Dushan County, a small mountainous town in Qiannan Prefecture, Guizhou, is a convenient place to stay when visiting the Xiaoqikong and Daqikong scenic areas in Libo. We chose to stay at the Baiquan Grand Hotel in Nanguo Impression Central City, which is surrounded by numerous restaurants and shopping malls, making it quite convenient. The hotel's decor is quite stylish, incorporating the unique mountain and rock formations of Guizhou into its design, creating an artistic setting that exudes a sense of understated luxury. For a four-star business hotel, it is quite impressive. We stayed in a superior twin room, which was 37 square meters in size, making it spacious and comfortable. The room rate, including breakfast for two, was less than 2,000 TWD! This price is very reasonable. Unfortunately, we had to check out early the next morning to visit the scenic areas, so we didn't have time to enjoy the public facilities, but overall, the stay was quite pleasant.

Wherever there are karst limestone canyon terrains, stalactite cave landscapes are often found, and this is especially common in Guizhou. The 'Dushan Tiandong' we are visiting this time, themed around a sea of flowers on flat ground and blossoms competing, is a representative scenic area of cave landscapes. The stalactite caves are bizarre and unique, locally known as 'Fairy Caves'. Located on Duxiu Peak between Dushan and Libo, the entrance is halfway up the mountain. The trails are well-maintained and illuminated with colorful lights, further highlighting the peculiar rocks and formations, creating a mysterious and otherworldly atmosphere. The entire Dushan Scenic Area is quite large. Besides Tiandong, it also includes Tian Tower, Tianwang Square, Iron-skin Dendrobium Theme Park, Celebrity Botanical Garden, Royal Garden, Tianyi Lake, Buyi Ethnic Village, Baishui Spring, Qianshui Spring, Wanshou Lake, and more. The entrance fee is around 98 RMB.

Today, 10 friends and I checked into the Dushan Jianyi International Hotel. It's a hotel with good reviews on Journey.com and is even touted as a five-star hotel. We were disappointed even before we even entered the hotel! The 10-person bus had to park at the main entrance. We saw escalators on both sides and thought we could take our luggage up to the hotel entrance. But when we called security, the escalators weren't even open. They said we didn't have a key to start them. So, we ended up carrying all our luggage up the stairs, including some elderly people in their 60s and 70s! What the hell?! A five-star hotel doesn't even have a porter, and the escalators are useless! We came based on the reviews, but we were so disappointed! We reported it to the front desk, but we didn't get a satisfactory response or any compensation. How can they still call themselves a five-star hotel? Please 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 don’t embarrass yourself!

The scenic area is very large, so be sure to buy a sightseeing shuttle ticket to save a lot of energy. The waterfalls are more spectacular during the rainy season when the water volume is high, but remember to carry portable rain gear.

🌟 The Origin | Heading to a building that keeps people talking I saw the Shuisi Building online a long time ago. It was once called the world's largest pure wood structure, with mixed reviews and constant controversy. This time, arriving in Dushan, I decided to set aside all the online noise and stay at the renovated Zilinshan Holiday Villa Hotel to experience it for myself, up close. 🏯 Architectural Impressions | Ancient wood meets modern renovation The sheer scale of the building is stunning, blending the traditional pavilion styles of the Miao and Han people. The renovation has created a fascinating collision of old and new, with rustic, intricate wood carvings paired with transparent, minimalist glass curtain walls. In the afternoon, sunlight filters through the wooden grilles, casting interlaced shadows along the long corridors, and the weight of the aged wooden framework is palpable. 🛏️ Mountain Stay Notes | Morning mist in the karst mountains is like a painting The hotel is located in the Zilinshan Resort area, surrounded by karst peaks. The room type I stayed in retained the original old wooden beams, giving it a rustic texture. A floor-to-ceiling window faces the rolling green mountains. When I opened the curtains in the morning, thin mist was winding between the ridges, and the distant mountains were hazy, like an unfolding ink wash painting. It was quiet in the mountains, with only the sound of the wind and birdsong. 🌿 Small touches of ethnic life In the morning, I ran into a housekeeper in the hallway. While tidying up the room, she was softly humming a Dong ethnic folk song, the melody gentle and soothing. This small moment added a human touch to the grand, imposing mega-structure, making it more than just a controversial landmark on the internet. ✨ A few personal thoughts I won't deliberately praise it, nor will I follow the trend of criticizing it. It has a unique architectural impact and carries the weight of past discussions. Rather than reading others' reviews, standing in the mountains myself and feeling the atmosphere where wood, light, shadow, and nature blend together was the most special takeaway from this trip.

🏨 Hotel introduction Originally the "Shuisi Building" that sparked heated online debate, this large-scale, all-wood structure is located in Dushan, Guizhou, and has received mixed reviews. 🔥 Highlights The building features intricate woodwork details. Sunlight filtering through the wooden lattice creates a fantastic play of light and shadow, making the structure itself a unique attraction. 🚗 Transportation guide Within walking distance of the Shuisi Building and about a 20-minute drive from Dushan High-speed Railway Station. Driving yourself is more convenient. 🛏️ Stay experience The rooms feature Chinese-style wooden decor and floor-to-ceiling windows. You can gaze out at the giant wooden building right from your room, which is a very special experience. 🍽️ Dining experience The restaurant serves authentic local Miao cuisine. You can also try the local rice wine. 📸 Photography tips The best time to shoot is during sunset between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, when the light is soft and you can avoid the harsh midday sun.

🏡 Heart of the Mountains. Jiafengyan. A 1h+ hike to reach the homestay. The first 40 minutes are almost entirely flat, with only the occasional need to dodge motorcycles carrying tourists. The last 1 km is like a training drill: there are no tourists at all on this stretch. After conquering 4 long, steep inclines that feel like a stair climber, passing through the village at the top of the mountain, and then descending to the bottom, you've arrived. We were the only group staying there on the day of our arrival, so it was exceptionally quiet. Whether in our room, Dante, or the restaurant, the view outside the window was nothing but greenery. After dinner, the host took us to a nearby small waterfall, passing by plenty of ornamental moss planted by the villagers. As night fell, the chirping of insects and birds grew louder, and the stars in the sky gradually became clearer 🌟 🌾 There are well-preserved, beautiful old houses in the nearby village. Most of the villagers are elderly and very friendly when they see tourists. 💦 From the parking lot to the homestay, you can play in the water almost the entire way, without the overcrowding issues found in most scenic spots. Plus, the water in Jiafengyan is crystal clear; even the homestay's drinking water comes from a mountain spring. The best place to play in the water is, of course, the Jiafengyan Waterfall, where the water is deep enough for diving. There is also a clear stream in front of the nearby campsite, where you can not only play in the water, but campers also chill watermelons and vegetables in it. 🍽️ If you don't want to hike back and forth + drive 2h to go out for meals, you have to book meals at the homestay. We really enjoyed the Guizhou home-style cooking. There are no convenience stores in the village, and the homestay doesn't have many drink options (we only had beer on the day we checked in), so if you have the energy, you can bring some yourself. 🚗 Departing from Duyun, it takes about 90 minutes to drive to the parking lot outside Jiafengyan. The "parking lot" only has a few spaces, and most cars have to park along the side of the mountain road. On a Saturday afternoon in summer vacation, you'll probably have to do what we did and park in a villager's field 2 km away... The last half hour is an incredible southwestern mountain road; the road conditions are good, but there are many sharp turns. Fortunately, the scenery along the way is nice. This Heart of the Mountains in Jiafengyan does not provide high-end homestay services in the conventional sense. After all, on the day we checked in, the entire homestay only had 3 staff members: the chef and the assistant were local villagers, and the host was an intern college student (but as a college student, the level of reliability was shocking; this kid could quickly become a key employee at any hotel). There are no travel photography services or intangible cultural heritage handicraft experiences nearby, and no sour soup hot pot. This is Jiafengyan, giving you only the purest summer experience.

Hidden atop the mountains in Qishan Village, Dushan, Guizhou, Puyu Wild Luxury is a true secluded sanctuary in the clouds. The drive up takes an hour, accompanied by clouds and mist the entire way. Once you arrive, all your fatigue will melt away. Rooms feature 270° panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows and terraces, allowing you to lie in bed and watch the sea of clouds roll by. In the evening, watch the sunset paint the mountains red, and at night, look up to see the Milky Way stretching across the sky. The cliffside suspended soaking pool is the highlight. Soak while overlooking the rolling mountains and capture stunning, atmospheric photos with ease. Guest rooms feature comfortable bedding, coffee machines, and high-end toiletries. 🍴Dining: We recommend the local sour soup hot pot. Breakfast offers a wide variety, and you can dine on the terrace. 🚗Transportation: Drive yourself or hire a car to get up the mountain. A helicopter experience is also available (CNY 3,000/trip). 💡Tips: There is a significant temperature difference between day and night in the mountains, so bring a jacket. Small insects can easily get in, so keep doors and windows closed. We recommend staying at least two nights to fully soak in the mountain tranquility. Experience morning hikes, afternoon tea on the terrace, and sunset soaks. Escape the city noise and immerse yourself in the slow life atop the mountain.

Tired of the city's hustle and bustle? Head to the peaks of Guizhou. As the car winds up the mountain and into the sea of clouds, you'll truly understand why this place feels like the secluded mountain wonderland where ancient scholars once lived. ✨ Entering a mountain wonderland Drive along the winding mountain roads, surrounded by endless karst peaks. The forests are lush and green, often blanketed by clouds that drift across the mountainside—sometimes as a light mist, other times as a rolling sea of clouds. The Neo-Chinese architecture rests quietly among the mountains, its understated silhouette blending seamlessly with the landscape. Large floor-to-ceiling windows open up to the wilderness, and standing in the courtyard, you are met with layers of green mountains as far as the eye can see. 🌿 Stay in a poetic mountain retreat The rooms are spacious and airy, with soft furnishings that carry an elegant, scholarly charm. Open the window to see rolling peaks and shifting clouds, framing the mountain scenery perfectly. Some room types feature private terraces or hot spring tubs; sit back on the terrace, brew a pot of tea, and just zone out. As the mountain breeze blows gently, the only sound is the wind through the trees, and the chaos of the world slowly fades away. Wait for the sea of clouds in the morning, and watch the sunset paint the mountains in the evening—life here is slow and peaceful. ☁️ Unmissable mountain experiences There's no need to rush through a checklist here. Take a leisurely stroll through the mountains to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the forest, or sit on the terrace to chat over tea while waiting for the sunrise over the clouds and romantic sunsets. Let go of your daily busyness, quietly enjoy the company of nature, and truly experience the relaxed state of mind that ancient poets found in the mountains. 📌 Travel tips ▪️ The road up the mountain is winding with many curves; please drive safely. ▪️ The altitude is high, and there is a significant temperature difference between day and night, so remember to bring a light jacket. ▪️ The mountain area is often rainy and foggy; keep rain gear handy. ▪️ We recommend traveling off-peak to better enjoy the mountain tranquility. No need to rush to crowded tourist hotspots. Find a retreat atop the mountains of Guizhou, watch the clouds rise and fall, listen to the mountain breeze through the trees, and immerse yourself in the leisurely poetry of the wilderness.

🌴I stayed at a very quiet old wooden homestay in the village this time, and I really didn't want to leave. 🌴The house retains the structure of an old wooden building, with wooden beams, stone walls, and tiled roofs that are full of history, but the interior isn't as dilapidated as you might imagine. The room was clean and cozy, with wooden floors, wooden windows, and white bedding—it felt especially comfortable when the sunlight streamed in. 🌴What I liked most were the large windows and the common area. Sitting by the window, I could see the courtyard and the greenery; daydreaming or reading a book in the afternoon made everything slow down. It was quiet at night, with no traffic noise or crowds, making for a very restful sleep. 🌴This place isn't for those seeking a lively nightlife, but it's perfect for anyone looking to escape the city and spend a few quiet days.

Finally stayed at the Dushan Shuisi Building, which has sparked so much debate online! After being renamed the Zilinshan Howard Johnson Hotel, my actual stay completely overturned my preconceived notions. ✨ As the world's largest pure-wood building that once went viral, this landmark—built over nearly 10 years at a cost of 500 million—is tucked away in the Zilinshan Resort in Dushan, Guizhou. Surrounded by mountains and water with an ethereal vibe, the magnificent texture I saw in person far exceeded what I saw in videos! The entire building features a pure-wood mortise-and-tenon structure. The lobby boasts a soaring dome, a giant crystal chandelier, and a spiral staircase, creating a perfect New Chinese-style atmosphere—every shot is a masterpiece. The room details are incredibly thoughtful, featuring standard double bathtubs—one allows you to lie back and gaze at the starry sky. Open the window to see rolling green mountains, and wake up to a burst of negative oxygen ions that heal all your fatigue. Getting around is worry-free; the hotel has both open-air and underground parking, with free parking for guests. Backed by the Jingxin Valley Scenic Area, the surrounding karst landscape is stunning. You'll find clouds swirling in the morning and brilliant night views of the architecture in the evening—it's a hidden gem that's perfect for photos. Setting aside the online controversy, you only truly understand after staying here yourself. With architectural aesthetics polished over 10 years and a perfect living experience, it is definitely a hidden vacation treasure in Guizhou that's worth a special trip!

Dushan water bureau building is located in Jingxin Valley Scenic Area, Yingshan Town, Dushan County. Originally planned as the "world's first water bureau building" integrating cultural elements of the Shui, Bouyei, and Miao ethnic groups, it once applied for three Guinness World Records: the tallest glazed ceramic building, the tallest building featuring Shui, Bouyei, and Miao ethnic elements, and the largest paifang. Later, it was left unfinished and became a notorious example nationwide—those who know, know. It has now been converted into a hotel, with a completely changed exterior. Nearby are buildings such as Kuiwen Tower, Yingshan Academy, and Linggong Ancestral Hall, as well as a large lotus pond, but no visitors, no one at all.

If you're truly tired of the fast-paced city life, you absolutely must visit the Qunshan Zhixin Jiafengyan branch! This was my most therapeutic and unforgettable mountain trip recently. This guesthouse is truly special; it's inaccessible by road and requires a hike deep into the mountains. Guizhou is home to world-renowned attractions like Huangguoshu Waterfall, Libo, and Xijiang Miao Village, but it offers much more. At Guizhou Linyun Travel Co., Ltd., this 176,000-square-kilometer mountainous kingdom is seen as a three-dimensional encyclopedia you can revisit again and again—each page revealing undiscovered corners. We refuse to reduce Guizhou to just a series of sights. Instead, we focus on providing every traveler with thoughtfully paced, well-structured, and open-ended in-depth itineraries that make one trip as rich as three ordinary ones. Reimagining Guizhou by “geographical units” to fully explore each region Guizhou’s fragmented terrain and diverse cultures make rushing through multiple cities in one day the worst approach. Linyun Travel divides the province into several independent, complete travel units so you can focus on one area at a time and truly explore rather than just pass through: · Central Guizhou unit (Guiyang–Anshun–Liupanshui): starting and ending in Guiyang, this unit covers the awe-inspiring Huangguoshu Waterfall, the karst wonders of Dragon Palace Cave, and extends south to Liupanshui, known as China’s “cool capital” with a summer temperature of 19°C. Ideal for first-time visitors with limited time; · Southern Guizhou Libo unit (Dushan–Libo–Pingtang): centered on Libo, the “green gem on the Earth’s belt,” connecting Maolan primeval forest, Yaoshan ancient villages, and the Pingtang China Sky Eye science base. A paradise for families and nature lovers; · Southeastern Guizhou cultural unit (Kaili–Leishan–Liping–Congjiang): linking core Miao and Dong cultural settlements like Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, Zhaoxing Dong Village, Basha Miao Village, and Xiaohuang Dong Village. Includes interactive experiences such as door-blocking wine, long-table banquets, and Dong grand songs.
