The electric bike I shipped from Hangzhou has finally arrived. Taking advantage of the approaching winter, I went on an impromptu ride. The lakeside trail at Kalamalka Lake is peaceful and leisurely, very healing, so much so that I didn’t notice my hat was lost. On the way back, I was pleasantly surprised to find my hat hanging on a tree branch. I believe a kind person found it and hung it there to help me retrieve it. This happy recovery added a special touch to the ride. At different times of the year, the lake’s water color changes from turquoise to indigo, and different parts of the lake show different colors at the same time, which is why the lake is known as the "Lake of a Thousand Colors." The color of the water comes from light scattering caused by carbonate deposits. Everything created by God is very beautiful. With a heart full of reverence, I am grateful that He allows us to glimpse His perfect creation.

#mytraveldiary Kalamalka Lake is a large glacial lake in the Southern Interior of BC, about 4 km south of Vernon. Size: ~ 16 km long, up to ~ 3 km wide. Maximum depth ≈ 142 m. Elevation: ~ 392 m. Part of its appeal is that it’s a “marl lake” — in warm weather, dissolved calcium carbonate forms crystals that reflect light, producing vivid turquoise/cyan/green colours. When cooler, colours change. Provincial Park / Natural Setting Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park and Protected Area covers ~ 978 hectares. The park includes a mix of ecosystems: grasslands, wetlands, canyons, forests — ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, and others. Wildlife: deer, coyotes, black bears, foxes, reptiles (rattlesnakes, painted turtles etc.), many bird species.
