Himi City, Toyama Prefecture. During my recent trip to Toyama, I visited the Himi Ganpeki Market. I arrived around 1:30 PM on a weekday, and there were already a few people in line. I waited about 10 minutes to order, and it took another 20 minutes for the food to be served. This time, I ordered the Wild Yellowtail Rice Bowl for ¥2,000. It came with a side of fishball soup and was quite a generous portion. The wild yellowtail was incredibly fresh, wonderfully fatty, and absolutely delicious. They also sell alcohol, so I treated myself to a beer and some fried fish cakes. Inside the facility, you can also buy deli items and sashimi, which you can enjoy right there with your meal. Plus, you can also purchase souvenirs. The view from my seat was lovely, making for a very relaxing dining experience. I highly recommend giving yourself plenty of time when you visit. When visiting Toyama, you definitely have to snap some shots at this iconic spot. At Amaharashi, you can capture a beautiful small island with the Japan Alps in the background on a clear day. I also made a side trip to Himi! I got to photograph another island that's more off the beaten path, grab a bite at the most famous fish market restaurant in the prefecture, and stroll around the market itself. If you're already at Amaharashi for the main photo spot, I highly recommend driving a little further to Himi. The views are absolutely stunning, and the food is out of this world! For that popular shot with the train, head up to the 2nd floor of the Road Station Amaharashi. The parking lot there fills up fast, so if you drive just past the intersection toward JR Amaharashi Station, you'll find plenty of tucked-away parking spots. You can easily check the train schedules by tapping on Amaharashi Station in Google Maps to see the arrival times and plan accordingly. Plus, the railroad crossing alarm will give you a heads-up when a train is approaching. You'll get two photo opportunities pretty close together: when the train arrives and when it heads back, which are about half an hour apart. After that, you'll have to wait nearly two hours for the next one! As for Himi, here are my top restaurant recommendations: · Kaisen Himimae: An amazing conveyor belt sushi joint. The wait is super short, only about 10 minutes. Their Nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch), miso firefly squid, and Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) are simply the best. · Himi Fishing Port 2F Fish Market Restaurant: Located right on the second floor of the fish market, this place gets super packed. You can grab a queue ticket and scan the QR code to track your spot. The wait is usually around 1 to 2 hours, but their seafood rice bowls and Buri (yellowtail) shabu are highly recommended!

The first time I ever heard the name "Himi" was when my sister gave me a pack of udon noodles. We started from Kanazawa, took the IR Ishikawa Railway to Takaoka Station, and transferred to the Himi Line straight to Himi. I honestly didn't expect the sashimi to be so fresh and affordable! For just 2,000 yen, you get incredibly fresh fish caught locally that exact day. We were also lucky enough to try a rare delicacy—the "Jewel of Toyama Bay," raw white shrimp (shiroebi), which was outstandingly sweet! The complementary fish soup was also incredibly flavorful. Talk about great value for your money! 📸 Himinoe Bridge ➔ Observatory ➔ Himi Banya-gai After a satisfying meal, we took a 10-plus minute stroll over to "Himi Banya-gai". Along the way, we passed Himinoe Bridge and the park's observatory, and the scenery was absolutely top-notch. Since there were barely any tourists that day, the area felt open, pristine, and perfect for snapping casual photos. At the observatory, we spotted a beautiful red tower. We initially thought we could climb it, but upon getting closer, we learned it was privately built by the owner as a memorial for a loved one who passed away early—a truly touching tribute. Next, we wandered around Banya-gai. It's a great place to shop! They have all sorts of local souvenirs: Himi udon, dried white shrimp, dried fish, and shrimp crackers, as well as specialty shops selling sake and local sauces. Since it was the blazing heat of summer, we also grabbed some ready-to-eat "Chilled Himi Udon" and ice cream to cool down. The taste was simply unmatched! ⚠️ 5 Tips for Visiting Himi (A Survival Guide): 1. 🚌 Timetables are everything: It’s best to snap a photo of the **latest train and sightseeing bus schedules** right at the station, as online info isn't always the most accurate. Taxis are scarce here, and most locals drive. For our return trip, we actually had to ask a shopkeeper at Banya-gai to call a cab to take us back to the station. 2. ⛱️ Sun protection is key: There are many open areas along the way with very little shade. Remember to bring an umbrella to block out the sun or rain. 3. 🚉 The missed gem of Amaharashi Coast: While riding the train, you’ll pass the famous **"Amaharashi Station"**, which I highly recommend getting off at to see the ocean. But since it was scorching hot that day, we ultimately decided to stay in the air-conditioned train car to enjoy the view (laughs). 4. 🎨 A treat for anime fans: Himi is the hometown of the famous manga artist Fujiko Fujio Ⓐ (best known for *Ninja Hattori-kun*). You'll find plenty of manga-inspired sculptures along the streets, and if you have time, you can check out the art museum in town. 5. ♨️ Free foot bath: There's a free hot spring foot bath right outside Himi Banya-gai. But given the summer heat, we opted to just "admire it from a distance" 🤪!

Himi City, Toyama Prefecture. I stopped by Himi Onsenkyo Sōyu during my trip to Toyama. I visited around 3 PM on a weekday, and the facility was relatively quiet, allowing me to spend a relaxing time. The view of the Tateyama mountain range from the indoor bath was spectacular, and I felt my travel fatigue slowly melt away. I was blessed with good weather, and enjoying the spectacular scenery typical of Toyama became a wonderful memory. The water was soft on the skin, and after bathing, my skin felt smooth. My body stayed warm for a while after getting out of the bath, and I could really feel the comfort of the hot spring. The facility was also clean, and I was pleased that the entire building was neatly maintained. There are massage chairs in the relaxation area, which is also appealing as you can relax after your bath. Furthermore, you can enjoy a meal at the Hokkori Shokudo restaurant inside the facility, so you can stay for a long time in addition to bathing. It is a hot spring facility that is perfect for a stopover during sightseeing.
