Zhinvali Water Reservoir is one of the most beautiful natural stops on the road from Tbilisi toward the Caucasus mountains. Surrounded by green hills and mountain landscapes, the reservoir is famous for its bright blue water and peaceful scenery. The viewpoint above the reservoir offers one of the most memorable views in the region. The contrast between the deep turquoise water, forested slopes, and distant mountains creates a perfect place for photos and a short break during a road trip. The area is closely connected with Ananuri Fortress, which stands on the reservoir’s shore. The combination of medieval stone walls and the calm waters behind it creates one of Georgia’s most iconic landscapes. The atmosphere changes with the seasons. In summer, the surrounding hills are bright green, while autumn brings warmer colors to the valleys. Even a short visit feels peaceful because of the open views and quiet mountain setting. Zhinvali Water Reservoir is more than just a scenic viewpoint—it is a place where Georgia’s nature, history, and famous mountain roads come together in one unforgettable landscape. #travel2026 #travel #georgia #tbilisi #zhinvali #zhinvalireservoir

Here is my 9-day itinerary for Azerbaijan and Georgia, a solo trip filled with unforgettable stories and beautiful memories. The journey began in Baku, Azerbaijan, a city with a unique charm that perfectly blends modernity with ancient history. DAY 1 On my first day, my feet led me through the labyrinth of cobblestone streets in the Old City, where the atmosphere of the past is still very palpable. The adventure then continued to the Carpet Museum, where I took a quick photo outside before soaking in the modern vibe at Deniz Mall. Day 2 opened my eyes to the architectural grandeur of the Heydar Aliyev Center and the dazzling Nizami Street, beautifully lined with tulips along the coastal road. Day 3 The trip got even more exciting on the third day with an open tour to the Candy Cane Mountains and Mount Shahdag, offering incredibly dramatic and colorful landscapes. Day 4 Exploring Gobustan, rich in ancient rock art, followed by a spiritual visit to the Bibi Heybat Mosque. I was also amazed by the unique Fire Temple and the natural phenomenon of Yanar Dag. Day 5 Afterward, the journey continued with a flight to Tbilisi, Georgia, where I took the day to rest at the hotel. Day 6 Exploring the Old Town of Tbilisi, Georgia. I wandered around the historic area, starting with a visit to Kvarts Coffee, the Tbilisi Opera House, and the Clock Tower. I didn't miss crossing the Bridge of Peace, which connects the old town to the modern side of Tbilisi. At the end of the bridge, I took a cable car up to see the Mother of Georgia statue. Day 7 With the help of a tour operator, I visited the serene Zhinvali Reservoir and the historic Ananuri Fortress, then continued the drive through the Gudauri Valley. I wrapped up my day with a visit to the Chronicles of Georgia. Day 8 The following days were all about taking it easy, starting with a visit to the main cathedral in Tbilisi, followed by souvenir hunting at the Dry Bridge Market, and importantly, savoring the delicious local Georgian dish, Khinkali. Day 9 Before wrapping up the trip, I took the time to head back to the Dry Bridge Market, soaking in every last moment of this truly unforgettable journey. Then, it was time to catch a flight to Istanbul, Turkiye.

#hiking #nationalpark This fantastically beautiful reservoir is located on the way to Ananuri fortress if you take Georgian military road. The best way to get there is by car. The views are magnificent there. I visited that place in September so it was quite chilly but the view was captivating nonetheless. It is believed that the water in the #reservoir is able to change the colors depending on the weather. Basically the reservoir is worth visiting if you really enjoy beautiful views. This place has everything: mountains covered in greenery, azure water, blue sky and fresh air. What else is needed? I would definitely recommend to have a picnic there, but you have to take the snacks with you because it’s gonna be difficult to find a store nearby.

Not every tourist makes it to the Truso Valley. And that's a shame! #Georgia is a mountainous country. Pure air, picture-perfect mountains, flocks of sheep, ancient monasteries, and mineral lakes—there's definitely something to see and explore here! Want to go on a hiking trek? No problem; the route is easy, even a child can handle it. Is it hard to walk? We'll pick you up in an SUV and guide you through the entire route. Cars can be found in Stepantsminda. If you rent one, it's an all-terrain option. I highly recommend visiting in the fall. October is a wonderful time for strolling through the valley. It's not too hot, and the colors are vibrant. You'll enjoy delicious shashlik at a local café. And the mineral spring water will invigorate you to keep walking and capture those breathtaking #tripmoments.

If you search for "Ananuri Fortress," the internet will show you hundreds of identical postcard-perfect photos: ancient stone towers rising above the vibrant turquoise waters of the Zhinvali Reservoir. That’s exactly what we were looking for when we headed there in early spring. But the reality was something else entirely! 📉 Reality: Harsh Spring Landscapes Instead of turquoise water, we were greeted by the exposed floor of the reservoir. In early spring (before the mountain snow begins to melt in earnest), the water level is at its lowest. You’ll see vast, dark stretches of rocky and silty flats. Does it look bad? Not at all—the landscape has its own monumental, almost cinematic feel. But if you’re going specifically for that "Instagram-perfect" turquoise water, plan your trip for summer or early autumn. In the spring, the reservoir won't give you those signature colors. 💡 Honest Notes & Nuances (What to be ready for): To ensure your trip goes smoothly, here are a few non-obvious facts that guidebooks rarely mention: Tricky Paid Parking: You’ll drive into the area without a hitch, but the surprise comes when you try to leave. Parking costs 5 GEL, and you only find out as you're exiting—there’s a man there who manually lifts the barrier once you pay. Be prepared and make sure you have cash. Four-Legged Sentinels: There are many stray dogs living around the fortress. Like most street dogs in Georgia, they are tagged and generally friendly, but they can be a bit persistent. Keep this in mind if you're uncomfortable around dogs. Free Admission: Unlike many historical sites, entering the 16th–17th-century fortress grounds is completely free. There are no ticket booths or hidden fees to explore the ancient churches and towers. 🗺️ How to Get There from Tbilisi The fortress is located along the Georgian Military Road, about 70 km from Tbilisi. By Car/Taxi: The most convenient way (about 1–1.5 hours). By Marshrutka (Minibus): From the Didube metro station in Tbilisi, take a minibus heading toward Gudauri or Kazbegi. The ride is dirt cheap—around 3-5 GEL. Just ask the driver to drop you off at the fortress. Verdict: Ananuri Fortress is definitely worth a visit for its rich history, the stunning stone carvings on the Church of the Assumption, and the views from the watchtower. The key is just managing your expectations for the season!
