#bucketlistdestinations I left Goris at 8:40 in a shared taxi (2,000–3,000 AMD) to Halidzor, then rode the Wings of Tatev cable car—5.75 km, 11 minutes, 320 m above the Vorotan Gorge, 7,000 AMD round trip (card at the booth, cash for the taxi). The gorge below isn’t tropical, but late April moss coats the oak trunks, and the lower forest trail from the monastery down toward Devil’s Bridge (free, 45 min one-way) is the greenest walk in southern Armenia.
Tatev itself: 9th-century foundation, the Gavazan shaking pillar, St. Gregory Church, a medieval university courtyard. Entry to the complex is free; the cable car is the cost. I ate lunch in Halidzor guesthouse (3,000 AMD for dolma + bread), because the monastery kiosk only takes cash and charges 2x.
Mistake: I hiked down to Devil’s Bridge at noon in trail runners—the descent is loose scree, the mineral pools are freezing, and the path back up cooks you. Go at 16:00, bring sandals for the water.
Kindness note: a monk at the gate handed me a plum from the orchard, “za horu” (for the mountain).
Should a monastery charge for the view, or only for the ride?

🇦🇺 Perth Pink Lake Guide | Is Hutt Lagoon Really Worth the Long Drive?
If you're planning a road trip from Perth to Kalbarri, don't miss one of Western Australia's most surreal landscapes—Hutt Lagoon, better known as the famous Pink Lake.
Seeing a naturally pink lake with your own eyes feels almost unreal. Depending on the weather and sunlight, the lake changes from soft pastel pink to vibrant bubblegum pink and even shades of purple. It was one of the biggest surprises during my Western Australia road trip.
📍 Why is the lake pink?
The stunning colour comes from Dunaliella salina, a type of algae that produces beta-carotene in salty water. The colour changes throughout the day depending on:
· Sunshine intensity ☀️
· Cloud cover
· Water level
· Viewing angle
No two visits look exactly the same.
🚗 Self-drive from Perth
Driving is the best way to explore Western Australia's Coral Coast.
Perth → Geraldton → Hutt Lagoon → Kalbarri
Distance:
· Perth to Hutt Lagoon: around 5.5–6 hours
· Hutt Lagoon to Kalbarri: about 40 minutes
The roads are easy to drive with beautiful coastal scenery along the way.
📸 Best photo spots
There are several viewpoints along Port Gregory Road, and each offers a different perspective.
Some of my favourites:
✨ Wide panoramic lake views
✨ Reflection shots on calm days
✨ Drone photography (if permitted)
✨ Roadside viewpoints where the pink lake stretches beside the highway
The colours become even more dramatic under a bright blue sky.
🌸 Best time to visit
For the brightest pink colours:
✔️ Late morning to early afternoon
✔️ Sunny days
✔️ Spring and Summer usually offer stronger colours
Cloudy weather can make the lake appear pale pink or even lavender, which is beautiful in its own way.
💡 Helpful tips
· Bring sunglasses—the sunlight reflecting off the salt lake is very bright.
· There are limited facilities nearby, so carry drinking water and snacks.
· Combine your visit with Kalbarri National Park, Nature's Window, and the spectacular coastal cliffs for an unforgettable road trip.
· Fuel up before leaving Geraldton, as services become less frequent.
❤️ Final thoughts
Hutt Lagoon isn't just another scenic stop—it's one of those places that reminds you how incredible nature can be. Photos hardly capture the vivid colours, and watching the lake shift between shades of pink throughout the day is something you'll remember long after the trip ends.
If you're exploring Western Australia by car, this is absolutely one destination you shouldn't skip.

Day 4: Chasing Pink Lakes and Coastal Vibes in North Perth 🚗✨
Day 4 in Perth hit different! We kicked off the day from our stay in Geraldton, cruising straight to the iconic Pink Lake Lookout Point (Address: Port Gregory Road, Yallabatharra WA 6535, Australia — usually open 24/7 for those sunrise/sunset shots).
On the way, we rolled through Sandy Gully and got totally distracted by endless fields of blooming canola flowers (油菜花田). The yellow pop against the blue Aussie sky was just *chef's kiss*. Honestly, we HAD to stop on the roadside for a spontaneous photo shoot — the vibes were too killer to pass up! 🌼📸
The sunshine totally blessed us with a super pink lake. No cap, the colours were insane — think Barbie-core IRL! If you love epic nature content, get your phone ready, because we legit snapped like a thousand pics here. The lake was way more pink than I ever expected, and seeing it in person? Next level. 🤯
After soaking in those aesthetic views, we rolled out to Kalbarri National Park (Address: Via Kalbarri-Ajana Road, Kalbarri WA 6536, open 6am–6pm daily). First spot we drove through was Pot Alley, a crazy scenic lookout right off the main park road. As you cruise down, the sight of the Indian Ocean just *hits different*. Words literally fail — major goosebumps moment! 🌊🚙
If I had more time, I could seriously chill at Pot Alley all day, just vibing with the sound of waves crashing on the rugged coast. It’s hands-down my top spot up north and such a must-visit if you’re road tripping WA! Trust me, you’ll want to add this to your bucket list.
