Winter completely changes the way I see a destination. I’ve traveled to a few cold weather countries, but three stood out for very different reasons. Finland was probably the most magical. I stayed around Rovaniemi, where everything looked like a Christmas postcard. I also spent time in Levi, surrounded by snowy forests, and had one of those unforgettable evenings waiting for the Northern Lights. The cold was intense, but somehow I didn’t mind. Japan gave me a completely different winter experience. Sapporo was my favorite, especially with its snowy streets and warm bowls of ramen waiting everywhere. I also loved visiting Otaru, where the quiet canals looked beautiful under the snow. A winter trip to Hakuba would be perfect if you’re into skiing. Then there’s Switzerland. I took the train through the Alps and spent time around Zermatt and Lucerne. Seeing the mountains covered in snow from a train window was honestly one of the highlights of my trip. If I had to pick just one, I’d choose Finland for the atmosphere. But for scenery, Japan and Switzerland are hard to beat. #finland #rovaniemi #japan #sapporo #switzerland #zermatt

Traveling to Hakuba is one of those experiences where "the journey itself is just as much a part of the trip as the destination." This is especially true for the route from Tokyo, where the atmosphere gradually transforms from a bustling metropolis into the natural landscapes and mountains of Nagano Prefecture. Taking the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano allows you to experience the comfort of a train speeding through cities and suburbs before the surroundings slowly shift to lush greenery and mountains. Once you reach Nagano and transfer to a bus for the roughly one-hour ride into Hakuba, the views along the way become increasingly beautiful (Go NAGANO). My favorite part is when the bus begins to enter the valley, and the road winds through small villages, past wooden houses, and toward the distant mountain ranges. If you travel during the winter, the sight of trees blanketed in snow and the white-capped mountains makes it feel as though you are stepping into another world. For photography enthusiasts, I recommend sitting by the window and keeping your camera ready. The views along the way are mesmerizing almost the entire time, especially as you get closer to Hakuba and the Northern Alps begin to appear prominently. Even though the journey takes several hours, it never feels boring. Every time you look out the window, the scenery has changed, making the trip to Hakuba just as memorable as reaching the destination itself. Hakuba's scenery is stunning, particularly in the summer when the verdant mountains contrast against the sprawling Japanese Alps in the background. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and refreshing—perfect for relaxing and embracing a "slow life" pace. Along the way, you'll find clear streams, meadows, and small homes scattered amidst nature. On a clear day, the mountain views are so sharp that you’ll want to freeze time right there. For those who love to take photos, Hakuba is a destination where you can capture a shot at almost every corner—whether it’s the mountain vistas, narrow lanes, or the Japanese countryside. Its beauty isn't flashy; it’s simple, easy on the eyes, and makes you want to return season after season.

A once-in-a-lifetime Japanese summer fireworks experience, the Suwa Lake Festival is literally a scene straight out of a dream! ✨ With fireworks launching over the lake and reflecting on the water, the double spectacle in the night sky and on the surface is absolutely mind-blowing. A must-visit in Nagano! 🔥 Suwa Lake Fireworks Festival 📅 Date: August 15, 2026 📍 Location: Nagano Prefecture, Lake Suwa One of Japan's top-tier lake fireworks festivals, featuring tens of thousands of explosive shells! The fireworks reflect beautifully on the water, creating a stunning glow that land-based festivals simply can't match~ The festival grounds are super lively, filled with guys and girls in yukatas snapping pics, street food stalls, and beer stands—the ultimate festival vibe! 🚗 Getting There ▪️ JR: Take the JR line to "Kamisuwa Station" and walk about 15-20 minutes to the lakeside venue. ▪️ From Tokyo: About a 2.5-hour direct ride to Kamisuwa Station via the JR Limited Express. ⚠️ Traffic on the day of the fireworks is an absolute nightmare, so it's highly recommended to take public transit~ Parking spots are extremely hard to find! 📷 Recommended Photo Spots ✅ Main Lakeside Venue: Front-row seats for the fireworks + lake reflections. It has the biggest crowds and the best atmosphere! ✅ Opposite Shore (Distant View): Escape the crowds and capture a stunning panoramic shot of the lake and the night sky. ✅ Hot Spring Hotel Terrace: Stay at a lakeside onsen ryokan and enjoy the fireworks comfortably from your room~ (Super popular, so book early!) 🏨 Accommodation Recommendations ▫️ Lakeview Onsen Ryokan: Sui-Suwako Some rooms offer indoor firework views—watching them while soaking in an onsen is the absolute best! Prices skyrocket on the day of the festival, so it's highly recommended to book half a year in advance~ ▫️ Business Hotels in Kamisuwa: A great choice on a budget. Walking distance to the venue and high cost-performance! 🍜 Must-Eats Around Suwa, Nagano ▪️ Suwa Soba: Nagano's famous handmade soba noodles. Grabbing this for lunch before the fireworks is a guaranteed win! ▪️ Shinshu Miso Dishes & Mountain Veggies: Authentic local countryside cuisine! ▪️ Festival Stalls: Tamagoyaki, yakisoba, and candy apples—enjoy all the classic festival snacks~ 🗺️ Suggested Itinerary | Nagano 2-3 Day Guide Day 1: Depart from Tokyo → Kamisuwa → Stroll around Lake Suwa → Head to the venue at dusk for the 【Suwa Lake Fireworks Festival】, check into a lakeside onsen ryokan. Day 2: Hike in the Kamikochi / Hakuba area to experience the nature of Shinshu. Day 3: Chill and shop in Karuizawa, then head back. 💡 Practical Tips ▪️ August 15th is peak season, so accommodations and viewing seats sell out fast. Remember to book in advance! ▪️ Most of the lakeside venues are grassy areas, so we recommend bringing a picnic mat, bug spray, and water. It gets windy at night, so don't forget a light jacket! ▪️ In case of heavy rain, the fireworks might be postponed. Keep an eye on the official announcements before heading out! ▪️ The post-event crowd is insane, and the JR lines are super long. Consider leaving a bit later to dodge the rush~ 💥 An unforgettable dreamy lake fireworks experience of a lifetime. The Suwa Lake Festival in Nagano is a must-visit~

Courtyard by Marriott Hakuba is a tranquil retreat surrounded by nature. Whether you visit during the snow-covered winter or the lush green season, it offers a uniquely peaceful vibe. The breakfast is excellent, right in line with the Marriott standard. The yogurt paired with fresh fruits is absolutely divine!

In April 2025, we had the opportunity to visit Hakuba. For this trip, we flew from Nagoya to Niigata, then rented a car and drove over 200 kilometers. Hakuba is a town surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is home to several world-class ski resorts, making it absolutely packed with people in the winter. Since we're travelers who prefer peace and quiet, we decided to escape here in the spring instead. Our first stop was Oide Park. Here, you'll see a crystal-clear stream set against a backdrop of snow-capped mountains contrasting with the vivid blue sky—it's a truly breathtaking sight. Just a short walk away, there are a few traditional houses to admire. Entry is free, and parking is complimentary but limited. Afterward, we drove around town, pulling over to take photos wherever we spotted a beautiful view. A quick heads-up for those driving: make sure to do your research on parking beforehand. Japan isn't a country where you can just park anywhere you please. If you're unsure where to go for your next trip, I highly recommend visiting Hakuba. It's absolutely gorgeous! Self-guided trip

#underratedspots Nakatsugawa is one of Japan's most underrated towns. It's so close to Nagoya that I can hardly believe how many travelers (including myself) simply overlook it. Most people head for Takayama, Matsumoto, Nagano and/or Hakuba while Nakatsugawa rarely gets a mention. I myself only ended up here because I needed a place to stay before hiking the Nakasendo Trail. Little did I know that the town itself would become one of the highlights of my trip. Like Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku, Nakatsugawa was once an important post town along the Nakasendo. Although it has become more urbanized (than Tsumago and Magome) over the years, it still preserves sections of the original trail that run through the town allowing people to experience a piece of its history without the crowds. Another thing I loved was the food. The town is full of excellent local restaurants serving delicious meals at very reasonable prices. It feels like the kind of place where locals still outnumber tourists and that gives it a much more relaxed and authentic atmosphere. If you enjoy exploring small towns, I highly recommend making a stop in Nakatsugawa. Don't just pass through. Don't hesitate to stay at least one night if you can. I actually stayed several nights and used it as a base for day trips to places like Tsumago-juku and Magome-juku. Looking back, every minute I spent in Nakatsugawa was worth it. It may not be famous, but for me, it was one of the most memorable places I visited in Japan. #nakatsugawa #nakasendo

🌸 Unseen Japan!! An In-Depth Chubu-Hokuriku Road Trip: A unique way to explore Japan on an affordable budget This is a review of our incredible 8-day road trip (April 17-24, 2026), where we set out to experience the majestic nature of Japan's Chubu and Hokuriku regions. Our journey began in Nagoya (NGO), took us to Mt. Fuji, then headed north to the Japan Alps, before looping back to Nagoya. It was a thrilling and rewarding trip that gave us an "unseen" experience you simply can't get by sticking to the big cities. 🚗 Transportation (Road Trip): The experience of driving through the Alps Our main mode of transport was a rental car for the entire trip, which gave us the ultimate freedom to pull over and take in the indescribably beautiful scenery along the way. The drive from Mt. Fuji toward Chubu and Hokuriku was especially stunning, taking us through forests and past snow-capped mountains. The roads were easy to navigate, traffic was light, and the signage was clear. Just make sure you don't forget to bring your International Driving Permit! 📌 Car Rental: Great value and super convenient for heavy packers We booked our rental car through Trip with Nissan Rent a Car at NGO Terminal 2. We went with a Nissan Roox, which turned out to be an excellent choice for a two-person road trip because it was cost-effective, nimble, and fuel-efficient. The best part? We managed to fit up to three 24-inch suitcases in the back. It made for a completely worry-free rental experience. 🏨 Hotels: A great mix of accommodations with stunning views We stayed in a wonderful variety of comfortable hotels, ranging from a room with a Mt. Fuji view in Kawaguchiko (Villa Ensoleille) to city hotels like The Celecton Matsumoto and Toyama Manten Hotel. The absolute highlight was HOTEL AMANEK Hidatakayama, where we spent 2 nights. It offered a lovely traditional Japanese vibe and was the perfect home base for exploring Takayama city and Kamikochi. 🏔 Must-Visit Spots: Highlights you can't miss Fuji, Lake Kawaguchiko Kamikochi: The crystal-clear river and snowy mountain views are unmatched. Matsumoto Castle Hakuba: Snow Peak, AO Lakeside Cafe Oide Park: We got to see cherry blossoms with an incredibly scenic mountain view. Funagawa River Tulip Field And the snowy mountain landscapes in the Hokuriku region. Cafe ISOMI Terrace: Watch the landmark train in Toyama. Japan Alps: Shinhotaka Ropeway And whatever you do, don't miss stopping in Takayama for some Hida beef! ✈️ Flights: A smooth start to the journey We took a direct flight from Bangkok (BKK) to Nagoya (NGO). 💸 Budget per person: Including the car rental, it came out to about ~50,000 THB per person. This is an incredible value for an "unseen" experience and the ultimate freedom of an 8-day spring road trip in Japan.

The stunning views of the Japanese Alps surrounding the town are so captivating that I want everyone to see it for themselves at least once! ✨ A roundup of must-visit highlights in Hakuba: 📸 You'll spot this view the moment you walk out of JR Hakuba Station. The Happo Pond is an absolute bucket-list spot in Hakuba you just can’t skip! 🌲✨ But here’s the truth—getting there is a whole adventure in itself. 🚗 Hakuba Day Trip From Matsumoto Before Heading Back to Tokyo | June 2, 2026 On the last day of our trip before heading back to Tokyo, we opted for a day trip to Hakuba, driving out from Matsumoto early in the morning. Our first stop was AO Café, a mountain-view cafe that honestly exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere was incredible, offering sweeping views of nature. The food and drinks were delicious—a perfect spot to chill before hitting the road again. Next, we drove to Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort and took the gondola to the top. There's an extra charge for this, but it’s absolutely worth it. The view of the Japanese Alps right in front of you is simply breathtaking. At the top, we stopped by The City Bakery to refuel. The pastries and food were fantastic. Eating while soaking in the mountain views gave off such a great vibe. If you still haven't had enough, you can take another lift over to CHUMS Camp, an adorable photo spot perfect for camping enthusiasts. It boasts gorgeous views, plenty of photo ops, and it's just super fun to stroll around. By the afternoon, we were getting hungry, so we drove back down to hunt for some local food. We stumbled upon a hidden gem on Google Maps called Matsu Bokkuri Hakuba (松ぼっくり〜自然派美味処〜). It’s a cozy, homey little restaurant serving set meals, with a daily special to choose from. The food was tasty, the ingredients were fresh, and the prices were super affordable for the quality. I highly recommend everyone to check it out! Before wrapping up the trip, we visited Oide Park, a major highlight in Hakuba where you can see a wooden bridge, a crystal-clear river, and snow-capped mountains in the background. It looked straight out of a postcard and made for the perfect final memory to close out our trip. Afterward, it was time for the long drive back to Tokyo, carrying wonderful memories from Hakuba. It really proved that this place isn't just amazing in the winter—it’s so stunning in the summer that I already want to come back. 📍 AO Café 📍 Hakuba Iwatake Gondola 📍 The City Bakery Hakuba 📍 CHUMS Camp 📍 Matsu Bokkuri Hakuba 📍 Oide Park My first time in Hakuba... and definitely not my last ❤️🏔️

If you're looking to experience a different side of Japan, far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, the Japan Alps is an absolute must-visit destination. It boasts towering peaks, lush unspoiled nature, crystal-clear lakes, and quaint villages tucked away in picturesque valleys. Spanning across several prefectures including Nagano, Gifu, Toyama, and Niigata, the region is divided into the Northern, Central, and Southern Alps. However, the most highly sought-after spots include Kamikochi, the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Hakuba, and Shirakawa-go. Your journey can easily begin from Tokyo or Nagoya. Simply hop on a Shinkansen to Nagano or Matsumoto, then transfer to local trains and buses to reach the various scenic attractions dotted throughout the region. Key highlights include Kamikochi, a pristine valley widely regarded as one of Japan's most breathtaking natural landscapes; the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, famous for its towering snow walls in the spring; and Hakuba, a renowned resort town offering world-class hiking and skiing. The prime times to visit are from April to May to marvel at the snow walls, and from October to November for the spectacular autumn foliage. Meanwhile, summer is absolutely perfect for hiking and immersing yourself in the great outdoors. The Japan Alps is the ultimate getaway for nature enthusiasts, avid photographers, and anyone yearning to discover a serene and stunningly beautiful side of Japan that lies off the well-trodden tourist path.

🚆❄️ Review of the easiest way to travel from Tokyo (Shinjuku) to Hakuba without multiple transfers. For anyone planning a trip to Hakuba and wanting to avoid lugging luggage and changing trains or buses multiple times, I highly recommend this route. It's very convenient! I booked a direct ticket from Shinjuku to Hakuba. There is one flight per day. 🕗 Outbound: Shinjuku 08:00 Arrive: Hakuba 11:40 ⏱️ Duration: 3 hours 40 minutes 💴 Price: 8,270 yen 🕐 Return: Hakuba 13:43 Arrive: Shinjuku 16:26 ⏱️ Duration: 3 hours 43 minutes 💴 Price: 8,270 yen The advantage is that you can travel directly from Tokyo to Hakuba without changing trains at Nagano or other stations. This is perfect for those with large suitcases. Or perhaps you don't want the hassle of changing trains multiple times. 📌 However, one thing to remember is that there's only one train per direction per day. Therefore, be sure to check the schedule and allow plenty of travel time, because if you miss it, you'll have to find an alternative. Overall, it's a convenient, energy-saving way to travel and helps you start your Hakuba trip comfortably. If you're planning a trip during winter or want to see beautiful nature, I recommend this route! 😊❄️🏔️ #Hakuba #hakubajapan #howtogettoHakuba #traveljapanonyourown

In June, the snow on the mountain peaks has already melted, guys. We visited Hakuba and the atmosphere is absolutely amazing! It's only 16-19 degrees Celsius, but I highly recommend bringing a jacket. It gets extremely cold and super windy up at the top. We took the cable car up via the Iwatake Gondola Noah. It's nice to drop by and enjoy the slow life in the countryside. For this trip, we stayed in Matsumoto. We didn't stay in Hakuba because it's an easy drive back and forth. If you come here, don't forget to try the Yoo Hoo Swing! It's 500 yen per person, and the staff will even film a video for you. That's it for this quick review. Thanks for stopping by!

If you're visiting Hakuba and plan to enjoy a slow-paced vibe or a picnic by the stream, we highly recommend this place: Oide Park 🏞️ Before heading to Iwatake, we stopped by here first. This place is called "Oide Park," and it's a cozy little park. There's free parking, and locals love bringing their dogs for a walk here. We went on June 10, 2026. The weather was perfect at 19 degrees. The sun wasn't too intense, but the breeze was incredibly cool. For a Hakuba trip in June, the snow on the mountain peaks has almost entirely melted. You'll see lush green mountains that are absolutely gorgeous and serene. If you're coming, we recommend bringing a light jacket. And pack a folding umbrella too, because we did experience a light drizzle. For this trip, we rented a car and had a blast driving around. If you're traveling to Matsumoto and have plans to visit Hakuba, don't forget to drop by Oide Park!

Hakuba is the trendiest spot right now✨ I visited in late May. ⭐️ Getting there: A ~1 hour 30-minute drive from Matsumoto City ⭐️ Highlights · Gondola lift up the mountain, taking about 15 minutes. At the top, there's a cafe and plenty of activities to choose from, such as: • Yoohoo Swing, a giant swing with views of the Japanese Alps · Mountain biking or mountain carting down the hill 🚲 · An open-air chairlift to take in the views · The City Bakery: A cafe with absolutely stunning views, offering pastries, drinks, and a great photo spot📷 ⭐️ Cost: Gondola ticket 2,900¥ Japan

Hakuba is a small village nestled in the Japanese Alps of Nagano Prefecture. Renowned for its stunning natural beauty, it is one of Japan's most famous skiing destinations and even hosted the 1998 Winter Olympics. During the winter, Hakuba is blanketed in high-quality powder snow, making it perfect for skiing and snowboarding. There are numerous ski resorts to choose from, catering to both beginners and experienced riders. In the summer and the autumn foliage season, visitors can go hiking, take scenic gondola rides, and get up close to the breathtaking mountain nature. The village offers a peaceful atmosphere with friendly locals, alongside a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and accommodations. It's the perfect getaway for families, couples, and nature lovers looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Hakuba in December It's the kickoff to the winter travel season. Some ski resorts just open up around early to mid-December. The powder might not be incredibly deep or fluffy everywhere just yet. If you want a guaranteed snowstorm and bottomless powder, you should definitely head up to Hokkaido. But if you're looking for an authentic Japanese atmosphere mixed with an awesome international vibe, this is the place to be! Hakuba offers a massive selection of ski slopes, and about half the staff are internationals. If skiing isn't your thing, there’s still plenty to do—hit up the local cafes or ride the giant swing out toward the mountains for some absolutely breathtaking views. Just strolling around the charming village is a total vibe. Even if the snow hasn't reached its peak fluffiness, there’s still a solid base, so the slopes are perfectly fine for riding. Honestly, nothing can really replace the unique vibe of Hakuba. The village might be small, dining options are a bit limited, and buses stop running early, but you can always grab a taxi. Overall, it’s super convenient to get around even if you don't rent a car. You have to experience it at least once—see if you fall in love with it too! This time, we stayed at a homestay called Ikeda Life Kan for a true rural Japan experience. You really get to immerse yourself in the local lifestyle, and it's located right next to Oide Park, making it a super easy walk.

📌 Introduction: A Legendary Wooden Cabin Resort Hidden in the Hakuba Forest, Carrying Olympic Glory Hakuba Village in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, has long been hailed as a pilgrimage paradise for ski lovers in Asia and around the globe due to its top-tier powder snow (Japow). Among the many exotic resort hotels in Hakuba, Mominoki Hotel Hakuba stands strong with its unique historical status and grand resort scale. This hotel carries abundant glory, having been one of the designated official accommodations hosting top athletes from various countries during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Although time has passed and its hardware may not be as novel as those newly built, futuristic next-gen boutique hotels, staying in this exquisite, historic hotel—with traces of time carved everywhere—allows you to feel a uniquely profound and elegant charm as you touch the wood textures and listen to the crackling firewood in the fireplace. 🪵 Lobby and Indoor Environment: A Magnificent Symphony of a Medieval European Ski Chalet and Japanese Tradition From the moment you step into the hotel, you will be blown away by its grand and incredibly welcoming public lounge space. 1. High-Ceiling European Chandelier Lobby (Lobby Lounge) The hotel's high-ceiling lobby is full of dramatic tension. The entire lobby adopts the rugged style of traditional American and European snowy mountain chalets, with massive wooden beams reaching straight up to the arched glass dome. The center of the lobby is covered with a vintage dark green carpet, thoughtfully arranged with a full set of plush, comfortable classic carved sofas and solid wood coffee tables. In the corner sits a huge, quietly burning real-wood fireplace. Accompanied by the crackling fire, sitting on the sofa and looking out at the towering cedar trees and the night view makes you feel as if you are in a luxury resort in the European Alps. 2. Olympic and Ski History Memory Display Wall Walking through the lobby to the inner section, a vintage stone wall made of irregular, rugged marble blocks neatly hangs and displays dozens of extremely historic, purely handmade antique wooden skis, old-fashioned leather snow boots, and bamboo ski poles that can even be traced back to the mid-last century. On the antique carved solid wood cabinets, there are exquisite Tiffany-style stained glass table lamps, rustic Japanese clay pots, and traditional woven straw hats. The wooden plaques on the wall record the hotel's glorious memories of hosting Winter Olympic athletes, maximizing the rich nostalgic atmosphere of skiing history! ⛺ Outdoor Highlight: A Dreamy and Dazzling Glamping Area in the Forest Mominoki Hotel Hakuba boasts a proud geographical advantage. The hotel covers a considerable area; in addition to the main building, it extends into a vast, dense, and mysterious primeval forest. And the design that amazed me the most in the resort is the outdoor glamping area hidden in the middle of the forest! After night falls, a "galaxy of lights" made up of countless dazzling string lights weaves through the tall, towering pine and birch woods. In the center of the forest stand several giant, pure white Instagram-worthy starry sky tents. The front of the tents features a fully transparent panoramic window design, offering a faint glimpse of the luxuriously arranged white sofas, totem rugs, and cozy hammocks inside. Outside the tent, an independent solid wood viewing terrace is set up, furnished with a grand long wooden dining table, director's chairs, and vintage kerosene lamps. A roaring bonfire pit is also lit in the open space. Many guests sit around the fire, sipping red wine and chatting, enjoying the ultimate luxury glamping vibe under a sky full of stars and the sounds of chirping bugs and birds. It's romantic to the core! 🍽️ Top-Tier Taste Bud Storm: An Incredibly Rich and Exquisitely Delicious "Full Buffet Dinner" If the glamping area is a visual feast, then the hotel's buffet dinner is a taste bud storm that strikes right at the soul! The dinner here is served fully buffet-style. Not only is there a wide variety of dishes, but every single item is exquisitely prepared and delicious, completely breaking the stereotype of traditional hotel buffets. A Dazzling and Luxurious Food Station: Cold Dishes and Ultra-Fresh Seafood Boat: The most shocking thing at the station is the ultra-fresh sashimi platter covering an entire carved wooden Japanese boat! It is loaded with glossy and plump salmon, crystal-clear tuna, sweet sea bream, octopus, and other freshly sliced sashimi. Right next to it is a pile of various delicate Japanese cold tofu and sesame cold-tossed seasonal vegetables. Hot Food and Exotic Kappo Feast: The hot food station is equally impressive, featuring rich black curry elegantly served in Staub cast iron pots, aromatic spiced beef stew, Japanese-style white sauce chicken stew, and even large pieces of juicy whole-cut beef steak sizzling on the grill, alongside pan-fried and salt-grilled river fish. Exquisite Dessert Platter Finale: To wrap up the dinner, the dessert station is absolutely spectacular. The restaurant thoughtfully prepared dozens of French and Japanese pastries cut into neat little squares, such as double-layered berry mousse cake, Black Forest mousse cake, Japanese matcha wagashi warabimochi, and mixed fruit jelly. The taste was absolutely heavenly, bringing this dinner to the most luxurious conclusion! 💡 Practical Traveler Stay Notes & Honest Thoughts Hotel Name: Mominoki Hotel Hakuba (白馬樅の木ホテル) Hotel Address: 4683-2 Hokujo, Hakuba, Kitaazumi District, Nagano 399-9301 Japan Real Stay Experience & Money-Saving Tips: I chose to stay at this hotel in early summer, in June. Although, as everyone knows, once the snowy winter peak ski season arrives, room rates skyrocket and it's extremely hard to book a room, I must genuinely recommend this to everyone: staying in early summer in June is truly so much cheaper and more affordable compared to the snowy winter peak season! Yet the scenery before your eyes remains just as beautiful and healing—the mountains and plains are completely covered in lush, verdant forest greenery. Sitting in the forest glamping area at night, enjoying the cool mountain breeze and counting a sky full of stars, the value for money is off the charts! This early summer experience was absolutely perfect, but it also planted a deep seed in my heart. I am looking forward to having the chance to stay here again during the freezing, snowy winter to truly unlock a grand skiing adventure!

Because the views are so stunning that we never wanted to leave. This is Hakuba, a charming little village in Nagano. Featured spots: · Ao Lakeside Cafe · Happo Pond · The City Bakery Hakuba · The road leading to Oide Park · Snow Peak Land Station Getting here: We rented a car and drove all the way from Nagoya, everyone!

When it comes to a mountain view cafe that's "literally as beautiful as a wallpaper," we absolutely have to hand it to Hakuba Mountain Harbor - The City Bakery. ⛰️☕✨ Located high up on a mountain in Hakuba, you have to take a gondola to get there. But the second you reach the top, you instantly get why everyone makes the trip up. 🥹 The panoramic view of the Japanese Alps right in front of you is absolutely breathtaking—it looks straight out of a painting. Especially on a clear day, your entire field of vision is filled with a stunning lineup of snow-capped peaks. 🤍 The cafe features a cozy wooden interior with massive glass windows that let you soak in the view, but the outdoor terrace is the real highlight. 📸 Many say it offers "the best view in Hakuba," and we totally see why. Their signature menu items are the pretzel croissant and hot chocolate. Enjoying them in the crisp mountain air is just pure bliss. 🥐☕ Even when it's crowded, the vibe remains so peaceful—perfect for just chilling, admiring the mountains, or snapping endless photos. Autumn and winter each have their own unique charm. 🍁❄️ In winter, the snow-covered mountains look totally cinematic, while in autumn, the fiery orange and red leaves pop beautifully against the mountain backdrop. Many reviews agree that even if you don't ski, coming just for this cafe is totally worth it because the view truly makes it a world-class destination cafe. It's a cafe that offers way more than just good coffee; it's the kind of spot where you just want to sit back, stare at the scenery, and never rush to leave. 🌿✨

Ready for a breath of fresh mountain air? Let me show you Hakuba — specifically, the hidden gem called Oide Park, tucked in the so-called "northern alps" of Japan. 🌲🌄 You won't find crowds here, just pure nature vibes and jaw-dropping scenery. Top Spot to Visit: Oide Park (Hokujo, Hakuba, Kitaazumi District, Nagano 399-9301) is open all year, 24 hours a day. It’s super easy to access, and staying late or arriving early means you get those golden hour moments all to yourself. My tip: wander past the main viewing area for a quieter slice of the park — you’ll be surrounded by pine branches and epic snow-capped peaks. Perfect for nature shots or just zoning out. Don’t miss the wooden bridge and views of the icy river below! Travel Hacks: Getting there is smooth: take a local bus or taxi from Hakuba Station. The area is walkable, and renting a bike lets you explore further along the rivers and between villages. Bring water and snacks — there aren’t many shops nearby. Even on sunny days, it can get chilly near the glacial rivers so layer up! Food Recommendations: Try the local soba (buckwheat noodles) at family-run restaurants in Hakuba village — warm, hearty, and the perfect pick-me-up after a day outdoors. Key Destination Tips: No visa needed if you’re coming from most Western countries, but always check the latest Japan entry rules. Japanese yen is king, and ATMs are sometimes scarce outside town, so grab cash before heading to Oide. Weather changes fast — pack a light raincoat even if it’s blue skies. #HakubaAlps #NatureVision #OidePark #JapanTravel #MountainMagic

I had the opportunity to visit Hakuba in April 2026. We traveled by rental car. We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano, picked up our car in Nagano, and then drove to Hakuba. Since we arrived in the evening, our first stop was the ao Lakeside Cafe. Afterward, we went looking for a place to have dinner. Being in the countryside, it was quite difficult to find a restaurant, and most places closed early. We eventually ended up having ramen and stayed for one night. The next morning, we drove to see the cherry blossoms at Oide Park. It was right during full bloom, and the view was as beautiful as a painting.
