If you're tired of figuring out transportation on your own during your solo trips, a day tour is the way to go~ Plus, since both Amanohashidate and Ine are quite out of the way, trying to get there by yourself can be super time-consuming. Joining a tour group makes things so much easier~ The ride is a bit long, but the tour bus is spacious and comfy, and the guide won't talk your ear off while you're trying to nap~ Right after you hop off the bus, you'll be greeted by the stunning boathouses of Ine no Funaya~ It kind of gives off Cinque Terre vibes from Italy or those colorful wooden houses in Norway~ With the vast ocean right next to it, it's the perfect spot for some Instagram-worthy shots~ Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side that day, so the sky wasn't as brilliantly blue as in the promotional photos~ Lunch is out of pocket, and the schedule felt a bit rushed~ We only had about an hour in total to explore the fishing village and grab a bite~ Since the village is quite small, dining options are limited. I highly recommend heading straight to Ine Cafe and getting in line~ The food there is fantastic, and they have these huge glass windows facing the sea—the view is absolutely killer! This region is famous for its yellowtail, so don't forget to order a yellowtail rice bowl~ After lunch, it was time for the sightseeing boat cruise~ While on board, you can soak in the gorgeous views of the Ine boathouses and even feed the seagulls! They only eat a specific brand of shrimp crackers, which you can easily buy right there~ But watch out—there are tons of eagles out on the water, and they love the shrimp crackers too~ In fact, every time a bird swooped down for my crackers, it was an eagle... I have to admit, though, their precision is insane! As long as you hold your hand out steady, they won't scratch you at all~ Our final stop was Amanohashidate, and the cable car ticket was already included in the tour price~ Sadly, the weather took a turn for the worse by the time we got there, so my photos didn't turn out as great~ The coolest thing to do here is to stand on the little viewing platforms, bend over, and look at the sandbar upside down through your legs~ When you view it like that, it looks exactly like a dragon flying up into the sky~ They also have a few amusement park rides around the area~ You can just pay per ride if you want to try them out~ Since the line for the cable car heading back down can get pretty long, make sure to budget some extra time for queuing~ The ride down actually faces the ocean, making it a much better angle for taking photos~ Once you're back at the bottom, you can take a stroll toward the sandbar~ There's a sandy beach over there where you can dip your toes in the water~ To sum it up, this day tour is totally affordable and saves non-drivers a massive headache of navigating public transit~ Considering the tour fee covers both the boat cruise and the cable car, it's definitely a bang for your buck~ 📍Ine no Funaya 📍Amanohashidate

Grab a drink at a waterfront café and take in the peaceful fishing village views. ✔️ This route is much easier by car, making it one of the best scenic drives in the Kyoto area. ⸻ I visited Amanohashidate and Ine Funaya, and it turned out to be one of my favorite day trips from Kyoto. On the way to Ine, we stopped at Amanohashidate. The long pine-covered sandbar stretching across the bay is even more beautiful in person. It’s perfect for a relaxing walk, and there are plenty of spots where you can simply sit and enjoy the ocean breeze. One of my favorite places was the small torii gate by the water. It felt peaceful, and it made for some really beautiful photos with the sea in the background. After that, we continued to Ine Funaya, often called the “Venice of Japan.” The traditional wooden boathouses lined up along the calm bay create such a unique atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else in Japan. One of the best ways to enjoy Ine is simply slowing down. We stopped at a waterfront café and spent some time looking out over the quiet harbor. Every direction felt like a postcard. We also visited Tugboat Coffee while walking around the village. There isn’t really indoor seating, but their latte and ice cream were both surprisingly good. It’s a nice little stop if you need a quick break while exploring. If you have extra time, I’d also recommend taking the sightseeing boat. Seeing the Funaya from the water gives you a completely different perspective, and it’s easy to understand why this place has become one of Kyoto’s hidden gems. I visited two magical and stunning scenic spots that somehow felt nostalgic, making me feel as though I had wandered straight into a Studio Ghibli film! ✨ Highlight ①: The Living Maritime Heritage of "Ine no Funaya" First, I visited "Ine no Funaya" (Ine Boathouses), designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Right on the water's edge, these uniquely structured buildings—with boat garages on the first floor and residential spaces on the second—line up along the bay. The sea peeking through the boathouses is a crystal-clear emerald green! My heart was gently filled by the nostalgic scenery and the slow passage of time. During my stroll, I stopped by "INE CAFE," located right next to the sea. Enjoying a rich gateau chocolat and freshly brewed coffee while gazing at the calm ocean spreading across the window was pure bliss. ✨ Highlight ②: The Sunset Sanctuary "Yuhigaura Coast" Driving from Ine Town, I made my way to "Yuhigaura Coast" in Kyotango City. Selected as one of "Japan's Top 100 Sunsets," this beach is exceptionally breathtaking at dusk. On the wide, fine-sand beach sits the large wooden beach swing "Yurari," which is super popular on social media. Just swinging while feeling the ocean breeze makes you feel like the main character in a movie. Then, the long-awaited sunset arrived. The sky gradually turned deep red toward the horizon, and watching the sun slowly sink into the sea was an overwhelmingly beautiful sight that left me speechless. Even the lingering magic hour after sunset, where deep blue and orange blended together, made every single second feel like a treasure. Both spots share a gentle charm reminiscent of Japan's original landscapes, perfectly combined with the mesmerizing beauty of the sea. They overflow with a mysterious appeal that makes you feel "nostalgic" even if it's your first time visiting.
