Dotonbori travel guide and discussion

If you're planning an Osaka trip and looking for a place to stay, I highly recommend Wellstay Osaka Namba Apartmenthotel-Cocochill. I stayed in a Family Queen Room for two nights, and I liked the price and facilities so much that I'd definitely book it again. The highlight for me was definitely how spacious the room was. Japanese hotel rooms are usually so cramped that you can barely open a suitcase, but here, there was plenty of space even with two large suitcases laid out. Since it's a brand-new property, everything was spotless and in top-notch condition. The bedding and bathroom were kept very clean, making the whole stay super comfortable. The pricing was fantastic as well. I paid about 160,000 KRW for two nights. Given the location in Namba and the size of the room, the value for money is unbeatable. Even though it's a 4-person room, it's actually more affordable than many cramped 2-person rooms elsewhere! I also found the 1st-floor common lounge very handy for relaxing or checking my itinerary before check-in or after check-out. It was a great spot to rest, and most importantly, they have luggage lockers, so I could store my bags and enjoy my last day without any extra weight. It's located close to Namba Station, offering easy access to Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi, and Nankai Namba Station, making it the perfect base for exploring Osaka. ✔️ Looking for a spacious and clean stay in Japan ✔️ Searching for a budget-friendly option in Namba ✔️ Need convenient luggage storage before check-in or after check-out If these fit your criteria, you'll definitely be satisfied with a stay here. 📍 Wellstay Osaka Namba Apartmenthotel-Cocochill 💰 Approx. 160,000 KRW for 2 nights (prices vary by date) 🧳 1st floor lounge & luggage lockers available

Ask anyone who's been to Dotonbori, and they'll remember the giant mechanical crab clawing against the neon sky. For me, that claw isn't a landmark—it's a promise. And when it comes to crab, I don't do "budget." I do the full, theatrical, multi-course spectacle. But here's the secret nobody tells you: splurging doesn't mean being dumb about it. Kani Doraku's dinner sets hover around ¥6,000 to ¥8,000. Gorgeous, yes. But lunch? Same kitchen, same Hokkaido crab, same meticulous prep—starting at just ¥3,520. That's nearly half the price for the exact same show. The atmosphere - Tatami seats, sunken tables, window views of the Dotonbori river chaos and crowd —it’s theatrical in that quiet, very Japanese way. The servers glided around with gentle precision, and within minutes, my table became a stage. Then the parade began. Chilled legs that tasted like ocean candy. Steaming paper hot pot with broth so rich I wanted to bottle it. Grilled crab releasing that smoky, buttery perfume. Tempura so light it crackled. And the grand finale: that clay pot of crab rice, infused with umami, which you pour dashi over for a second life as comforting chazuke. Plus crab chawanmushi, crab sushi, crab miso soup—and yuzu sorbet to reset your soul. Was it pricey? Sure. Did I care? Not a yen. Because some meals aren't about "value." They're about surrendering to pure, messy, buttery indulgence—cracking shells, scraping every shred, and exchanging that silent "this is insane" look across the table. So when you're under that neon claw, asking yourself "should I?"—stop debating. Splurge. Just do it at lunch. Your taste buds won't know the difference. Your wallet definitely will. That's my honest take. What's your "always splurge" food when you travel?

TG BKK → KIX | December 30, 2026 🕐 23:59–07:20 ✈️ Boeing 777-300ER 💺 Royal First Class | 1-2-1 Configuration I want to say… I was very impressed! 😂💜 This was one of the flights where I felt Thai Airways truly delivered a "First Class" experience in Royal First Class, from before boarding until landing in Japan. The only thing I regret is… I wish I had flown during the day 😂 Because this was a red-eye flight departing from Bangkok almost at midnight. Even though there was a lot to do on board, sleepiness eventually won. ⸻ 🛋️ Starting with the Royal First Lounge Before boarding, I had the opportunity to use the Royal First Lounge, which has been my favorite part of the trip since its inception. The atmosphere was calm and private, and I felt like I was being given special care on this trip. What I liked most was that close to boarding time, staff came to pick me up from the lounge and take me to the plane. No need to walk to the gate yourself in a hassle; someone meets you in the lounge and takes you to the plane. It feels like First Class even before boarding! 😂 ⸻ 💺 Royal First Class — 1-2-1 The aircraft used is a Boeing 777-300ER, and there are only 8 Royal First Class seats in the entire plane. The seats are decorated in a cream and gold tone, very characteristic of Thai Airways. The space is surprisingly spacious, and the 1-2-1 layout means every seat has direct access to the aisle. There's plenty of storage space, a personal screen, and the seat can be converted into a bed. Even though it's an older model than newer First Class, the space arrangement is still excellent. The only downside is the lack of a door for privacy. Therefore, compared to the newer First Class suites, this one offers less privacy. But for me… even just sitting in it, I still felt like “this is First Class” 😂 ⸻ 🧴 Amenity Kit — La Mer Another thing I really liked was the amenity kit from La Mer. The bag has a beautiful design, with a Thai-inspired pattern that still looks luxurious. Inside, there are La Mer products, which makes the amenity kit feel even more premium. These are items that I feel I can actually reuse. It's not just complimentary drinks on the plane. ⸻ 🥂 Champagne — Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle The drinks menu is also amazing. The Champagne served is Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle 🥂 Besides Champagne, the menu also has many wines to choose from, both red and white wines, such as: 🍷 Château La Tour Carnet 2018 🍷 Domaine Maurice Ecard 2018 🍷 Corte Giara Amarone 2019 🥂 Millebuis 2021 🥂 Jean-Marc Brocard 2021 🥂 Anne de K Riesling 2018 And what I really liked is that they also have Thai Signature Cocktails: 🍹 Rose of the Royal Voyage 🍹 The Legacy Reborn 🍹 Oriental Dawn You can choose from a wide variety of drinks for a long time. 😂 ⸻ 🍽️ Food — So much variety! This has to be the highlight of the flight. It felt like we were eating for about 5 hours straight! 😂 The menu wasn't simple; it was a serious dining service with: 🥂 Caviar & Appetizer 🥣 Soup 🥗 Salad 🍽️ Main Course 🍰 Dessert 🍇 Cheese & Fruits And there was a choice of Thai, Western, and Japanese dishes depending on the meal service. What I liked was that everything was served in courses, not all at once. It started with drinks and snacks, followed by appetizers, soup, salad, then the main course, and finally dessert and fruit. For a long night flight of over 5 hours, there was definitely something to eat the whole time! 😂 ⸻ 🍲 Favorite Meal From what I tried, I personally felt the food presentation was excellent. From the caviar dish served with accompaniments to the soup with truffle, everything was more elaborate than I expected. The other meal was Japanese style, featuring fish served with rice and various side dishes. It didn't feel like just ordinary "plane food" at all; it was a meal I could really enjoy. The availability of Champagne, Wine, and Cocktails made the meal feel even more complete. ⸻ 😴 The only downside — I wish I could fly during the day! If I could choose just one thing to change… I'd rather try Royal First on a daytime flight 😂 Because this flight departed at 23:59, a time when my body should be sleeping. Even though there was food, drinks, movies, and beds available, I still felt sleepy the whole time. At times, I wanted to keep eating and watching the movie, but my eyes were closing 😂 If it were a daytime flight… I should have fully enjoyed the Royal First experience. ⸻ ⭐ Friend-to-friend summary: Honestly, this Thai Airways Royal First Class flight impressed me greatly. From the Royal First Lounge where they greeted me to board, the incredibly spacious 1-2-1 seating configuration, the La Mer amenity kit, the Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Champagne, to the full-course meal. What I liked most was the overall complete feeling. It wasn't just about getting a bigger seat, but feeling that every step was designed to be truly First Class. If I have the chance again, what I really want to try is a daytime Royal First Class flight, because this flight had great food, great drinks, great seats, and great service… The only downside was that I was incredibly sleepy 😂 But if you ask how I felt after landing? “Now I understand why First Class is different from Business Class.” 💜🇹🇭✈️ ⸻ #thaiairways #การบินไทย #royalfirst #ThaiAirwaysRoyalFirstt #firstclass #firstclassreview #tg #tg660 #bkkkix #bangkokkansai #reviewthaiairways #reviewfirstclass #airlinereview #flightreview #travelreview

This was one of my favourite experiences as an art lover. With everything competing for attention around Dotonbori, it would be incredibly easy to walk straight past the Kamigata Ukiyo-e Museum. It's small, spread across a narrow building near Hozenji, and very different from the big museums where you need several hours. But that was exactly what I liked about it. The collection introduced me to a side of ukiyo-e I hadn't paid much attention to before: the Kamigata tradition and its portraits of Kabuki actors from Osaka's theatre world. What makes the location particularly interesting is that you step back outside into one of Osaka's busiest entertainment districts, essentially the modern version of an area that has entertained people for generations. It doesn't need half a day, but if you're already exploring Dotonbori and Hozenji, I think it's one of the easiest worthwhile additions people overlook. #underratedspots #japan #thingstodo #osaka #localguides #travel2026 #hiddengems #dotonbori #solotravel #artlover

There are plenty of eel rice (unagi) options in Osaka, but "DOTONBORI KUROFUNE Nagahoribashi" is definitely one you won't forget. With a whole eel draped beautifully over the lunch box, you'll be snapping pics before you even take a bite. Located in Higashi-Shinsaibashi, it's just a 2-minute walk from Exit 7 of the Osaka Metro Nagahoribashi Station. After your meal, you can head straight to Shinsaibashi-suji, Dotonbori, and Namba for some shopping, making it the perfect lunch stop for a day trip around downtown Osaka. The interior features a sleek, calming wood-toned aesthetic with about 21 seats, including bar seating for solo diners and tables for two. It ditches the stiff, formal vibe of some massive legacy unagi restaurants for a clean, laid-back atmosphere that's super welcoming to tourists. They offer an English menu and accept credit cards, transit IC cards, and some mobile payments, making it incredibly convenient for independent travelers👏🏻 Opening its doors in the spring of 2024, the Nagahoribashi location was originally part of the "Unagiya Kurofune" group. The Kurofune brand started in the Fuse area of Osaka and gradually expanded across the city and other parts of Japan. This specific branch keeps things focused, starring two main dishes: "Ippon Unagi" (Whole Eel) and "Hitsumabushi" (Chopped Eel Rice). Instead of relying on a bunch of flashy side dishes, it lets the generous portion, perfect grill marks, and mouthwatering aroma of the kabayaki eel take center stage. The absolute showstopper you have to order is the "Unaju Ippon Unagi" (Whole Eel Rice Box). When you open the wooden lid, the whole kabayaki eel practically hides all the rice underneath—the visual impact is seriously epic. The eel is steamed first and then grilled, keeping the meat soft and fluffy inside while giving the outside a nice, slightly charred crispness. The sweet and savory kabayaki sauce is brushed on perfectly, seeping into the rice so every bite is packed with rich eel fat and savory goodness, without being overly sweet. According to the 2024 menu, the whole "Ippon Unagi" goes for ¥3,500. The set comes with chopped green onions, wasabi, pickled ginger, clear soup (suimono), and a perfectly sweet warabimochi for dessert. For the first half of your meal, try it plain to really taste the combo of the kabayaki sauce and the fish. Halfway through, mix in a little wasabi and green onion—the spicy kick totally refreshes your palate. Finish it off with a sip of the clear soup and the warabimochi. The whole set leaves you feeling incredibly satisfied without any flavor fatigue. If you want to mix up how you eat it, go for the "Hitsumabushi." Enjoy your first bowl plain, add green onions and wasabi to your second bowl, and pour hot dashi broth over your final bowl to turn it into an unagi chazuke (tea/broth rice). Taking the same eel from rich kabayaki to a refreshing spicy kick, and finally to a warm, comforting broth rice, makes this the ultimate choice for first-timers or anyone who wants a bit of variety in every bite. At the time, the three-way Hitsumabushi was priced by portion: half eel for ¥2,500, three-quarters for ¥3,100, and a whole eel for ¥3,500. Takeout Unaju bento boxes were ¥1,700 for a half, ¥2,400 for three-quarters, and ¥2,900 for a whole. If you just want a taste, starting with a half portion works great. But if you're an unagi lover or have a big appetite, just go for the whole thing—the wow factor when it hits the table is totally worth it. Heads up: this spot has recently been renamed to "Japanese Unagi YOSAKURA Nagahoribashi." The address and phone number are exactly the same, and the latest reservation page clearly notes "Formerly DOTONBORI KUROFUNE Nagahoribashi." In other words, the sign in older photos, past travel blogs, and some map records might still say Kurofune. When mapping out your itinerary, make sure to search for "Japanese Unagi YOSAKURA" so you don't think the place closed down permanently. For the most up-to-date info, check their official brand page and booking site. Why We Recommend It: ① A whole eel completely covers the lunch box, delivering serious wow factor and incredibly Instagrammable moments. ② Steamed then grilled, giving it a slightly charred crust while keeping the fish tender and delicate. ③ Hitsumabushi (three-way unagi) lets you experience it plain, with condiments, and as a dashi broth rice all in one meal. ④ A safe bet if you don't eat beef or lamb—you can still feast like a king with eel as the star. ⑤ Just a 2-minute walk from Nagahoribashi Station, making it super easy to link up with Shinsaibashi, Dotonbori, and Namba. ⑥ Intimate seating and a quiet vibe make it perfect for solo travelers or a cute date. You can kick off your day exploring Kuromon Market or the Osaka Castle area, grab lunch at Nagahoribashi for some top-tier eel, and then spend the afternoon strolling down Shinsaibashi-suji toward Dotonbori, Hozenji Yokocho, and Namba. Since they mainly operate during lunch hours, it's highly recommended to book in advance if you want the whole eel. Also, give yourself about an hour to savor the meal—don't rush your afternoon plans! 📍 Location Tag|DOTONBORI KUROFUNE Nagahoribashi Japanese Name|道頓堀黒船 長堀橋 Current Name|Japanese Unagi YOSAKURA Nagahoribashi (日本鰻 世桜 長堀橋店) Address|1-4-21 Higashi-Shinsaibashi, Chuo-ku, Osaka Japanese Address|大阪府大阪市中央区東心斎橋1-4-21 Phone|06-6210-4391 Hours|10:30 AM – 2:00 PM Transit|~2-minute walk from Exit 7, Osaka Metro Nagahoribashi Station Budget|~¥3,000 – ¥5,000 / person Parking|No dedicated parking; taking the subway is recommended. *Note: The store name, business hours, menu, and prices are subject to change. #slowtraveling Dotonbori's south bank pavement (opposite the Glico runner side) runs 500m from Namba to the Ebisubashi bridge—quieter than the north because the famous signs face north. From Namba Station 3 min to the south bank. Free, 24h. The "stroll" is the 500m walk with the canal on your left and the back-of-signs on your right—no crab, no fugu, just the reverse of the postcard. I went 21:45 weekday June: Namba → south bank 21:50, walked east. The Glico runner blinked from across the water (not above), the crab sign glowed orange on the far side. Sat on the canal edge 20 min—the water moved, the reflection was sharper than the sign. A 130-yen vending coffee (IC) from Namba. By 22:30 Friday crowd thickened; at 21:45 the bank was the canal's own mirror hour. 45 min, 130 yen. IC train, IC vending. Etiquette: south bank = no sitting on the rail, the pavement is 2.5m—no roller bag race, the canal is not a footpath, no drone (city ban). Mistake: 23:00 Friday—bank a conveyor, the reflection broken by selfie sticks. 21:45 weekday, runner-across-water, is Dotonbori's own reverse hour. Question: when the famous signs look better from the side that doesn't have them, is the postcard the lie or the souvenir?

#slowtraveling Ura-Namba (“back Namba”) is the 6-block grid west of Namba Station that guidebooks skip because it has no neon dragon. I came out of JR Namba’s north gate at 18:10, walked 8 minutes past the closed shutter of a pachinko parlor, and hit the first standing bar — a 4-meter counter, 8 regulars, ¥300 for a mug of draft, ¥150 for a boiled egg with mustard. Cash only, no menu, the master points at the pot. The walk threads Sennichi Jizoson, a tiny temple on a side lane where a row of 1,000 small Jizo statues lines the wall — each sponsored by a local shop, some dated Showa 30s. Free, always open, no one else there at 18:40. Between the Jizo wall and the standing bars you pass: a 7-seat kushikatsu counter (¥100/stick, cash), a tachinomi specializing in Kishu mandarin sour (¥400), a 3-table oden stand where the broth has clearly been alive since 1989. None take card. Budget ¥2,500 for 5 stops and you leave full and upright. Transit: Namba Station (Midosuji/Nankai/JR) is the hub; from the Nankai exit it’s 6 minutes west on foot. Avoid Friday 20:00–22:00 if you hate shoulder-to-shoulder; Tuesday is dead and perfect. A common error is conflating Ura-Namba with Hozenji-yokocho — Hozenji is the touristy lantern alley, Ura-Namba is the residential drink grid two blocks west. Ask a taxi “Sennichi Jizoson” and they’ll know; ask “Ura-Namba” and they’ll guess. Would you stand for your dinner on a Tuesday in a city that invented the chair-restaurant? In Ura-Namba the stool is the luxury you skip to talk to the person next to you.

When visiting Osaka, aside from the classic izakayas, you absolutely can't miss out on authentic charcoal-grilled yakiniku! This time, I visited "Showa Taishu Horumon" near Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori. Stepping inside feels like hopping into a time machine—it perfectly recreates the retro back-alley (yokocho) vibe of 1950s and 60s Japan. 📻✨ The entire restaurant is decked out with nostalgic posters and rustic wooden booths, while classic Showa-era tunes play in the background. The atmosphere is vibrant with a touch of mystery. Their specialty is authentic direct grilling over a traditional "Shichirin" charcoal stove. The rich, smoky aroma fills the air, making it the perfect spot to grab a drink, chow down on some hearty meat, and soak up the ultimate local nightlife experience! 🗺️ A Charcoal-Grilled Feast: Must-Order Recommendations for Foodies This place focuses on high-quality beef and deliciously marinated offal (Horumon) at incredible value. With prices starting as low as 199 JPY for some items, you can literally order anything on the menu without disappointment: 🥩 Phantom Skirt Steak (Maboroshi no Harami): Incredibly tender meat that locks in its juices over the charcoal fire. The rich beefy flavor explodes in your mouth—an absolute match made in heaven with a bowl of white rice! 👑 Dark Large Intestine (Yami no Tetchan): The highly recommended signature offal! Packed with sweet, savory fat, just grill it until the outside gets a slight char and the fat starts sizzling. It melts in your mouth with zero gaminess, delivering a pure burst of rich, buttery flavor! 🍳 Beef Tartare (Gyu-toro Tataki / Yukhoe): Served with a special sauce and raw egg yolk. Mix it all up, and it practically melts in your mouth. The texture is smooth and refined—a fantastic appetizer! 🍻 God-Tier Drink Pairings: The Lemon Sours (Lemon Chu-hai) and Highballs here start at just 290 JPY a glass. Crisp and refreshing, they cut right through the richness of the hearty charcoal BBQ, making them the ultimate soulmate for your meal! 📝 Conclusion Overall, this yakiniku joint truly embodies the lively, down-to-earth, late-night food culture of Osaka. If you're looking for a taste of traditional, retro Japan to contrast with your modern luxury hotel stay (like The Gate Hotel I'm staying at this trip), this is hands down the best choice for a late-night bite or gathering! 📍 Quick Tips for Your Trip 🚶♂️ Super Convenient Location: Just a quick walk from Namba or Shinsaibashi stations. It's the perfect stop for a meal after strolling down Dotonbori and taking photos with the iconic Glico sign. 👕 Clothing Advice: Since it's authentic charcoal grilling, even with the strong exhaust pipes above, you'll definitely leave smelling like delicious BBQ. I’d suggest leaving your expensive coats at the hotel. Once seated, you can store your jackets in the large plastic bags or storage baskets provided by the staff. 🔥 **Veteran's Secret Tip (Heat Control): When grilling fatty cuts like the large intestine, dripping fat can easily cause flare-ups and heavy smoke. When this happens, ask the staff for some ice cubes (Kori).** Just press an ice cube onto the flaming spot on the grill to quickly cool it down and control the fire. Your meat will come out perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside—instantly making you a yakiniku pro!

I’m currently planning a trip to Japan and discovered some major updates regarding the rules for traveling with power banks. I wanted to share this crucial info with you all. According to the latest travel updates, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has revised its aviation safety regulations with the **"New Rules for Carrying Power Banks,"** which officially took full effect on April 24, 2026. If you're planning a trip to Japan soon, make sure to keep these 7 key points in mind to avoid getting your power banks confiscated or facing hefty fines: 1. Strict Quantity Limits (New Rule) · Maximum of 2 per person: Regardless of their capacity, each passenger is now strictly limited to bringing a maximum of 2 power banks on board. · Old vs. New: Previously, there was generally no limit on the number of power banks under 100Wh you could carry. Now, it’s uniformly capped at 2 across the board. 2. Capacity and Specification Restrictions · Under 160Wh: The capacity of a single power bank must not exceed 160Wh (approximately 43,000mAh, calculated at 3.7V). · Clear labeling is mandatory: If your power bank lacks a clear capacity label or if the text is worn out and illegible, security personnel have the right to confiscate it on the spot. 3. Total Ban on In-Flight Use (New Rule) · No charging devices: Using a power bank to charge your phone, tablet, or laptop during the flight is strictly prohibited (this applies to both wired and wireless charging). · No charging the power bank itself: You are strictly forbidden from plugging your power bank into the plane's seat outlets or USB ports to recharge it. · The solution: If your phone needs juice, plug it directly into the USB port or power outlet provided at your seat. 4. Absolutely No Checked Baggage • Power banks must be packed in your carry-on bag. Under no circumstances should they be placed in your checked luggage. 5. Storage Location Requirements · No overhead bins: Once you board, do not stash your power bank in the overhead compartments. · Keep it within reach: Store it under the seat in front of you, in the seatback pocket, or in a small personal bag. This ensures that if anything goes wrong (like it starts smoking), you'll notice it immediately. 6. Short-Circuit Protection • It's highly recommended to pack each power bank individually in a sealed plastic bag or its original box. Some guidelines also suggest placing insulating tape over the input/output ports to prevent short circuits caused by contact with keys, coins, or other metal objects. 7. Penalties • Violating the relevant regulations of Japan's Civil Aeronautics Act can lead to severe consequences, with maximum penalties of up to 2 years in prison or a fine of up to 1 million yen (roughly over 50,000 HKD). Pro Tip: Be sure to fully charge your phone and power banks at home or in the airport lounge before boarding. It's also a good idea to double-check with your specific airline before departure to see if they have even stricter individual requirements.

Visiting Osaka during the cherry blossom season was an unforgettable experience. The entire city was covered in soft pink sakura, creating a peaceful yet vibrant atmosphere everywhere I went. One of the main highlights was Osaka Castle and the surrounding Osaka Castle Park. The view of the castle framed by blooming cherry blossoms was absolutely stunning — a perfect blend of history and nature. It’s also a great place to take a slow walk and enjoy the seasonal scenery. I also visited Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto, where the elevated wooden stage offers breathtaking views of sakura across the hills. The traditional architecture combined with cherry blossoms creates a very iconic and memorable scene. Another unforgettable spot was Arashiyama. The area is calm and scenic, especially with the river, mountains, and cherry blossoms coming together. Walking through this area felt very relaxing and refreshing. Back in Osaka, I explored Tsutenkaku, which has a more nostalgic and local vibe. The surrounding streets are lively and full of character, offering a different side of Osaka compared to the modern city areas. At night, Dotonbori was full of energy with bright lights, famous signboards, and amazing food. It’s the perfect place to enjoy Osaka’s street food culture and end the day with a vibrant atmosphere. What made this trip special was the combination of sakura scenery, cultural landmarks, and city life. The weather during spring was comfortable, and every location had its own unique charm. 💡 Tips for Sakura season: · Plan your trip around peak bloom for the best experience · Visit popular spots early to avoid crowds · Try both daytime and night sakura viewing · Wear comfortable shoes — a lot of walking involved · Don’t miss local street food, especially in Dotonbori Overall, this Osaka (and nearby Kyoto) sakura trip was truly magical — a perfect mix of nature, culture, and unforgettable memories. Highly recommended for a spring getaway in Japan! 🌸✨ #japanosaka #japankyoto #japansakura #ichiranramen #ujimatcha #japantemples #japanshrine

Osaka is overflowing with delicious food, so much so that there's a saying: "Kuidaore" (eat until you drop)! In this post, I'll share the absolute must-try restaurants in Osaka, along with the simple yet uniquely Japanese everyday street scenes that caught my eye. I’ll also reveal the smartest tip for getting rid of those pesky leftover coins on your last day of the trip! 📸 📍 A Taste That Proves the Wait is Worth It: 'Motomura Gyukatsu' 🥩🔥 This is Motomura Gyukatsu, the absolute number one on Osaka's gyukatsu restaurant list! As rumored, the wait was incredibly long, leaving my legs sore and exhausted. But the moment I grilled the meat on my personal stone stove with a sizzling sound and took a bite, the pain of waiting was completely forgotten. It boasts an ultimate tenderness—crispy on the outside while melting softly in your mouth on the inside. 📍 'HARBS' Crepe Cake: I'd Eat It Endlessly If I Had the Money 🍰🍓 This is 'HARBS,' a mandatory dessert stop you must visit when in Osaka. Honestly, the prices are quite high, but the thick layers of the cake are generously packed with large, fresh fruits, making the cost instantly justifiable after just one bite. It's so sweet and milky that, if my wallet allowed it, I would want to keep ordering it endlessly. It's truly a sweet and enchanting flavor! 📍 Every Step is a Photoshoot: Everyday Scenes of Osaka 🚶♂️🏮 While the dazzling Dotonbori is great, taking a walk down the ordinary streets of Osaka without a specific destination is also incredibly healing. The alleyway sceneries, blending cute buildings, vending machines, and Japan's uniquely calm color palettes, became excellent photo subjects in themselves. Be sure to squeeze in a relaxing alleyway stroll amidst your busy schedule. 📍 A Travel Pro's Last-Minute Tip: 'Spending Leftover Coins' at Convenience Stores 🪙🍙 When traveling in Japan, you'll accumulate so many coins that your pockets get heavy. Remember, bills can be exchanged when you return home, but coins cannot! That's why I highly recommend spending all your leftover coins at a convenience store before heading to the airport or even at the airport. I emptied my pockets to buy sweet and chewy dango, a savory triangular kimbap (onigiri), and a refreshing drink, filling my stomach perfectly before boarding my flight. It's the ultimate way to get rid of bothersome coins while enjoying delicious snacks! 💡 Golden Tips for Your Osaka Trip (Save this!) ✔️ Beating the Motomura Gyukatsu Crowd: Try to avoid peak dining hours (12 PM - 2 PM, 6 PM - 8 PM) and visit during the odd afternoon hours to shorten your wait time a bit. ✔️ Make Use of HARBS Takeout: If the dine-in line at HARBS is too long, try getting takeout. Or better yet, eat at the store, pack some more to-go, and enjoy it leisurely back at your accommodation. ✔️ Paying with Coins at Convenience Stores: Convenience store clerks are very accustomed to counting coins and are extremely kind. If you have too many coins and feel confused, you can just hold them out on your palm and ask them to count it for you; they will gladly help, so don't worry and spend it all! Osaka, Japan—a trip filled with gastronomic delights and valuable travel tips! I hope my experiences help make your next trip to Osaka even more perfect. ✈️ Travel Travel

#osaka If you’re trying to choose between Osaka and Tokyo, here’s the honest truth: Tokyo is impressive—but Osaka is the place you’ll actually enjoy. Tokyo can feel overwhelming. It’s विशाल, hyper-busy, and often a bit impersonal. You’ll spend a lot of time navigating train lines, squeezing through crowds, and ticking off sights. Osaka, on the other hand, feels alive in a completely different way—warmer, more relaxed, and much more human. The first thing you’ll notice in Osaka is the people. Locals are famously friendly, outgoing, and even a bit cheeky compared to Tokyo’s more reserved vibe. It’s easier to strike up conversations, ask for help, or just feel welcomed. That alone changes your entire travel experience. Then there’s the food—this is where Osaka completely wins. It’s known as “Japan’s kitchen,” and once you try it, you’ll understand why. In areas like Dotonbori, the streets are packed with energy, neon lights, and incredible street food. You can grab fresh takoyaki, crispy okonomiyaki, and grilled skewers all within a few steps. Tokyo has great food too—but Osaka makes eating feel like an event, not just a meal. Osaka is also more compact and easier to explore. Instead of spending hours commuting, you can actually enjoy your time. Major spots like Osaka Castle and lively shopping streets are close together. You’ll walk more, discover hidden gems, and feel like you’re experiencing the city instead of just passing through it. Another big advantage: Osaka is the perfect base for exploring the Kansai region. In under an hour, you can reach Kyoto for temples and tradition, or Nara to see deer roaming freely among ancient shrines. Staying in Osaka gives you access to some of Japan’s most iconic cultural destinations—without constantly changing hotels. And let’s talk value. Osaka is generally cheaper than Tokyo—food, accommodation, and even experiences. That means you can do more, eat more, and stress less about your budget. Finally, Osaka simply has more personality. It’s loud, flavorful, slightly chaotic in a fun way, and full of character. Tokyo can sometimes feel polished and corporate; Osaka feels real. So if you want a trip that’s not just about checking famous landmarks—but about enjoying every moment, eating incredibly well, meeting friendly people, and having stories to tell—Osaka is the better choice. Tokyo impresses you. Osaka connects with you. #dotonbori #osakacastle #japan

🇯🇵Osaka Odyssey*🇯🇵 Before heading back to Hong Kong, we savored our last culinary adventure in Osaka! 😄 We enjoyed a traditional Japanese seafood set meal that was both fresh and beautifully presented. For dessert, we visited the famous "AMATO MAEDA," a delightful sweets shop that has been enchanting visitors since 1968. There, we indulged in their homemade bean jam and handcrafted white ball dumplings. The chefs' craftsmanship shines through, especially with their use of original soft cream to elevate the sweetness of their desserts. A standout treat was their Mitarashi-dango, featuring perfectly grilled rice dumplings coated in a savory-sweet soy sauce glaze. Each bite offered a perfect balance of textures and flavors, leaving us wanting more! Our Osaka food journey was truly unforgettable. 😄😊

🍣 One Day in Osaka – Food, Shopping & City Views 📍 Location: Osaka, Japan 💰 Average spending: Around ¥5,000–¥10,000 depending on food and shopping 🏖️ Environment: Lively city full of street food, shopping streets, and neon lights 🕰️ Best time to explore: Morning until late evening If you only have one day in Osaka, this simple itinerary covers food, shopping, and some iconic city spots. It’s an easy route and perfect for exploring the energetic vibe of the city. We started the morning with breakfast at Kizu Market. This market is known for fresh seafood, and it’s a great place to begin the day with a classic Japanese breakfast. We had fresh sushi and uni, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. Walking around the market in the morning also gives you a glimpse of local life. After breakfast, we headed to Shinsaibashi for some shopping. This area is one of the most popular shopping streets in Osaka, filled with fashion stores, cosmetic shops, and plenty of cafés. It’s a great place to wander around and pick up a few things. Next, we walked toward Namba Yasaka Shrine. This shrine is famous for its giant lion head stage, which is believed to swallow evil spirits and bring good luck. It’s definitely one of the most unique shrines in Osaka and a cool photo spot. In the afternoon, we went to Tsutenkaku Tower, one of the classic landmarks of the city located in the Shinsekai area. The neighborhood has a retro Osaka atmosphere with lots of street food stalls and local restaurants. Before ending the day, we stopped by MEGA Don Quijote Dotonbori for some late-night shopping. This place is huge and sells almost everything — snacks, cosmetics, souvenirs, and even luxury items. It’s a fun place to browse and grab some last-minute things. To finish the day, we had dinner at a small sushi restaurant near our hotel, which was the perfect way to end the day after exploring the city. 💞 Why this Osaka day trip works well: · Start the day with fresh seafood at a local market · Explore Shinsaibashi shopping street · Visit a unique shrine with a giant lion head · See the classic Tsutenkaku Tower · End the night with shopping and sushi It’s a relaxed but fun way to experience Osaka’s food, culture, and nightlife all in one day. 🍣✨ #japantrip

Giant sushi signs, neon lights everywhere, and the wild buzz of Dotonbori. Even on a packed Sunday night, the energy was totally worth diving into! Top Spots to Visit in Dotonbori, Osaka Strawberry Mania (Dotonbori Branch) – 1 Chome-3-17 Dotonbori A must for dessert lovers! Their fresh strawberry treats are super popular—my favorite one was mochi -matcha strawberry and this was the best mochi i had on entire trip. Kushikatsu Daruma - Dotombori – 1-chome-6-8 Dotonbori Daruma Bldg 2F Crunchy, golden kushikatsu skewers here are legendary. Order a mix, grab a cold drink, and soak in the vibrant second-floor views over the action. Takoyaki Dotonbori Kukuru Konamon Museum – 1 Chome-6-12 Dotonbori Takoyaki is most loved treat in Osaka and this spot delivers beyond classic. Museum’s open every day (10:00–21:00 weekends, 11:00–21:00 weekdays). Glico Sign Dotonbori – 1 Chome-10-3 Dotonbori The Glico Sign is Osaka’s iconic night backdrop, and there’s always some spot from which you can take selfie if you are patient. I visited both during day and evening and i prefer view at night. Onitsuka Tiger Namba Store I found this one to be on most convenient location of all Onitsuka Tiger stores. M coin's 戎橋店 1 Chome-6-12 Namba, Chuo Ward, Osaka, 542-0076, Japan After strolling through couple Donki stores and two Ginza Karens i accidentally found out this spot nobody talks about with the biggest choice of suitcases on Sale and cheapest. Besides being cheapest you can also buy Tax free for additional discount so i bought BIG suitcase i liked right on spot (this was a bit inconvenient cos i kept strolling with it around but still worth it) and quality is good that suitcase survived many things. How to Get Around: Subway’s the easiest way (Namba or Dotonbori stations drop you right in the heart). Food Tip: Street eats rule here. Don’t stress the lines—turnover is fast and the flavors are worth it. #OsakaNights #DotonboriEats #JapanStreetFood #OsakaTravel

#JapanTravel ⸻ Osaka Amazing Pass This was the biggest concern for me before I left. 🇯🇵 I wondered, "Is this really worth it?" The conclusion is "It's okay to use it on a single day to visit all the tourist attractions." Here's how I used it: 👇🏽 Morning: Osaka Castle → Afternoon: Tsutenkaku → Evening: Dotonbori River Cruise I rode the subway multiple times that day, including the observatory and cruise, so it felt less expensive than paying for it individually. Conversely, on a day when I only shopped in Namba I didn't really need it. ㅡ 📌 Basic Information 🎫 Types · 1-day pass · 2-day pass 💰 Price (as of 2026) · 1-day pass: approximately 3,500 yen · 2-day pass: approximately 5,000 yen ※ Varies depending on exchange rate and season 🚇 Includes: · Unlimited subway and bus rides in Osaka City · Free admission to approximately 40 major tourist attractions (one ride each) ㅡ 📍 Recommended Itinerary 1 Osaka Castle → Shinsekai (Tsutenkaku) → Dotonbori Cruise 📍 Recommended Itinerary 2 Umeda Floating Garden → HEP Five Ferris Wheel → Tempozan Ferris Wheel 👉🏽 Visiting more than two observatories in one day + frequent travel is usually a good deal 👉🏽 Not really useful on days when going to Universal Studios Japan ㅡ 📌 Recommended for: · First-time Osaka traveler · 3-day, 2-night itinerary focusing on sightseeing · Photo-focused itinerary 📌 Ambiguous Cases · Cafe- and shopping-focused itinerary · Routes focused on areas near accommodations · Routes with minimal movement ㅡ My criteria were: "Are you planning to visit more than three places today?" Osaka is all about energy, food, and character. It's a city that's louder, livelier, and incredibly authentic. What to see in Osaka: Dotonbori - This is where neon lights, flashy signs, the aroma of takoyaki and okonomiyaki, crowds of people, and the feeling that the city never sleeps come together. Of course, I saw the famous Glico Running Man above the canal. If you want to feel the pulse of Osaka, this is the place to be. Osaka Castle - Built in the late 16th century by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, this castle marked the beginning of Japan's unification. Today, it houses a museum, and the top floor offers panoramic views of the city. What impressed me the most were the massive stone walls and the surrounding park, which truly convey the scale of history. Another recommended spot is Namba Yasaka Shrine. The enormous stage shaped like a lion's head, standing about 12 meters tall, is truly unique. It's said that the open mouth "swallows evil spirits" and brings good fortune in business. This is definitely one of the most unconventional shrines. One unexpected delight for me was Osaka's beautifully designed manhole covers. Yes, ordinary sewer covers! In Japan, this is an art form: they feature designs of Osaka Castle, cherry blossoms, and city symbols. I found myself looking down and photographing them. It's a small detail, but it adds charm to the city. Why visit Osaka? Because it's a city of contrasts: samurai history and neon lights, ancient shrines and street food, the tranquility of temples and the wild energy of night streets. And let's not forget—Osaka is considered Japan's culinary capital. People come here to eat, and that's already a great reason to visit 😉
