The Halona Blowhole is a famous natural geyser on the eastern coast of Oahu. When ocean waves crash and squeeze through the gaps in the volcanic reef, water shoots several meters into the air, accompanied by a deep, rumbling roar. After sunset, once the crowds at the observation deck had cleared out, I followed a rocky path outside the railing up to a high, flat natural stone ledge right beside the blowhole. For my game-watching setup, I strung a projector screen between two metal rails and secured the projector using rocks. Around the 80th minute of the match, the waves suddenly grew fiercer. Every ten seconds or so, the blowhole blasted a pillar of white water. The mist drifted onto the screen, refracting the light into rainbow halos around the players' movements. The last-minute winning goal happened in the very final minute of stoppage time. Exactly as the ball hit the back of the net, a massive wave surged in, and the blowhole erupted with its tallest water spout of the night. Accompanied by a booming, explosion-like roar, the whole crowd (which was just me and two other viewers) screamed in unison. It felt like the ocean was celebrating with us. Practical Tips: It's about a 30-minute drive east of Waikiki along the Kalanianaole Highway. The parking lot at the blowhole is free but pitch-black after sunset, so definitely bring a headlamp. The rocks are incredibly slippery, so wear sturdy non-slip shoes. The ocean mist can damage electronics, so make sure to protect your projector with a clear plastic cover. Cell service is solid. The nearest convenience store is about 5 kilometers away, so bring your own snacks and drinks. Why I recommend it: Watching a last-minute winner next to a blowhole feels like the ocean itself is crowning the goal with a roar. Experiencing the sheer power of nature perfectly synchronized with the climax of human competition was the most intense sensory thrill I’ve had in Hawaii. Sitting on the rocks staring out at the pitch-black ocean after that final goal, I couldn't help but think: the sea couldn't care less about football, but tonight, it became the ultimate hype man.

To be brutally honest without any filter: heading to the dreamy island of Hawaii in July is really tough. I expected a relaxing vacation by the blue sea and palm trees, but it coincides with the peak summer season across the US. The beach is packed like a crowded market, hotel and car rental prices have all surged, the midday sun is so intense you can’t even go outside, and half of the three-day itinerary was spent hiding from the sun and waiting in lines. The island vacation vibe was cut in half. I chose this place to fully immerse myself in the healing tropical island atmosphere, but the seasonal pitfalls made the whole trip exhausting. ① 📅 Three-day real itinerary, all the beauty and frustrations recorded D1 🏖️ Waikiki beach → Diamond Head hike → Kalakaua Avenue Waikiki is open all day for free. Before 7 AM, there are fewer people, so you can find a spot to wade and watch the sunrise 🌅; but after 9 AM, tour groups swarm in, and the beach is packed with people, making it hard to find a spot to lay a towel. Surf lessons have a one-hour wait. Diamond Head is open 6 AM–6 PM, $5 per car. You must catch the first group at 6 AM to get the best sea view from the summit 📸; in July, the summit is fully exposed at noon, the sun is so strong it makes your scalp tingle, and you can’t even open your eyes for photos. After dragging my luggage around for several days, on the last day of my trip, what I needed most wasn't to continue shopping at duty-free stores, but a place to sit down, rest, organize photos, and charge my phone. After completing security and immigration at Kansai International Airport, I didn't head straight to my gate, but instead went to the newly opened "KIX NORTH LOUNGE" (KIX No. 1 Lounge), which opened in April 2026. NORTH LOUNGE is located on the third floor of Terminal 1 at Kansai International Airport, north of the international departure area. Entry is only permitted after completing security and immigration procedures. After passing through the large duty-free shopping area, follow the "NORTH LOUNGE" signs to the north, then take the elevator or stairs to the third floor. It's not a luxury lounge for business class passengers, but rather a "credit card lounge" primarily for credit card members. My first impression upon entering was that I could finally escape the crowds and announcements of the airport. The VIP lounge spans approximately 318 square meters and features 105 seats, offering more space than expected. Seating options include single seats for relaxation, desks for convenient laptop use, and window seats with views of the tarmac. Charging facilities are readily available near most seats, a practical feature for travelers on long trips with constantly low phone batteries. If you manage to snag a window seat, you can enjoy a beverage while watching planes glide across the tarmac. What might otherwise be a mundane wait for boarding transforms into a quiet and therapeutic final memory of your journey. For aviation enthusiasts or those who enjoy photographing aircraft, the window seats are undoubtedly the top choice. The beverage area offers complimentary soft drinks, most notably a DIY non-alcoholic mocktail. Simply choose a French syrup, add ice, and then sparkling water to create a beautifully presented specialty drink. If you adjust your expectations beforehand, it's still very comfortable to use. NORTH LOUNGE also has a story behind the renovation of Kansai Airport. Kansai International Airport officially opened on September 4, 1994, on an artificial island in Osaka Bay. Due to increased passenger numbers, Terminal 1 underwent its first major renovation since its opening in 2021. Despite being a shopping mall, it felt like walking outdoors, and I enjoyed being able to stroll around at a leisurely pace while experiencing the Hawaiian atmosphere. There were large banyan trees and tropical plants, making it enjoyable not only for shopping but also for the time spent walking around. The shops offer a variety of fashion, general goods, and souvenirs, making it perfect for shopping during your trip. It felt convenient for both days when you want to do some serious shopping, and for a quick browse during an evening stroll around Waikiki. What was particularly convenient this time was the supermarket inside the hotel. Being able to browse for drinks, snacks, and light meals before returning to the hotel was incredibly helpful during my stay. It was also easy to stop by when I wanted to buy something light after eating out several times, or when I wanted to find additional souvenirs. Furthermore, there are restaurants and cafes inside the hotel, so it was nice to be able to take a break during shopping or enjoy a meal there. When the large, bone-in steak arrived, it instantly brightened up the table. It felt special to be eating steak in Hawaii, and I took photos and videos! 😍 The meat was substantial in size, yet flavorful with every bite, and the size was just right for sharing. And what I'm glad I ordered with it was the lobster macaroni and cheese. They open at 6:30 AM. We arrived around 6:40 AM this time, but there were already several groups waiting in line, which really showed how popular it is. Some pastries seem to sell out depending on the time of day, so if you have a specific item in mind, we highly recommend arriving early. This time, we mostly got croissants to go. They had beautiful, crispy layers, making them absolutely perfect for a relaxing breakfast back at the hotel. Dine-in is available, but the drinks felt a bit pricey, so we opted for takeout this time. My mother and I went on a 10-night, 12-day trip to Oahu (including a 1-night, 2-day trip to the Big Island) 🌺 Our April trip to Hawaii was affected by the storms of March, and our first day started with sunshine 🌧️ → clouds 💦 Even so, Hawaii was still exciting! 💕⤴️⤴️✨ · First Day Immigration was smooth with no questions asked, and everyone around us entered the country easily! We were fully prepared, but it was surprisingly empty. Perhaps it varies depending on the time of year and time of day? Check-in was at 3 PM, but we left our luggage and paid for everything there before heading to Waikiki Beach 🏖️ In April, there were fewer Japanese tourists and more Westerners. Since our hotel had a kitchen, we did some shopping and took a three-hour nap on the third floor of the International Market Place because we were tired and sleepy. The weather was perfect, and we could have slept forever! Check-in went smoothly, we unpacked at the hotel, and headed to Waikiki Beach! Even though it was cloudy, the palm trees were beautiful! We had booked our Diamond Head trip in advance from Japan, so we were blessed with good weather and climbed it! It's not particularly difficult overall, but the stairs towards the end are super steep, so we chose the gentler route to the summit, but we still encountered steep stairs in the end! We went to Manoa Falls, which we had given up on on the second day due to rain. It had been 10 years since our last visit, and it had been slightly renovated, with a larger parking area. The route used to be much easier, but it seems to have been closed off due to a disaster or something, making the climb to the falls quite challenging! Perhaps because the ground was muddy and covered in puddles due to the rain... Despite the rain, the waterfall looked rather ordinary, but I personally think it's a spot where you can receive a lot of nature and energy✨ After some more rain, the sun came out and we went to Kailua Beach and the Pillbox! We were blessed with good weather and climbed the Pillbox for the first time in a while♡, and Lanikai Beach as seen from the mountain is always beautiful🤩♡ There was no shade, so I got quite sunburned lol After descending the mountain and taking a nap at Kailua Beach, I went into the ocean, but the water temperature was quite low and it was cold🥶 Kailua Beach is convenient because there are toilets and a (small) changing area. However, it's a bit of a distance from Kailua town to Kailua Beach, but I always walk because I like the townscape. The next day, we planned to go to Pele's Chair, but due to various reasons, we changed our minds and went to our favorite Makapu'u'u Beach♡ It's right near Sea Life Park, which you can reach by bus🚌. The sea is deep and blue, and there are usually few people, so it's a beach I personally find very relaxing 🏖️ There are toilets 🚾 and showers. There are basically no places to eat, so you should bring your own food or just stop by a beach. My mother loves plants, so we went to Koko Crater Botanical Garden 🌿🌺🌳🏵️ It's a short walk after getting off the bus 🚌. April is the off-season, and there were almost no people due to the storm. There is no entrance fee. There weren't many flowers blooming at that time of year, and it seemed the storm had had quite an impact, so I was disappointed that I couldn't see the cacti 🌵 I was hoping to see, but I was healed by nature ♡ Normally there are toilets 🚾 near the entrance, but they were closed and unusable 💦 However, there were temporary toilets like those used at construction sites along the way, but I never expected to find one there! I thought that and just passed by... Please be careful with the restrooms ✨ · Summary- The weather was fifty-fifty, but the temperature was pleasant, and I didn't feel cold except on buses, in malls/supermarkets, etc. The cost of living is quite high, and there are tips, so I was surprised by the amount sent to my credit card via email, but I accepted it... Passport presentation was mandatory for purchasing alcohol, regardless of age (my 73-year-old mother was asked to show her passport when buying beer at Target). Marugame Seimen was crowded every single day. Rather than a full meal, think of it as dessert. This time, I had the açaí bowl. It looks vibrant and gorgeous, but the taste is incredibly refreshing and easy to eat. The açaí is smooth and not too heavy, and the perfect balance between the sweetness of the fruit and the crunch of the granola makes it ideal even for a late-night treat. Eating it at night in the warm Hawaiian breeze, it feels like a lovely little dessert and is exactly what you need for a light late-night snack. Because it's not overly sweet, I loved that I could comfortably finish it even after a meal. The shop is very welcoming, with a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to pop in at night. They're open daily from 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM.
