Hotel Honucai: A Quality Escape in Majorca
This hotel is "quality" in every aspect – quality decor, quality rooms, quality staff, quality restaurant, quality food, and even a quality rooftop. The seafront location is also fabulous, especially if you're looking for a true escape. Deciding on where to stay in Majorca can be challenging, and we took a chance without being completely sure what to expect. Thankfully, Hotel Honucai exceeded all expectations.
Although we aren’t sure exactly when it was refurbished, I’d guess around two years ago because it feels fresh, stylish, and subtly vibrant. The interior design deserves an award, seamlessly combining chic nautical, rustic, and contemporary aesthetics into a welcoming retreat. Our standard room felt spacious, and we suspect it might have been upgraded to a superior, as there was space for an extra single bed. While we couldn't budget for a sea view, the room was delightful, and we were very satisfied.
The hotel felt a bit pricey for us, especially since we booked just a week before the trip, but it turned out to be worth it. Prices later in August were cheaper than what we paid in June. Compared to other similar hotels, it wasn’t excessively expensive – another option was almost twice the price! Despite the cost, we felt we got incredible value for money.
We went half board, spending £50 extra per night for two people. Initially, we debated this option, considering dinner prices in nearby restaurants, but the hotel's a la carte dinner absolutely impressed us. The chef clearly takes pride in his work, creating nightly specials that made choosing meals exciting. It wasn’t buffet-style, which was a relief, and there was plenty of variety. Dining on the terrace, directly overlooking the promenade, was delightful, with classy furniture and decor adding to the experience.
The nearby beach was lovely, but we noticed people heading farther along the path to Es Dolc beach, which had an even prettier outlook. Inspired to explore, we continued walking and reached Es Carbo, an extraordinary beach resembling the Caribbean with stunning clear-water views and a perfect horizon. Although Es Trenc is often recommended, locals claimed Es Carbo was better, so we skipped the former.
The rooftop terrace at the hotel was just as enjoyable, offering breathtaking views. We balanced our time between its charm and relaxing on the beaches nearby. The resort itself is small, largely populated by families with young children, couples, and groups of friends. It’s an international mix – English, German, Spanish, French – and not a lively party destination, making it ideal for a peaceful getaway.
During our stay, we also took the bus to Santanyi for the market, which was bustling and enjoyable, with trendy shops and artist studios. The hotel’s beach pack rental, including an umbrella, snacks, and drinks for €20, was a useful option, though buying an extra umbrella proved necessary for enough shade. Sunbeds at the beaches cost €23 for two and a parasol, which was reasonable.
This location is perfect for relaxation and exploration, far removed from the busier, more commercial parts of Majorca. Bus travel, which we used to get to and from the airport, was modern, reliable, and a great money-saver compared to taxis.
Hotel Honucai offered a unique and refreshing escape, and I would definitely return for more R&R. The beaches were among the best I’ve experienced in Europe. Highly recommended!
