Honestly, I thought you could only find this kind of scenery overseas, but with the recent opening of an abandoned quarry, a new spot has emerged in Korea where you can enjoy truly exotic views. This is a quarry located in Gachang, Daegu. Because the water is incredibly deep at around 30 meters, you can see a striking emerald water color 🩵 The harmony between the surrounding rocky cliffs, the trees, and the sky creates an absolutely spectacular view :) When you visit in person, the color of the water is so mesmerizing and beautiful that you just can't take your eyes off it. Admission is free, so you can visit without any hesitation, and there are plenty of great spots to take photos all around, making it a truly healing experience! Dookki Tteokbokki Hot Pot has actually opened branches in Taiwan, but I've never tried it there. I figured if I was going to have it, I might as well enjoy the most authentic version right here in South Korea. Dookki is a famous all-you-can-eat Korean tteokbokki hot pot restaurant. The brand's core concept is exactly what its Korean name implies: First Meal: Start by enjoying a delicious tteokbokki hot pot. Second Meal: Use the leftover broth, add white rice, seaweed, kimchi, and other toppings to make fried rice. After eating, you'll be so full and satisfied that it truly feels like you've eaten two meals in one. The restaurant offers a variety of sauces and rice cakes for customers to mix and match to their liking. There is also a buffet bar featuring an assortment of fried foods, ramen, fish cakes, and beverages. We had so many delightfully chewy rice cakes in different shapes and types. Adding traditional Korean blood sausage (sundae) to cook together was also incredibly delicious. It was absolutely a god-tier, perfect itinerary! 🚡 Stop 1: Riding the Bright Yellow "Palgongsan Cable Car" Straight to the Clouds The starting point for the Palgongsan Cable Car is located in the commercial district at the mountain's base. The moment you arrive, you can spot the iconic, cute yellow cable cars zipping through the valley. First-Time High-Altitude Views: As the cable car slowly ascends, your field of vision instantly expands. Our timing for this visit was just impeccable! We happened to catch a Children’s Day special event (어린이날 행사) held inside the station. According to the schedule on the wall, early May featured a variety of interactive activities like sketching, face painting, cotton candy, and a "Lucky Roulette Wheel" (행운의 돌림판). Just for the fun of it, we decided to give the prize wheel a spin. Who knew Lady Luck was on our side! When the pointer stopped, we actually won a free lunch on the spot! It was hands down the most perfect surprise of our trip! 🥾 Stop 2: Tackling the "Sillimbong" Hiking Trail & Unlocking the Mysterious Bizarre Rock Landscapes Fueled up and fully recharged, we followed the signs and hit the trail. The hiking paths at the peak of Mount Palgong are incredibly well-maintained. The whole way features gentle, easy-to-walk wooden boardwalks and clear signage, making it super friendly for independent travelers looking for a nice hike. A Natural Forest Bath: Heading up the stairs, we were surrounded by a dense, lush canopy. We even spotted a few highly conspicuous, out-of-season red maple leaves that looked absolutely stunning against the emerald green foliage. Along the way, an adorable stone statue of a hiker ahjussi stands by the path, pointing the way to the "Naenggol Forest Bathing Area"—we just had to stop and snap a selfie with him. The Mysterious "Coin Wishing Rock": As we kept walking, a massive, bizarrely shaped weathered boulder appeared right in front of us. Getting closer, it was genuinely mind-blowing—the entire surface of this giant rock was densely covered in countless Korean Won coins! This is a famous local wishing rock. On April 3, 2026, I flew with T'way Air from Taoyuan Airport (02:00-05:25) to Daegu International Airport. After collecting my luggage, I called an Uber at International Exit 1. The driver stopped at Domestic Exit 1, but luckily Uber has GPS tracking, so we quickly found him and he took us directly to the Giant Hotel (a great location between Jungangro and Banwoldang stations). The fare was 10,300 KRW (I linked my credit card in Taiwan beforehand, so I didn't have to say a word). After storing my luggage, I went to the nearby WOWPASS machine (7th floor of the Toyo Inn, to the right after exiting the elevator) to get a card and top up in NTD. Then I used the WOWPASS app to transfer T-money, so I could use one card for food, drinks, and public transportation. Our first stop was Greenvill (그린빌사우나찜질방) to recharge. We walked there, it was quite close, and we arrived in no time. I had done my research beforehand and saw the price was 17,000 won, but it was now 18,000 won. I used my WOWPASS card for the first transaction. The receptionist gave me a locker key, a set of clothes, two small towels, and a small package of shampoo and shower gel. The process was as follows: I took off my shoes at the counter and put them in the shoe locker inside (the locker number matched the one I used; I retrieved my shoes when I left). After entering, I found my locker and took off all my clothes again (the ladies inside were very relaxed). I took the small towel and the complimentary bag and went in to shower first, then soaked in the bath (those with long hair had their hair tied up). There was hot water, cold water, and a sauna. Next, I went back to my locker, changed back into the clothes I had just received, and went to the sauna. There were 92-degree and 62-degree saunas. I didn't stay at 92 degrees for long, but 62 degrees was fine. I stayed in the sauna for about 5 minutes, then went back to my locker to get my phone (to avoid oversleeping). I grabbed a mat and pillow and found a place to lie down and sleep (the lighting inside was dim, so the photos aren't clear). When we arrived, some people were already asleep, some even snoring, but we were so tired that we managed to fall asleep as well. Around 10:30, we showered and washed our hair, and after getting ready, our Daegu trip officially began. Notes: 1. My friend didn't know I had linked my credit card to Uber but paid in cash, so my credit card was still charged. After contacting Uber, they immediately refunded me, which felt reassuring and secure. (However, when we arrived at the hotel, the meter showed 10,300 won, but we gave them 11,000 won in cash and didn't receive change, so the credit card amount also changed to 11,000 won.) 2. In Greenville, we could tell we weren't locals, and the women there would glare at us to see if we had made a mistake. If we did, we'd hear "no~no~no~no" ^^II 3.
