mallorca’s most rustic seaside town. Take a boat to explore "Turkish Blue" (Caló des Moro), where the jelly-like sea is unrealistically blue. Nearby, "Witch Beach" (Cala Macarella) is surrounded by pine forests with clear water and fine sand. 🍽️ For lunch, enjoy a seafood barbecue on S’Amarador Beach (grilled squid, large shrimp, sardines), sitting on a beach mat with toes buried in the sand. 🌊 In the afternoon, visit Cala Figuera, a cliffside village. The Drach Caves (Coves del Drac) house the world’s largest underground lake, where classical concerts echo underground. Take a small boat through the caves, looking up at stalactites hanging like frozen waterfalls. ⛰️ Day 4: Tramuntana - Ridge Hiking and Farewell 🌞 Hike the Tramuntana Mountains (a World Heritage site) in the morning, starting from Escorca. The ridge trail has snowy peaks on one side and the deep blue Mediterranean on the other. Along the way, see ancient terraces, stone farmhouses, and hear the bells of grazing sheep. 🍽️ Have lunch in Fornalutx, known as Mallorca’s most beautiful village. Stone houses are covered with wisteria, and you can eat Mallorca bread with olive oil and tomato sauce under the old banyan tree in the square. 🌊 In the afternoon, visit the natural salt flats (Salines de Llevant), where salt piles look like snow mountains. At sunset, the salt ponds reflect the sky like a pink-purple magic mirror. Pack the blue, gold, and white of Mallorca into your memory and take it on the plane. ⛺ Must-Do Highlights · Palma Cathedral: Gaudí renovation + Gothic Eye rose window · Ma-10 Road: Most beautiful northwest coastal drive · Valldemossa: Chopin’s winter piano retreat · Caló des Moro: Turkish Blue jelly sea · Drach Caves: Underground lake classical concerts · Tramuntana Hiking: Snowy peaks on one side, sea on the other 🏨 Accommodation: Stay in Palma Old Town (convenient for food and drink) / Northwest Coast (stunning scenery) / Southeast Coast 🚇 Transportation: Flights to Palma from major Spanish cities (1-1.5 hours); strongly recommend renting a car to enjoy the coastal roads; boats can be rented for island beaches 🍽️ Must-Eats: Roast suckling pig, Spanish paella, fresh oysters, sweet wine, Mallorca bread 💡 Tips: Best time is May-June or September-October to avoid crowds in July-August; sunscreen + sunglasses + wide-brimmed hat are Mediterranean essentials; mountain goats cross slower than cars on mountain roads; some beaches require advance booking in July-August 🌟 In Mallorca, the Mediterranean blue is endless. Chopin found his dream, and you find yours. After Mallorca, all other seas feel just okay. Next time, come back when the apricot blossoms fill the valleys~👋

Hotel Samos is a great option if you want to stay in Magaluf and be close to all the fun, the beach, and the nightlife. 🌴🍹 The rooms are modern, clean, and comfortable, with balconies to enjoy the view. The location is amazing — just a short walk to the beach and the famous Magaluf strip. The pool area is lively with a great atmosphere, perfect if you like music, cocktails, and social vibes. 🎶🍸 I stayed here on a holiday trip and it was the perfect base to explore the island during the day and enjoy the nightlife in the evening. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Definitely a fun experience! 😃 If you’re planning to explore more of Mallorca, I recommend renting a car to discover the beautiful calas (small hidden beaches) around the island. The cobbled streets of Palma whisper history, while the shimmering coastline captures the essence of Mediterranean charm. From the rugged peaks of the Tramuntana mountains to the serene blue waters of hidden coves, each moment feels like a masterpiece waiting to be framed. Sunrise paints the sea in soft gold, and evenings glow with vibrant sunsets that linger on the horizon. Mallorca is more than a destination; it’s a story of culture, nature, and endless inspiration—seen and remembered through my lens.

#summerdestinations My summer vacation on Palma de Mallorca was unforgettable! 🌞🏝️ The island offers a perfect blend of vibrant city life and stunning natural beauty. Palma, the island’s capital, is a bustling city with charming streets, lively markets, and beautiful architecture. The Palma Cathedral, with its Gothic grandeur and stunning views of the sea, is a must-see. The beaches on Palma de Mallorca are fantastic. Cala Major and Playa de Palma are great spots for soaking up the sun and enjoying the Mediterranean waters. Palma de Mallorca is a fantastic destination for relaxation, exploration, and soaking in the island's rich culture and scenery. #trip #PalmaDeMallorca #MediterraneanEscape #IslandAdventure #BeachLife #HistoricalSites

The entertainment team was absolutely outstanding. They were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and funny. In all our years of traveling, we've never been so impressed by such kindness and hospitality. They made sure to engage with everyone, creating a very inclusive atmosphere—we truly can't thank them enough. If Daniel, Pierre, and Selma are here next year, we would definitely return without hesitation. Thank you for giving us the best 10 days. You’re a true credit to the hotel, and everyone loves you! xxx

Just returned from a week at Alua Calvia with my daughter. I would definitely recommend this hotel. We chose bed and breakfast, and there was a great variety of food. The location, sea views, and the entertainment team were fantastic. The daily activities they organized were excellent, and the team was very enthusiastic. Overall, our stay was wonderful, and I would definitely visit again.

My mum and I had a relaxing 5-night stay at Tent Palmanova. The reception, breakfast area, and pool were lovely. The rooms were small but great overall. As mentioned in other reviews, the walls are thin—I was woken a few times by noise from the corridor or neighboring rooms. Despite that, I would highly recommend the hotel. The staff were friendly, and the luggage storage was convenient for early arrivals and late flights. Located near a bus stop, it offers easy routes to the airport and Palma. Palmanova had a vibrant atmosphere and plenty of nice restaurants. Breakfast was good and served from 8 to 1:30.

Fabulous hotel, we absolutely loved it. Situated right on the beach with two pools. The staff are incredible and go above and beyond for guests. My husband has mild dementia—though I didn’t mention it, the staff instinctively recognized it. They were so professional, treating him with patience and respect despite his cognitive challenges—thank you to the whole team. Our sea-facing room was beautiful, and we enjoyed watching the Harvest Moon rise from the balcony. One morning, I took a sunrise swim—it was utterly sublime. The room’s tea, coffee, and snack setup is a masterpiece—you’ll understand if you stay. The bed was super comfortable, and the breakfast was stunning. This hotel is totally amazing. A huge thank you to all the wonderful staff who made our stay so happy!

Just returned from a lovely week at this hotel. We love Palmanova, but this place was much cheaper and just as enjoyable. Next time, we’d opt for a private transfer since the coach made 10 stops before reaching the hotel, which took about 1.5 hours. The hotel is in a good location, only 10 minutes from the beach. Unfortunately, the pool area doesn’t get sun until midday. Breakfast had plenty of variety, although we wished there was a microwave as the buffet wasn’t very hot. The staff were incredibly friendly—from the bar staff to the front desk. The air conditioning worked well for the first few days but then started blowing warm air, though we didn’t raise a complaint. Palma city is just 30 minutes away by bus, and Palmanova is only 10 minutes by taxi at a cost of €15. You can request a kettle for your room at reception. Drinks are €4 a pint, and payments are credit card-only or can be charged to your room and settled at the end of your stay. This hotel offers great value for money, and we would gladly return!

Stayed for 5 days at Fergus Hotel. Received a very warm welcome from Tony upon arrival. The hotel was clean and enjoyable, with a varied cuisine. The staff were friendly and spoke French. Entertainment was provided by the amazing Gabriel – especially loved his dart games, though they might need a new target board soon! 😂 Overall, a great stay! – Marie and JC

The hotel is very nice with a delightful breakfast and a friendly staff. The massage at their spa was outstanding. However, a downside is that to secure a sunbed by the pool, you have to be there around 9 - 9:30 am. Towels are left to reserve spots, despite notices stating they will be removed within 45 minutes if unused, which never actually happens. If you arrive at the pool midday or later, finding a spot is very difficult and frustrating, especially if you plan to explore more than just the pool during the day.

Just returned from an amazing 2-week vacation. The rooms were excellent and kept spotless by the wonderful housekeeping team. The reception staff were kind and extremely helpful. And what can I say about Alex from the entertainment team? Such an incredible person, full of energy, and completely unaware of just how talented he is. The location is perfect—right next to the beach, with all rooms offering a breathtaking ocean view.

We’ve stayed at several hotels in Palma Nova before, and this one had amazing value and great reviews, so we decided to try it. The best thing about the hotel was its location—perfectly situated near the beach and close to the main bars and restaurants in Palma Nova. It’s also just a 15-minute walk to Magaluf. We booked a garden room studio and arrived late at night. The man at reception wasn’t very friendly during check-in. We were given room 115, which, upon entering, had a very strong damp smell. Since it was so late, we went straight to bed. The next morning, we complained, and the man at reception was incredibly helpful, moving us immediately to room 109, which was much better. He also offered us two free drink vouchers, which we appreciated. Later that day, we discovered the air conditioning in the new room had been leaking, leaving a massive puddle on the floor. We informed reception again, and they promptly sent a fan and assured us it would be fixed the next morning. They also gave us two additional drink vouchers. These were minor inconveniences, but the staff handled them quickly and well. The pool area was always extremely busy—we never saw a free sunbed. Fortunately, we had sunbeds on our terrace. The pool itself was lovely, with a relaxing atmosphere. The pool bar was affordable, with cheap food and drinks. The downside was that the rooms were quite noisy, with thin walls, and we could hear people upstairs using the bathroom. We also encountered a massive cockroach in our bathroom one night, but that’s not something we can directly blame the hotel for. Overall, we’d recommend this place for its cheap prices, cheerful vibe, and excellent location, but we probably wouldn’t stay here again.

Lovely and clean hotel. The food was great with plenty of variety. The staff was incredibly friendly. The animation team was fantastic, offering activities for everyone—the aqua gym was amazing. A very kind and approachable hostess, Ina, who was extremely helpful. The beach was delightful, with areas of partial shade.

While enjoying our final meal, we reflected on an absolutely amazing stay. Once again, the team provided an exceptional experience from start to finish. Alex handled our check-in expertly, with Carla, the Assistant Front Desk Manager, ensuring the process was seamless and smooth. We chose the Level experience, and it exceeded expectations. The dedicated team made us feel special and truly welcomed. The hour of complimentary drinks and food was a delightful touch, adding extra charm to our stay. The private breakfast area also made a significant difference. The rooms were fantastic, featuring a bathtub with a stunning view and Rituals amenities included. They were impeccably cleaned every day by the housekeeping team. We also enjoyed activities like water aerobics and water cycling, while my son had a great time with water games and the floating mat. The team remained professional and welcoming throughout. We plan to return with 11 others next year, as we genuinely have no faults to mention. I highly recommend the Level experience for its value and VIP treatment. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay unforgettable—see you next year!

Currently staying here with my daughter. We arrived at 11am and were greeted at the desk; although check-in was supposed to be at 3pm, they told us the room was ready, and we could go straight up! The room is spacious, clean, and has a balcony with a pool view. Breakfast, which is the typical all-inclusive variety, is served until 12pm, perfect for doubling as lunch, too! There’s plenty of space around the pools, which are clean but a bit cold. The location is fantastic—close to everything! You can see the beach from the room, and there are bars, restaurants, and clubs nearby. The staff has been absolutely lovely. I’d recommend Turtle Beach and Zen Bar for food. I was a bit worried about noise based on some reviews, but it hasn’t been much of an issue, just a couple of rowdy folks on night one. The only downside, although unrelated to the hotel itself, was a group of guests being loud and disrespectful to staff—seriously, grown men swearing at a young female bartender? Not okay. Overall though, 5 stars from me, and I’d definitely return!

The hotel is fantastic—extremely clean, and the staff are absolutely phenomenal, always ready to help. It's perfect for families with kids, featuring two wonderful pools and even a spa for relaxation. The pool staff, including Vanesa, Javi, Carlos, and Lourdes, are incredibly kind and welcoming. Highly recommended!

Heading home after our second stay at this fantastic hotel! We decided to return because of the wonderful experience we had last time. Ania welcomed us warmly and even remembered us from last year, ensuring we had a lovely room. Later, we were greeted by Manuel, the head chef, whose kindness with my food intolerances had stood out previously—he remembered me from last year and went out of his way to make us feel at home. Maria in the restaurant also recognized us and made sure we had an excellent time dining. I have to say, their memories really amazed me—perhaps it’s my pink hair! Seeing both Manuel and Maria every day was a sincere pleasure as they were incredibly welcoming. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and lovely. Our room was spotlessly clean, and we felt well provided for to ensure a fantastic stay. We’re already booking our third visit for next September! This place is immaculately clean, with staff constantly maintaining its pristine condition. There’s never a scramble for poolside spaces either. I’ve never felt more welcomed than here. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Mar Senses Rosa del Mar—you’re all amazing, and I cannot wait to see you next year! 🩷

This hotel boasts a quirky, modern vibe with cool and funky elements, but it has its drawbacks. Breakfast is served in the "food factory," an odd name for a premium hotel, and the experience was underwhelming—the food was cold, and the breakfast room felt uninviting and overcrowded. It would be great to have outdoor dining facing the stunning sea instead of the roadside. The rooms are immaculate and stylish, though missing essentials like a kettle and speaker, and our promised sea view was really more of a side sea view. We did enjoy the pool area, and while most staff were okay, a few came across as rude. The food quality was excellent, and the drinks impressed us. However, the biggest letdown was witnessing prime poolside beds left empty as they were reserved for "premium paying day guests." This felt unfair and disappointing, especially considering the cost of our stay. On the positive side, the hotel's location is fantastic—Magaluf is a hidden gem with plenty of appealing bars and restaurants, as long as you steer clear of the strip if that's not your scene. It’s nice overall, but we won’t be returning.

Stayed for a week in room 845 with a side sea view. Like any hotel, there were pros and cons. The location is excellent, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The lifts are fast, and the towel exchange system, where you can swap towels for free after a £10 deposit, is a nice touch. However, there were a few issues. The shower pressure in room 845 was very weak, and the thermostat had no temperature markings, so it was hard to set. One of the three electric sockets didn't work; although we reported it to the front desk, no one came to fix it. We brought an extension cord, so it wasn’t a big inconvenience, but this shouldn't be overlooked. The main drawback was during meal times. The wait staff had to double up by covering the bar and cleaning tables, leaving us to clear our plates and set our own tableware. After six days and 18 meals, it became clear they needed more staff for better efficiency. Despite these issues, the hotel was very quiet and relaxing, though it is predominantly catered to a German-oriented crowd.

This was our third and best stay at the beautiful Glabales Cala Vinas Hotel. We were greeted warmly by the friendly staff upon arrival. Although our room wasn’t ready due to our early flight, we were able to store our luggage and enjoy all the hotel facilities in the meantime. The hotel is spotless, with the cleaning team working tirelessly to maintain its high standards—everything smells amazing as soon as you walk in. Having stayed on three different levels, the rooms seem similar across the building. While they could use some sprucing up, they’re clean and provide a comfortable stay. This year, we were on the 8th floor, and the air conditioning was fantastic! However, I think offering free safes and pool towels would enhance the experience, particularly for guests paying for the VIP package. It’s worth considering for next year. The food was excellent, and the restaurant and kitchen staff were equally impressive. There’s a wide variety to suit everyone’s tastes. As for the drinks, we found the selection acceptable and didn’t mind paying €6.50 for our mojitos and piña coladas, which were fantastic. While we didn’t expect everything to be included in the all-inclusive package, some guests may prefer a dispenser machine with soft drinks, wine, and beer to reduce queues—especially for those waiting long periods just for soft beverages. The pools—indoor, outdoor, and VIP—were very clean. The only downside was that some sunbeds were torn or ripping, requiring us to fetch replacements on occasion. While it didn’t bother us, we did hear a few complaints from other guests. Nonetheless, every staff member across the hotel was exceptional. The location is stunning, with incredible views and easy access to the sea, making for an enhanced stay. The proximity to the beach offers fantastic snorkeling opportunities, just a few steps away. The hotel truly provides a relaxing experience and now feels like a second home to us. We had an amazing 10-day stay and have already booked for next year. A big thank you to the entire team for making this year’s holiday extra special. With continued improvements, we believe this place could genuinely achieve 5-star status. See you next year—we can’t wait! 🥰
