Chuo Ward travel guide and discussion

If you want to experience the slow-paced city life and love snapping Insta-worthy photos, Fukuoka's "Ohori Park" is a must-visit destination! This park is not only perfect for a leisurely stroll but also hides a viral hotspot—the Fukuoka Art Museum, where a massive pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama is waiting for your photo ops! 😆 Today, I’ll show you around. Even if you know nothing about art, you'll be drawn in by its quirky charm. 📍 Must-Do & Must-Capture Highlights in Fukuoka's Ohori Park Ohori Park (1 Ohorikoen, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, 810-0051, Japan - Park Management Office) is open 24/7 all year round. Getting there is super easy—just a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Ohorikoen Station on the Fukuoka Subway. The park features a massive lake in the center, and along the lakeside trail, you'll find classic Japanese bridges, teahouses, romantic cedar groves, and expansive green lawns. It's the perfect spot for couples, friends, or solo travelers to enjoy a laid-back vibe. But the absolute highlight for me is the Fukuoka Art Museum inside the park. Right at the main entrance, you’ll spot a must-see for pumpkin fans: Yayoi Kusama’s giant pumpkin sculpture. It’s a top-tier photo spot highly recommended by tons of IG influencers! 🎨 Yayoi Kusama’s Giant Pumpkin at the Ohori Park Art Museum The museum is located on the west side of the park. As soon as you enter the area, your eyes will be glued to that huge yellow polka-dot pumpkin. The morning or evening backlighting makes it perfect for close-up portraits! There are other modern sculptures nearby, but almost everyone gathers around this iconic giant pumpkin 😂. My thoughts: Honestly, I’m a total amateur when it comes to modern art, but Yayoi Kusama’s work just has this mysterious and whimsical magic. It’s perfect for people of all ages and personalities to just chill for an afternoon! 🧳 Practical Guide · The park is flat and easy to walk on, making it incredibly friendly for kids and seniors! · Highly recommend bringing some snacks for a picnic; there are designated lawns where you can sit and relax. · Museum hours: Generally 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM (closed on Mondays). Admission fees vary for themed collections, and there are irregular special exhibitions. However, the pumpkin sculpture is outside the museum, so you can check it out and take photos for free anytime! · Pro tip: Visit on weekdays between 8:00–10:00 AM or after 2:00 PM for fewer crowds and the best lighting~ · Make sure your phone/camera is fully charged! You won’t be able to resist snapping photos of the stunning scenery and cute birds! · For extra chill vibes, drop by the Japanese teahouse inside the park. Sipping matcha while gazing at the lake is so therapeutic. 🚃 Getting There Take the Subway Kuko Line from JR Hakata Station. It takes just 7 minutes to reach "Ohorikoen Station," and you’ll enter the park right after scanning out. The park area is huge, so you can easily explore nearby spots like the Fukuoka Castle Ruins and Maizuru Park. The route is super seamless. 🍵 Food Recommendations After your walk, you can visit the Japanese teahouse next to the park or a popular nearby cafe called "Café Bimi." It’s a hidden gem loved by locals—their cakes are famous, and the matcha latte art gives off a serene Zen vibe. 📌 Quick Tip: Yayoi Kusama’s giant pumpkin is located right outside the art museum, so you can take photos anytime without a ticket. Take a lap around the park's lake on a sunny day, and your chances of capturing perfect photos with flawless lighting are 100%!

Got to eat King Crab in Osaka‼️ I was so stuffed I practically had to roll out of there... I was absolutely blown away😱 the moment it hit the table! 🦀️ Massive size! The crab legs are actually longer than my arm The gleaming white crab meat literally had me mesmerized🤤 One bite and it's incredibly fresh and sweet! Now this is what you call a real, zero-starch crab stick! There's zero need to be classy when eating this kind of crab, scarfing it down is the highest form of respect🫡 🥩 Aside from the star-of-the-show crab, the Wagyu shabu-shabu was also out of this world! That delicate snowflake marbling tells you right away it’s no mere side character✨ It melts in your mouth with a buttery richness. After the fresh sweetness of the crab, the savory fat of the beef stands out even more! 🍤 Tempura, unagi don, and all kinds of sushi🍣 Every single dish is loaded with super generous portions‼️ The value for money here is just insane👍 📍 Location Info: Osaka Kani Gin Namba Branch ECS 32nd Bldg 7F-B, 3 Chome-4-16 Namba, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0076, Japan

Hamarikyu was one of those places where I kept noticing the background almost as much as the garden itself. In front of you are ponds, old pine trees, little bridges and a traditional teahouse; look slightly higher and modern Tokyo's glass towers are sitting directly behind them. That contrast was what made the garden more interesting to me than simply having another green space in the itinerary. The central pond is actually connected to Tokyo Bay, so its water level changes with the tide, something I hadn't encountered in Tokyo's other gardens. There's also a teahouse sitting out on the pond if you want to stop for matcha rather than continuously walking. Adult admission is only ¥300, so this is an easy place to add without turning it into a major planned attraction. I'd choose a bright day the combination of water, greenery and skyscrapers photographs particularly well. #citybreakvsnatureescape #hamarikyugardens #thingstodo #tokyo

I never imagined my first movie experience in a Japanese cinema would be this film, *Gikawa: The Secret of Mermaid Island*! 🎬 TOHO Cinema has a pop-up shop in Nihonbashi where you can buy movie-related merchandise. I highly recommend the stained glass bookmarks ✨ The program booklet is also worth collecting! I had asked a friend to help me buy advance tickets, so I received a folder and a card. Plus, they gave out mini plush toys upon entry, and I won Bunny Boy and Momonga (੭ ˙ᗜ˙ )੭ I also successfully got a Chill Boy popcorn cone 🍿. Even the shopping mall where you watch a movie has decorations related to the film 🏝️ . . 『Eiga Chiikawa POP UP STORE in TOHO Cinemas』 📅Dates: July 10 - August 31, 2026 📍Location: 3F, 2-3-1 Nihonbashi Muromachi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo (*Besides Nihonbashi, there are 24 other TOHO Cinemas with POP UP STOREs)

If you're looking for a refreshing experience in Tokyo, the Art Aquarium Museum in Ginza is definitely worth considering. I gave the attraction a solid 4 out of 5 for its place on Trip.Best’s Top 50 Best Things to Do in the Kanto Region list—a unique museum that offers great fun and sightseeing, with a touch of Japanese artistic flair and mesmerizing goldfish displays. 🤩 Conveniently located at 4-6-16 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo (9th floor entrance Mitsukoshi Shinkan), accessibility is a breeze thanks to direct public transportation connections and reasonably priced parking. The museum's information and hours are accurate, and I found the reasons for its ranking on the list to be comprehensive and precise. Would I recommend it to friends? Absolutely! My experience was memorable in many ways—the museum provided a cool escape from Tokyo’s summer heat, and the fusion of Japanese art and dazzling goldfish exhibits was both relaxing and visually stunning. Practical tips for your visit: I highly recommend arriving in the morning to avoid crowded spaces since the museum isn’t particularly large. 🌅 This will give you a more leisurely and comfortable experience. Take your time to enjoy the beautiful installations and snap a few photos for lasting memories. One of my favorite moments was capturing a snapshot near the vibrant goldfish tanks—a reminder of the tranquil ambiance of the Art Aquarium Museum. #tripbest #tripbest _reviewer

I happened to wake up early, so I decided to go to this cafe to get some morning action ☕️ They have three stores in the nearby areas of Higashi-Nihonbashi, Hamacho, and Kuramae. They open from 7am, and there was a wide variety of snacks like sandwiches on display! They have two sizes of coffee, and they were a good deal for the price because they were a large size 💙 The Higashi-Nihonbashi store also has terrace seating, so I'd like to enjoy a relaxing cafe time on the terrace when it gets a little cooler ☺️ 📍 SQUARE Cafe Higashi-Nihonbashi Main Store Address: 2-16-7 Higashi-Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo Business Hours: Monday-Friday 7am-7pm Saturday-Sunday 9am-7pm #TokyoTourism#777 #Cafe #Tokyo #Higashi-Nihonbashi

· Name Menya Hisashi · Access 3-3-9 Nihonbashi Kayabacho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo 🚗Use nearby parking · Points Actually, this was my first time trying ramen that is said to be Jiro-style😅 The noodles are from Kaikaro in Asakusa The flavor is concentrated with dark soy sauce The photo shows the bean sprouts and normal garlic I only ordered the extra-large portion, but I'm not sure I could eat it all... There are about 10 seats at the counter, The noodles are thick so they take a while to boil, but I think the turnover rate is fast In conclusion, it was delicious😊 The char siu was especially delicious I'd like to come back when I want to eat something hearty or get energized #Tokyo #Gourmet #Ramen

I visited Brothers, a hamburger shop near Ningyocho Station. I love hamburgers and have tried many different places, but this is the best so far. The patty is full of meat juice, and the texture and flavor are excellent. In addition, balance is key in a hamburger, and this one is wonderfully well-made with every part being just as good as the meat. #cafehopping #triplucky2022 #gourmettrip

I visited Fruit Chef, a fruit cafe in Nihonbashi. They serve parfaits made with plenty of seasonal fruits. The staff are full of love for fruit and will carefully explain the day's recommendations. I don't usually order citrus parfaits, but this one looked so delicious that I had to order it. It was just the right amount of sweet and sour, and I'm so glad I ordered it. ✨ I'd love to visit again in a different season. #gourmet #cafe

Growth Link Kachidoki A childcare support facility located in Kachidoki, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, that focuses on creating a "community" by involving local residents of various ages, primarily children and families. It's located in the shared space of the Kachidoki Tower Mansion. Although the indoor facility says "Anyone can play," it appears to be a paid facility requiring membership registration. It's best to check the details on the official website beforehand. I passed by and saw an outdoor drawing board for the first time. #Tokyo

🥢 Tunshe Hot Pot & Malatang 📍 Shinsaibashi, Osaka (2 min walk from Nagahoribashi Station) My order: ・Malatang 📝 Malatang lets you build your own custom bowl exactly how you like it 🌶️ It starts at a base price of 350 yen, and you just add your favorite toppings from there. With over 40 ingredients to choose from—including a huge variety of noodles, meats, veggies, and fish cakes—you’re spoiled for choice! Instead of picking items into a bowl yourself, you order via a QR code 📱. This is great because you can see your total as you go, so you won’t accidentally overspend! 🙆‍♀️ Here’s what I picked: ・Corn noodles ・Pork belly ・Shimeji mushrooms ・Komatsuna (mustard spinach) ・Lotus root ・Pumpkin ・Crab sticks ・Fish balls with roe ・Sesame sauce ✨ I also added free green onions and garlic as toppings. The total for this feast was 1,500 yen ☺️ You can choose from 5 spice levels, ranging from Level 1 to 4. I went with Level 2 🌶️ I usually like spicy food, but Level 2 was surprisingly kicky! However, the sesame sauce added a lovely creaminess that balanced the heat perfectly. ♡ The broth was exactly my type. It wasn’t just hot; it was packed with umami. I couldn't stop myself from drinking it all ☺️ The corn noodles had a great bouncy texture that soaked up the soup perfectly 🌽 With all the pork belly and veggies, it was much more filling than it looked! I loved being able to add my favorites like pumpkin and lotus root. My absolute must-have topping for Malatang? Fish balls with roe! The pop of the roe inside the bouncy fish ball is the best ♡. I order these every single time 🙆‍♀️ Level 2 was good, but halfway through I felt like I could handle more heat, so I’m trying Level 3 next time 🌶️ They also have Sichuan pepper oil, black vinegar, and sesame oil on the table so you can tweak the flavor as you eat. Since you can customize the ingredients, spice, and toppings, every visit feels like a new experience ✨. I can’t wait to come back and try a different combo! ☺️ . . . . The shop has counter and table seating, plus private rooms upstairs. It’s right near Nagahoribashi Station and has a very welcoming vibe, even if you’re dining solo. . . . . 📌 1-8-3 Higashishinsaibashi, Chuo Ward, Osaka ⏱ 11:30 - 22:00 🗓 Open daily . . . .

If there’s one spot that totally captures Osaka’s wild energy, it’s gotta be Dotonbori! This place is loud, colorful, buzzing with people, and just a bit chaotic—in the best possible way. Especially after sunset, Dotonbori absolutely pops off: the entire district explodes with neon signs and billboards lighting up along the canal, creating major main-character vibes. The most iconic landmark? No doubt, the giant Glico Running Man sign. But trust me, Dotonbori is way more than just one famous billboard. Look up and spot massive, glowing crabs, bright dragons, playful octopuses, and all sorts of over-the-top restaurant decorations practically screaming for your attention. The reflections of those neon lights on the water? Unreal. It’s hands-down one of the most photogenic scenes in all of Osaka—bring your camera or your TikTok bestie for some 🔥 content. Let’s talk food, because Dotonbori is STACKED with must-try eats. It’s street-food paradise here. You can’t walk two steps without spotting takoyaki stands (those legendary octopus balls being flipped right in front of you—sooo good!). And that’s just the start—crush some okonomiyaki (savory pancakes), kushikatsu (deep-fried everything), soul-warming ramen, fresh sushi, and a whole world of Japanese desserts. Pro tip: Arrive hungry and wear comfy pants. Honestly, one of the best things to do is just wander—no plan needed! Stroll the narrow streets, cross the bridges, people-watch like a pro, and keep your eyes peeled for crazy, Instagrammable signs. The whole place feels like someone mashed up a street-food festival, a night market, and the set of a neon-drenched movie. If you want the full Dotonbori experience, you NEED to come in the evening. During the day, it’s cool, but after dark? Boom—the area transforms, the neon reflections explode across the water and it’s pure Osaka magic. The atmosphere is electric. A lil’ heads up: Yes, Dotonbori gets super crowded. But honestly, that’s a big part of the thrill! Don’t expect peaceful, traditional Japan here—instead, get ready for pure sensory overload, tons of energy, tasty treats, and a wild crowd. If it’s your first time in Osaka, consider Dotonbori totally unmissable. Even if you’ve been before, a walk by the glowing canal at night always hits different—it’s classic Osaka, through and through. Basics for your visit: · Address: Dotonbori, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0071, Japan · Nearest station: Namba Station (Midosuji Line) – just a short walk away! · Best time to visit: After sunset for peak neon vibes · Free to walk around, 24/7 (some restaurants have their own hours) · Pro tip: Book a stay nearby on trip.com for epic night strolls and easy street food runs! If you live for old-school entertainment and love that nostalgic 80s and 90s aesthetic, THE SILVER BALL PLANET in Osaka is absolutely mind-blowing! This isn’t just your average arcade; it’s a time machine located on the 3rd floor of the iconic Shinsaibashi BIG STEP mall (1-6-14 Nishishinsaibashi, Chuo Ward, Osaka), right in the heart of the city's coolest district. Stepping inside feels like walking through a portal. You’re greeted by flashing lights, classic mechanical clinks, and retro tunes—it’s like stepping straight into a movie from your childhood. The vibe is legit: the machines are so authentic that the nostalgia hits you the moment you walk in. Many are even themed after legendary movies, musicians, and pop culture icons. Best of all, it’s not a museum—you just drop a coin and start playing. Pure arcade magic! 🎮✨ For me, it’s not just about the pinball; it’s about the entire atmosphere. It’s got that raw, cool energy: the metal balls, the tactile levers, the neon glow, and that rush of adrenaline as you chase a high score. Trust me, you won’t be able to stop at just one game—you’ll be reaching for another coin before you know it. It’s a total arcade trance that leaves you feeling energized and happy. Every single machine is a work of art. The design and attention to detail are incredible. Even if you aren’t a pinball pro, just find a machine that catches your eye and give it a whirl. I guarantee you’ll be hooked for at least an hour! THE SILVER BALL PLANET fits perfectly into any Osaka itinerary.
