Even in Tokyo, you can have a budget-friendly vacation without depriving yourself of anything. 💰 The biggest expense in Tokyo is usually accommodation. ☝️BUT! You don't necessarily have to book a place right in the city center. Consider looking into the suburbs—sometimes it's just a 20-30 minute subway ride, but the price difference is huge. 1️⃣ Accommodation: KAIKIN apartments in the Edogawa ward, near Kasai subway station. 7 nights cost me 52,810 yen (26,405 rubles). From here on, if you need to convert to rubles, just divide by 2 (the exchange rate is 0.5 according to the Central Bank for May 2026). These were clean, decently-sized apartments for Tokyo at this price point. Self check-in (the entry PIN is sent in advance) makes it super convenient. Plus, it’s only a 20-minute subway ride to downtown. 2️⃣ Subway — 4,560 yen. A ride from Kasai station to downtown using an ICOCA transport card (which I originally bought in Osaka) was 240 yen. 3️⃣ Bus to Haneda Airport — 1,200 yen. The bus conveniently departs right from Kasai station, and the ride only takes 20-40 minutes. 4️⃣ Breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and plenty of snacks — around 39,200 yen. I mostly grabbed my breakfasts at a konbini (convenience store) the night before to save time. Sandwiches, onigiri, pastries, yogurts, and ready-made meals ran about 400-600 yen per day. For lunches and dinners, I hit up ramen shops, cafes, and food courts. 🍜 A large bowl of excellent ramen was 1,000-1,500 yen. A food court lunch cost around 1,000-1,800 yen. Dining at an izakaya was a bit pricier—about 2,500-3,500 yen including a glass of beer. 🍷 A bottle of wine at a konbini was 700-1,500 yen. ☕ A cappuccino or latte at a coffee shop cost roughly 500-600 yen. 5️⃣ Shopping. Clothes and shoes — around 30,000 yen. Completely unnecessary, but such a delightful splurge! 🤗 🎬 Total: 127,770 yen. Everyone has their own priorities, and depending on your budget and preferences, you could easily spend more or less than this amount. By the way, my ticket 🚊 for the Kyoto-Tokyo Shinkansen cost 15,820 yen (I paid an extra 600 yen for a seat with the best view 🗻 of Mount Fuji, and it absolutely delivered!). ✈️ My flight from Tokyo to Moscow cost 55,884 yen (27,942 rubles).

In May 2026, I needed a place to stay in Tokyo for a week and had to decide on the right neighborhood. I was looking for something affordable yet comfortable (I’m perfectly fine with capsule hotels, but for a night or two at most). So, my main search criteria were: 1️⃣ a private space—either a room or an apartment, 2️⃣ a 20-30 minute commute to the city center via public transit, and 3️⃣ a nightly rate of no more than 8,000–10,000 JPY (about 4,000–5,000 RUB). 📍 I ended up picking Edogawa, specifically the area around Kasai Station. It’s a quiet neighborhood equipped with all the essential infrastructure for daily life. It only takes a quick 20-minute subway ride to get downtown. 🚍 Right next to Kasai Station is a bus terminal where you can catch a comfortable ride to ✈️ Haneda Airport in 20-40 minutes (depending on traffic) for 1,200 JPY, to ✈️ Narita Airport in about an hour for 1,800 JPY, and to Tokyo Disney Resort in just 20-30 minutes. 🛒 There’s a large supermarket nearby and tons of konbini (convenience stores) all around. 🎪 Local entertainment includes Kasai Rinkai Park—a massive green park right by the bay with a giant Ferris wheel and an aquarium—as well as the free Edogawa Natural Zoo. 🛋️ I stayed at the KAIKIN-Nakakasai apartments, just a leisurely 10-minute stroll to the subway. The perks included self check-in (you get an entry PIN code in advance), a decently sized room for the price, a balcony, and it was quite clean. Tested! Approved! Highly rated!

Heading to Kita-Harima, a renowned sake-producing region. This time, I went to a direct-sales store of the "Fukunishiki" sake brewery in Kasai City, Fukugura ✨ 📍 Kasai City, Hyogo | Fukugura @fukunishiki Inside the restored Meiji-era brewery building, the first floor is a shop & gallery, and the second floor is a restaurant & cafe. In a space that retains the traditional charm of a sake brewery, you can relax and enjoy a meal and sake ☺️ I made a reservation for lunch 🙌 Fukugura Bento (2,970 yen) The concept centers on dishes that highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients, primarily using seasonal local vegetables. Rather than being heavily seasoned to pair with alcohol, they feature a gentle flavor made with seasonal veggies. I loved it so much that I bought a bottle to take home as a souvenir ☻ Enjoying food and sake at the brewery was simply irresistible 🥰🍶 The shop is also lined with an impressive array of Fukunishiki sake. The neighborhood of Hedong's old residence is really getting better and better! On Mother's Day, I came across a newly opened Western restaurant, a century-old bungalow, with green leaves outside and a super good environment. Walking in, I felt like I was in Southern France. Ordered a coconut king, sat down to rest, the breeze blew, the shadows of the trees, quite a sense of holiday atmosphere, next time with friends to come again for lunch.

I don't have many opportunities to go to Kasai City in Hyogo Prefecture, so I decided to go out on a whim... From Sannomiya Station, the central station of Kobe City, the prefectural capital of Hyogo Prefecture, you can transfer to Shinkaichi on the Hanshin or Hankyu lines and head to Awo Station on the Kobe Electric Railway to board the Hojo Railway bound for Kasai City (Hojo-cho). The Hojo Railway is a single-car train, so it shakes quite a bit lol. The scenery is of the countryside, and you can experience a completely different worldview from Kobe City. First, I stopped off at Hokkeguchi Station. There was a bakery there that was very popular, but it seems to have closed down now, which is a shame. Leaving Hokkeguchi, I headed to Hojo-cho Station... This station has a lot of commercial facilities and chain stores, and is more prosperous than other stations. To finish off the trip, we had some Hojo Railway Cider before heading home. #0yentrip
