❄️ Preface · In Sweden, I learned the joy of “just right” After spending half a month in Sweden, my biggest takeaway wasn’t the breathtaking scenery but the Swedish philosophy of life called “Lagom”—not too much, not too little, just right. They can smile while drinking hot lingonberry juice in an ice hotel at minus 20 degrees Celsius, and they can stop working exactly at 3 PM to fully enjoy a cinnamon roll with coffee. This country blends cold and warmth in a way that’s addictive. · -- 📍 Stockholm · The design museum floating on water This city is made up of 14 islands, with water just a few steps away. The cobblestone streets in the old town creak underfoot, and around the corner, you’ll find the glass facade of the modern art museum—a perfect balance of contrasts. ✨ Highlights · Subway art gallery: Spend one ticket to see the “world’s longest art gallery.” The wisteria mural at T-Centralen station is a must-photograph spot. At Kungsträdgården station, archaeological ruins are displayed as decorations—very hardcore. · Old town (Gamla Stan): Mustard yellow and brick red houses packed together. Explore the alleys to find the Nobel Museum. It’s small but full of substance. · Vasa Museum: A 17th-century warship that was salvaged and almost fully restored. Standing under the ship and looking up gives you goosebumps. · Monteliusvägen viewpoint: A secret spot in the southern district overlooking City Hall and Lake Mälaren. At sunset, the whole city turns golden. Locals like to bring a bottle of wine and sit here in a daze. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Swedish meatballs: Don’t just think of IKEA. Try the handmade ones at Pelikan, an old restaurant in Södermalm, served with lingonberry sauce and creamy mashed potatoes. The flavor is next level. · Cinnamon roll: Join the locals for fika. Fabrique or Svedjan Bageri are recommended. The dough is moist and soft, with just the right amount of sugar filling. Every bite is pure happiness. · Shrimp sandwich: Open-faced, piled high with shrimp, boiled egg, and dill fish roe sauce. One sandwich is filling. 📌 Travel tips · A single subway ticket is valid for 75 minutes and can be used on buses and ferries. Download the SL app to buy tickets directly. · Most museums are closed on Mondays. Thursday evenings often have free entry. Check the official website in advance. · -- 📍 Gothenburg · Sea breeze and roller coasters on the west coast Sweden’s second-largest city lacks the polish of the capital but has the rough and casual vibe of a port city. In summer, the sea breeze mixes with the screams from amusement parks—it’s exhilarating. ✨ Highlights · Liseberg amusement park: The largest roller coaster park in Northern Europe. Outdoor concerts are held on summer nights. The thrill level is maxed out. · Fish church (Feskekôrka): Looks like a church but is actually a seafood market. Fresh oysters with white wine, sitting by the pier in the breeze—pure enjoyment. · Haga old town: Rows of colorful wooden houses. Everyone has a giant cinnamon roll. Find a café and lounge for the afternoon. · Gothenburg archipelago: In summer, hop on a ferry to island-hop and bike around. Steam in a sauna on a deserted reef, then jump straight into the sea—this is a Swedish-approved summer ritual. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Seafood: The west coast is Sweden’s seafood kitchen. Pickled herring and smoked salmon at the fish market are must-tries. · Pea soup with pancakes: If you’re in Gothenburg on a Thursday, find an old restaurant and order this traditional meal. The Swedish military has eaten it for decades. 📌 Travel tips · Summer is the best season in Gothenburg. Archipelago tours and amusement parks are in full swing. · The city center is small. You can explore on foot or rent a bike. · -- 📍 Kiruna · The ice and fire saga inside the Arctic Circle Visiting Sweden in winter without chasing the northern lights is a missed opportunity. Kiruna is the northernmost town in Sweden. It’s truly cold, but the beauty leaves you speechless. ✨ Highlights · Icehotel: Rebuilt every winter with ice sculptures, ice rooms, ice beds, and reindeer skin sleeping bags. Sleep one night at –5℃ and revive yourself in the morning with a hot lingonberry juice. · Aurora sky station: Take a cable car up the mountain. It’s one of the world’s best spots to watch the northern lights. Sit by the fire eating cinnamon rolls while the green lights dance—it’s worth the cold. · Sami cultural experience: Feed reindeer, listen to traditional Sami chanting (Joik), stay in red wooden cabins, and experience the survival wisdom of the Arctic Circle’s indigenous people. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Reindeer meat: A traditional Sami ingredient. You can try it in Kiruna’s restaurants. The meat is firm and has a wild flavor. · Fermented herring: For the brave only. The can opens on the third Thursday of August every year. It’s best to eat outdoors, served with flatbread and onions. Imagine the taste yourself. 📌 Travel tips · Aurora season runs from September to March. Days are very short in winter. Plan your itinerary carefully to avoid traveling in the dark. · Dress in layers like an onion: windproof and waterproof outerwear + down jacket + wool base layer. All are essential. · -- 📍 Malmö · Where modern magic meets pastoral idyll The first stop after crossing the Öresund Bridge from Copenhagen, Sweden’s third-largest city. The twisting Turning Torso skyscraper distorts the skyline, while the southern Skåne countryside pulls you back to a slower pace of life. ✨ Highlights · Turning Torso: A twisted white skyscraper, one of Northern Europe’s tallest buildings. It looks like a sci-fi movie set. · Western harbor colorful houses: Cycle by the sea past rows of Instagram-worthy colorful houses. Every photo looks great. · Ven island: A hidden gem in southern Skåne. Cycle through wheat and rapeseed fields, holding a cinnamon roll while watching the Baltic Sea sunset. Ultimate healing. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Scandinavian wine: Believe it or not, Skåne has wineries. Solaris white grape wines are fresh and clean. · Princess cake: Green almond marzipan wrapped around cream and custard. You can find it in Malmö’s dessert shops. Looks as good as it tastes. 📌 Travel tips · Take the train from Copenhagen Airport across the Öresund Bridge. It’s just a half-hour trip to Malmö, perfect for a side trip. · The best time to cycle on Ven island is May to September. The rapeseed fields in bloom are stunning. · -- 📍 Västerås · The silent echoes of the Viking age If you’re tired of Stockholm, drive an hour west to explore real Viking ruins. No crowds here, just ancient stone ships and the sound of the wind. ✨ Highlights · Anundshög ancient burial mounds: Sweden’s largest and most important Viking site. Climb the huge mound for a panoramic view of wheat fields and stone ship formations. It’s cinematic. · Stone ship formations: Outlines of ships made from large stones, used by Vikings for rituals and gatherings. Walking among them, you can feel an ancient mysterious power. · Runestones: Scattered around, carved with Viking runes. Touching the cold carvings feels like a high-five across a thousand years. 🍽️ Food recommendations · Back in Västerås city, warm up with fish soup and crispy bread at a lakeside restaurant. Cozy and satisfying. 📌 Travel tips · Driving from Stockholm is easiest. The E18 highway takes about 1 hour. Parking is free. · The ruins are free to visit. The Viking farm and café at the entrance are only open in summer. Dress warmly if you visit in winter—the open wind is fierce. · -- 🍽️ Sweden food essentials Besides the above, these are also worth adding to your list: · Pickled herring: The soul of the cold table. Available in mustard, dill, and onion flavors. Eat with boiled potatoes and sour cream. · Crispbread (knäckebröd): A staple that lasts a year without spoiling. Spread with butter, piled with shrimp, or paired with cheese. A Swedish bakery must-have. · Lingonberry jam: A universal sauce. Goes with meatballs, pancakes, and oatmeal. Many Swedes pick lingonberries themselves from the forest to make jam. · -- 📋 Pre-trip essentials · Visa: Schengen area. Apply to the country where you’ll stay the longest. Prepare complete documents and don’t falsify your itinerary. · Safety: There have been recent thefts targeting tourists in Sweden. Don’t leave valuables in your car. Avoid showing off. Keep your bag close. Call 112 for emergencies, 11414 for non-emergencies. · Environment: Most hotels don’t provide toothbrushes or slippers. Bringing your own is more reliable. · Payment: Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) cover almost everything. Many places are cashless. Bring a small amount of Swedish krona just in case. · Language: Swedish is the main language, but English is widely spoken. Most young people can chat easily. · Culture: Swedes value personal space. Don’t stand too close in line. Speak softly in public. Tips are included in the bill and don’t need to be given separately. Sweden’s charm isn’t on a checklist. It’s in the scent of cinnamon rolls at 3 PM and in the moment of shivering wrapped in a sleeping bag on an ice bed inside the Arctic Circle, laughing out loud. Pick the direction you want most and just go.

At the City Hall, a Mandarin-speaking guide who was born in Fujian and has lived in Sweden for over 30 years actually knew that there is a Meilan Lake at the end of Shanghai Metro Line 7. So, the real Lake Mälaren is here! My fellow tour members rushed off to see the sights, but I decided to take it slow. I wandered aimlessly through the Old Town, enjoyed a scoop of rich ice cream, sat down quietly for a beer, and watched the people go by in the square ✌🌹

Stockholm is a city on the water. Public ferries are part of the public transport system, so you can use a transit card to ride them; don't buy expensive sightseeing cruises. 2. In summer, the "white nights" mean it gets dark very late; in winter, days are short, so plan your travel time accordingly. 3. Most museums are closed on Mondays, so avoid traveling on that day. 4. Prices are high, so set aside a sufficient budget for dining and accommodation. 5. Drottningholm Palace is a bit far from the city center, so it is recommended to set aside half a day to 1 day.

Drottningholm Palace is tucked away on Lake Mälaren, west of Stockholm, on the island of Lovön. It belongs to Ekerö Municipality, so it is also known as Ekerö Island. In 1991, it became Sweden's first UNESCO World Heritage site! Once the Swedish royal summer residence, it is now iconic, blending Nordic lake views, French Baroque gardens, a classical royal palace, oriental-style architecture, and English-style natural forests. It is truly the "Versailles of Sweden." 👑 As a royal summer residence, the palace and gardens are impressive! The main palace is built by the lake; it is not tall but wide, resembling an old university building. It features soft, light beige walls, dark gray copper-pitched roofs, and orderly long windows—simple yet dignified. It is said to be a Nordic take on Baroque style. Dome-topped side buildings flank it, and the lake reflects the palace, creating a stunning view. With blue skies, clear water, gravel paths, and classical marble statues, it is absolutely breathtaking! 😍 In photos, the pool during the day reflects the palace, and the shimmering reflections look just like an oil painting—every shot is a masterpiece. 📸 On sunny days, the light and shadows on the architecture are stunning, while rainy days offer a unique, hazy beauty. It is beautiful in any weather! I recommend visiting on a clear, sunny day to maximize your chances of capturing the perfect shot of the lake and the palace's reflection. 💯 A visit here lets you experience royal grandeur while immersing yourself in Nordic nature—it is truly moving! Between us, it is less crowded and more beautiful than city attractions, so be sure to add it to your Stockholm bucket list. ✨

Stockholm City Hall is one of the buildings in the city most worth exploring from the inside. It sits on the shore of Lake Mälaren, and while its red brick exterior is quite restrained, once you step inside, you will discover that the interior has a completely different atmosphere. The Blue Hall, despite its name, is not actually blue. The architect originally planned to paint the walls blue but later decided to retain the texture of the red brick. This is one of the venues for the banquet held after the annual Nobel Prize ceremony. The most magnificent space in the City Hall is the Golden Hall. The walls are covered in gold mosaics made of over 10 million small tiles, depicting Swedish history, the city, and mythological figures. When sunlight shines in through the high windows, the entire hall glows with a unique golden luster. When the weather is nice, you can climb the City Hall tower to overlook Stockholm's Old Town, the lake, and the city rooftops. The red brick buildings, blue water, and dense islands offer a quintessential Stockholm view. You usually need to join a guided tour to visit the interior of the City Hall, so it is recommended to confirm the daily schedule in advance. The entire visit takes about 1 hour. If you also want to climb the tower and take photos by the lake, you should set aside 2 hours. For photography, pay attention to the symmetrical composition, high windows, and human scale in the Golden Hall. Including a few people in the shot can actually better highlight the scale of the space.

#bucketlistdestinations If you’re curating your ultimate European travel list, add Riddarholmen Island in Stockholm straight to your top #bucketlistdestinationsns. Most travelers rush through Stockholm’s Old Town and City Hall, yet overlook this tiny magical island — and my visit here proved it’s one of Europe’s most underrated scenic masterpieces. I stumbled upon Riddarholmen casually during my Stockholm city walk, and it instantly became my favorite spot in the entire city. Connected to the bustling Old Town by a simple bridge, this small island feels like a hidden time capsule, separated from the crowded tourist crowds yet holding the most iconic Stockholm views. My most unforgettable travel moment happened during sunset, a scene I will never replicate anywhere else. I wandered along the quiet waterfront promenade, where calm Lake Mälaren stretches endlessly. The iconic Riddarholmen Church, with its striking iron spire and classic red-brick facade, stood tall under the pastel sunset sky. The golden dusk light spilled over the 17th-century noble buildings, reflecting perfectly on the still lake surface, creating a dreamy mirror-like view of Stockholm’s skyline. What makes this spot a true bucket-list worthy destination is its perfect blend of history, beauty, and tranquility. As Sweden’s royal resting place, the ancient church carries centuries of royal history and solemn charm. Walking the empty cobblestone streets, I felt peaceful and immersed in old European elegance. Unlike mainstream crowded attractions, Riddarholmen offers exclusive panoramic views of the City Hall and Old Town rooftops — the ultimate photography spot with zero crowds blocking your frame. This island isn’t just a scenic stop; it’s a pure travel treasure. It delivers historic depth, jaw-dropping sunset vistas, and quiet Nordic serenity all in one tiny area. 🏰 Stockholm City Hall | Hantverkargatan 1, 111 52 Stockholm This red brick building located on the shores of Lake Mälaren is absolutely spectacular! As a masterpiece of Swedish National Romanticism, it was designed by the famous architect Ragnar Östberg✨ and built with a full eight million red bricks! Every brick and tile is steeped in history~ 👑 Towering spire + golden crown The most eye-catching feature is the 106-meter-high tower, with three golden crowns on top that really stand out! They symbolize the historical ties between Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. You can see it from far away; it is definitely an iconic landmark of this city on the water! 🎉 The dream hall of the Nobel Prize Don't just focus on taking photos; this is the absolute center stage for the Nobel Prize season! On December 10, the Swedish royal family and international celebrities all gather here to celebrate~ 🍽️ Blue Hall banquet (although it is actually a red hall) 💃 Golden Hall ball (glittering and super romantic) The designer's whimsical choice: the promised Blue Hall was not painted blue, but keeping the original red brick color actually looks more sophisticated~ 💰 The Golden Hall is definitely worth a visit The Golden Hall on the second floor is definitely the most opulent part of the building! Eighteen million gold leaf mosaics cover the walls, along with huge murals telling the city's stories. The Goddess of Lake Mälaren is there to recount Stockholm's past and present to you~ (The image of an Eastern Chinese person in this mosaic is widely believed to be Kang Youwei, created by Einar Forseth. Due to the Orientalist prejudices of the time, it was drawn with stereotypical and caricatured techniques, reflecting the one-sided European perception of the East at that time.) 📸 Best photo tips: You must join an official guided tour to visit the interior. Climb to the top of the tower to get the most beautiful lake view of Stockholm. Every shot is Instagram-worthy; we recommend wearing light-colored clothing for better photos! ⚠️ Helpful reminder: Opening hours can be a bit complicated, so we recommend checking them in advance before you go. The view from the tower is amazing in the summer, and you might even stumble upon the Nobel Prize preparations~

“At 10:30 PM, sitting on the balcony, and it’s still bright outside.” This isn’t Versailles; it’s a typical July day in Stockholm. What’s it like to have 18 hours of daylight? After dinner, you go for a walk and the sun is still hanging in the sky, slowly refusing to set. Locals call this the "white night syndrome"—it’s clearly time to sleep, but the window is still bright, and you feel like you can’t waste the light✨ This time I spent two days exploring the Stockholm archipelago and the southern shore, sharing some truly off-the-beaten-path experiences— · · · 🌊 Day 1|Island hopping on commuter ferries, see stunning views for the price of a bus ride Many don’t know that Stockholm’s SL public transit system includes ferries! A 72-hour ticket (330 SEK) covers ferry rides with no extra cost. Three hidden gem ferry routes👇 “Route 80” Nybroplan → Ropsten About 1 hour total, passing Djurgården island, Nacka Strand, and Lidingö. The city skyline gradually gives way to forests and red wooden houses—each segment offers a different scene. It’s best to ride to the end and back; the two-hour round trip is more worthwhile than paying hundreds of kronor for a sightseeing cruise. “Route 82” Slussen → Djurgården A short trip that takes just minutes. But passing through the lock is super interesting—the Mälaren lake is 5 meters higher than the Baltic Sea, so the ferry lowers its water level when passing the lock. The first time you experience it, you’ll say “wow.” “Route 89” Klara Mälarstrand → Ekerö island A 50-minute ride starting near City Hall. Along the way, you’ll see Swedish summer villas ranging from modern glass boxes to century-old wooden houses—a floating architecture exhibition. ⏰ During summer peak, ferries run every 30–45 minutes. Check schedules live on the SL app. · · · 🛶 Day 2|Archipelago kayaking + fika afternoon tea on a deserted island Fika is the Swedish afternoon tea ritual—coffee with cinnamon rolls, no exceptions☕ This time I tried an amazing kayaking tour starting from Vaxholm pier, with an instructor guiding us deep into the archipelago. The 4-hour trip includes a stop at a deserted island, where we laid blankets on the rocks and enjoyed freshly brewed coffee and pastries facing the Baltic Sea. 📍 Vaxholm pier is about 50 minutes from downtown 🚌 Take bus 670 from Tekniska Högskolan station directly 💰 About 800 SEK per person (includes gear, guide, and fika) ⚠️ No experience needed; the instructor guides the whole way, suitable for beginners Paddling deeper, you’re surrounded by islands of all sizes. Some have only one red wooden cabin with a small boat parked outside. Swedes spend their summers living on these islands, far from everything—so enviable😭 · · · 🌅 Must-do at dusk|Watch the sunset from Katarina elevated walkway The best place to watch the sunset in Stockholm is the Katarinahissen elevated walkway—no contest. From here looking west: the old town’s spires and palaces on the left, the Baltic Sea inlet on the right, and Djurgården island’s green forest straight ahead. The sun slowly sinks from the horizon, the sky shifts from golden to pink-purple to deep blue, and the whole process lasts nearly two hours. 🕐 July sunsets are around 10:00–10:30 PM 💡 Arrive by 8:30 PM to catch the best light 📍 5-minute walk from Slussen metro station · · · 🏡 The guesthouse looks like this ⛰️ Located on a small hill near the water on Södermalm’s southern island, a five-minute walk from Slussen metro through a quiet alley. A peaceful neighborhood with a local community café downstairs. ⛰️ The living room has a full wall of floor-to-ceiling glass plus a tall vertical window on the side🪞 Amazing natural light. Facing northwest, you can see the sunset’s glow on the water in the evening—a pink-orange color no palette can replicate. ⛰️ The balcony has two canvas lounge chairs and a small wooden table🌿 At 10 PM it’s still bright outside. Wrapped in a blanket, lying on the balcony watching the clouds slowly change color with a glass of Swedish fruit wine in hand—this must be the peak of life✨ · · · 🎡 Bonus|Half-day stroll route on Djurgården island This island is right next to the old town, Stockholm’s backyard. It’s packed with museums, but the best way to enjoy summer is to do nothing but walk. Route: Enter the island via Djurgårdsbron bridge → walk along Rosendalsvägen to Rosendals Trädgård garden (outdoor café and freshly picked vegetable salads in summer) → continue east to Blockhusudden lighthouse, which offers a wide-open view of the archipelago entrance. 🚶 About 4 km total, 2 hours is enough 🎫 Garden and lighthouse are free 🍦 A small stand near the garden sells traditional Swedish ice cream—try the licorice flavor. Some love it, some hate it, haha · · · 📝 Practical info → Visa: Schengen visa, book appointment 2 months in advance. Visa centers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou → Currency: Swedish krona SEK, 1 SEK ≈ 0.68 RMB (reference rate July 2026) → Power plug: European two-round-pin, same as Germany. Remember to bring an adapter → Language: Swedish mainly, but English is widely spoken. Ordering food and asking for directions is no problem → Safety: Very safe overall. Walking in the old town and southern island at 11 PM is fine → Time difference: 6 hours behind Beijing time (daylight saving) → Must-have apps: SL (transit), Google Maps, Swish (local payments) · · · Stockholm’s summer is the kind of experience where “you think you’re just traveling, but your soul stays behind.” The old town glowing in the white night, red cabins drifting between islands, the sun never setting on the balcony… these scenes will keep shining in your memory. Before July ends, just go for it🫶

Arriving in Stockholm, the first stop is the city hall. The entire building is constructed with vintage red bricks. The rough red brick walls paired with staggered glass windows are covered with delicate green vines. The verdigris spire stands quietly under the clear sky, blending Nordic minimalism with medieval vintage aesthetics. Every corner of the exterior walls invites a slow, appreciative gaze. Following the stone steps inside, sunlight filters through the arcade, casting large patches of light and shadow on the marble floor. Tall stone arches extend in a row, the corridor is quiet and long, crystal chandeliers hang neatly, and warm light reflects off the wall reliefs, creating a solemn yet soft atmosphere. Walking with the guide between the blue hall and the golden hall, footsteps gently tap on the polished stone floor as the city’s millennia-old story flows softly in the ears. The golden hall is the most stunning part of the building, with entire walls covered in tens of thousands of gold leaf mosaic murals. The central mural depicts the goddess symbolizing Stockholm, surrounded by rippling water at her feet. On both sides, scenes from this land’s past to present are portrayed, including Viking voyages and everyday life, all condensed in shimmering gold. Light falling on the murals fills the room with golden brilliance, grand but never gaudy. Nearby, the blue hall features restrained and elegant lines. It is the venue for the annual Nobel banquet. Imagining countless top scholars and writers gathering here adds a profound cultural weight to this otherwise ordinary hall. After touring the indoor exhibition halls, step outside to the open-air platform where the view suddenly opens up. Many newlyweds choose this spot for wedding photos, with the red brick castle as a backdrop against the clear blue sky, naturally creating a romantic atmosphere. In the distance, the outline of Lake Mälaren is visible. The wind passes through the arcade, dispersing the indoor stillness and adding a touch of everyday life. Visitors stroll leisurely, some resting on the stone steps, others wandering the arcade to capture the light and shadow. A relaxed vibe runs throughout the city hall. People come from all over just to check in at the Nobel award hall, but what truly moves is the city’s story carried by the building. This was once the land where Vikings set sail, and now it nurtures a culture of equality and inclusion. From the wildness of ancient plundering to the gentle care for every ordinary person in modern civilization, the long transformation is hidden in the red bricks, gold leaf, and corridor shadows. As dusk approaches, the lakeside evening breeze brushes the red brick walls. Looking back at the city hall, this solid building is more than a landmark to check off; it is a window to understanding the spirit of Sweden. A stroll reveals a city’s gentle transformation over a thousand years. Travel tips 1. It is recommended to allow 2 to 3 hours for the visit, including the indoor exhibition halls, arcade courtyard, and outdoor platform. Following the guide helps you understand the history behind the murals and architecture. 2. The best experience is on sunny days, when the light and shadow effects in the arcade, exterior walls, and golden hall are especially photogenic. 3. The indoor exhibition halls require quiet visits. Some areas have barriers; please follow on-site instructions during your visit.

There is a thousand-year-old ancient town in Sweden called Mariefred, located west of the capital Stockholm, by the beautiful Lake Mälaren. It preserves the historical style of Northern Europe, with lake views, village scenery, red walls, and yellow buildings, making it a beautiful and lesser-known attraction. The monastery built in the 10th century in the ancient town was famous far and wide, but unfortunately no longer exists; the royal small castle was built in the 14th century and was once the residence of the Swedish royal family; Mariefred Church, built in 1624, is located in the town center, with a simple Baroque architectural exterior. The town also has an old narrow-gauge railway and steamships, adding a rich pastoral fairy tale charm.

🏰 First Impressions of Stockholm Originating in the 13th century, this fairy tale city built on 14 islands, whose Swedish name means "Wood Island," hides a fascinating historical story! 🥰 Early residents cleverly built a castle with huge logs on the island at the sea entrance to defend against pirates, also setting up wooden stake barriers—talk about ancient high-tech! The Old Town, which first became the Swedish capital in 1436, still preserves medieval stone alleys and stunning Gothic architecture✨ Walking through it feels like traveling back to the Middle Ages! 🌊 A Water City Wonder As an archipelago city located at the confluence of Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea, the city is filled with intersecting waterways and bridges of various shapes. Every snapshot looks like a Nordic masterpiece📸 Especially the canal sunsets in the evening—they are truly breathtaking! 💡 Travel Tips · The city covers a vast area: Stockholm County governs 26 towns · Population: About 2.4548 million in 2023 (a significant portion of Sweden’s total population) · Best season to visit: July to August (Nordic summer is picturesque) · Recommended transport: Water buses are definitely worth experiencing!

A Song of Ice and Fire by the Baltic Sea At the eastern end of the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe, where Lake Mälaren meets the Baltic Sea, Stockholm lies like a string of pearls lifted by the water, scattered across 14 islands and a peninsula. Over 70 bridges connect these islands like silver threads, earning the city the nickname "Venice of the North," yet it carries a unique Nordic chill and vastness that Venice lacks. Founded in 1252 by Birger Jarl, this city is not only the political and cultural heart of Sweden but also a Nordic epic written between water and stone. The soul of the city is hidden in the streets of the Old Town, Gamla Stan. As the best-preserved medieval city center in Northern Europe, every cobblestone here holds the code of time. Narrow streets wind like a maze, flanked by century-old buildings painted in bright yellow, brick red, and dark green, with flowers on the windowsills and vintage wrought-iron street lamps that soften the long Nordic winter days. The central Stortorget Square is the heart of the Old Town; once a medieval trade hub, it now hosts the Nobel Museum, which tells the story of Alfred Nobel and his ties to the city. Not far away, the Royal Palace of Sweden stands quietly, with over 600 rooms housing a millennium of Nordic royal history. The daily noon changing of the guard ceremony keeps the ancient royal traditions alive in the city's lifeblood. If the Old Town is Stockholm’s historical foundation, then the city’s numerous museums are its spiritual core. With over a hundred museums, the most stunning is the Vasa Museum. In 1628, the warship Vasa, adorned with more than 700 Baroque wooden sculptures and equipped with 64 cannons, sank just a few hundred meters into its maiden voyage in the Baltic Sea, sleeping in the cold waters for 333 years. In 1961, the ship was fully salvaged, preserving 95% of its original remains. Today, it stands quietly in the exhibition hall, its hull carvings still clear, silently telling the ambition and tragedy of the Age of Exploration. Every December 10th, the Blue Hall of Stockholm City Hall hosts the globally renowned Nobel Prize banquet. This red-brick building is where the brilliance of science and humanities converge, becoming the city’s most dazzling glory. Stockholm is never a city living only in history. The Nordic lifestyle philosophy, ingrained in its people, is vividly expressed here. The "Fika" culture permeates every corner of the city; it’s not just an afternoon coffee with a cinnamon roll but a ritual of consciously slowing down and embracing life. Whether office workers or elderly people on the street, everyone enjoys a moment of relaxation and warmth during their daily Fika. The principle of "Lagom," meaning just the right amount, allows the city to find a perfect balance between prosperity and nature—54% of the city’s area is covered by forests and water, with over 1,200 green parks scattered among the streets. Even in the city center, you might encounter deer and foxes on a stroll. The Baltic Sea breeze sweeps across the archipelago, brushes the spires of the Old Town, and caresses the glass facades of the New Town. Stockholm’s charm is never just about the shimmering waters of the "Venice of the North." It lies in its ability to preserve a millennium of medieval heritage while embracing the vanguard and gentleness of modern civilization, walking a uniquely Nordic pace between ice and fire.
