I arrived at 7 AM to beat the mist—by 9 AM, the rocks were shrouded, but the mossy trail behind them glowed with orchids. No permit needed, but the trail is unmarked; I used a local map from the Kodaikanal Tourist Office (₹50, cash only). I wore sandals—big mistake—the moss over wet rock is treacherous. A chai vendor near the trailhead gave me a free cup after I mentioned slipping; he said the rocks “weep” in monsoon, feeding the moss. Local rule: no littering—fines up to ₹1,000. The trail ends at a viewpoint where the clouds roll in like waves. Should cloud forests be called “sky forests” to better capture their ethereal quality?

Inside, the deity Murugan, sculpted by sage Bogar using Navapashanam (a mystical blend of nine poisons turned medicinal), holds deep cultural and spiritual significance. Locals say the temple watches over Poombarai — and standing there, I could feel that presence. It wasn’t just a visit. It was a connection.

I did a two day, one night tour of Kodaikanal. It was such a lovely experience. The tour guide had a drone, so we took the drone shot from the dolphin nose. It was all foggy and misty but and the activities we did were very memorable. Highlight was Guna Caves which I Posted separately here. Its a Fun weekend trip.
