As twilight fell, I took a taxi to Fenghuang Mountain in the northern part of Dazhou. It wasn't far—only about 6 kilometers—but it was an uphill climb the entire way. The car dropped me off not far from Fenghuang Tower. As soon as I stepped out, someone immediately got into the taxi, saying it was difficult to catch a ride on the mountain. The mountain is shaped like a phoenix spreading its wings, hence its name. It has long been a spiritual landmark for the people of Dazhou. When the poet Yuan Zhen was demoted to Tongzhou, he governed diligently and cared for the people; on the day he left, the entire city climbed the mountain to see him off, establishing the tradition of "Yuan Jiu Climbing." Thousands of years later, on the ninth day of the first lunar month, the people of Dazhou still gather to climb the mountain, ascending to remember the past. Fenghuang Tower stands 39 meters tall with 8 stories. It is modeled after a Tang Dynasty palace lantern and is painted entirely in vermilion. By the time we arrived, night had fully fallen. The entire tower was illuminated, resembling a red lantern suspended atop the mountain. As we climbed the stairs, we saw exhibits showcasing Dazhou's 10 most famous figures and 6 renowned prime ministers. The wind was fierce and whistling. I happened to be sitting in direct sunlight, and my feet got sunburned. (This is the reason I have to call them out—Wanning has been great these past few days, but my feet are sunburned and it hurts to walk.) We raised objections before the boat departed, but the merchant gave vague answers. It was only after we argued that they admitted they were waiting for late guests. After getting ashore, we immediately negotiated and requested a refund of CNY 100 per person. The merchant sacrificed the experience of the entire boat just to wait for other guests. Taoxi Valley is my favorite area. The stream water is crystal clear, with that iconic Tiffany blue color. Walking along the boardwalk, you're surrounded by waterfalls and streams on both sides. There are many small pools along the way where you can splash around in the summer—it's icy cold and super refreshing. Remember to wear non-slip shoes, as some rocks have moss and can be slippery. ⏰ 1:00 PM Elephant Cave | A magical world of billion-year-old karst caves After lunch, I went to Elephant Cave.
