Start your adventure with an early boat ride from Labuan Bajo; morning hikes mean gentle sunlight and less heat. The main trail is a well-marked, winding path that takes about 30–45 minutes to the top—don’t rush, every turn reveals a new perspective! Must-do: pause often to snap photos with all three crescent bays in the background—the higher you climb, the more epic your shots. The famous “Classic Padar Shot” is at the very top, where you can frame the green ridges and blue waters in a single panoramic snap. 🌴 6 Days in Labuan Bajo – Komodo, Islands, Sunsets & Slow Days Labuan Bajo completely surprised me. I originally came for the incredible islands and Komodo National Park, but I ended up loving Labuan Bajo itself just as much. My trip had the perfect mix of adventure and slow travel Komodo dragons, Padar Island, Pink Beach, snorkelling, sunsets, paddleboarding, flying foxes, good food and plenty of time by the pool. Day 1 – Arrive & Sunset at Loccal Collection 🌅 Check into Loccal Collection and don't plan too much for your first day. The views from the hotel are incredible, particularly from the pool overlooking the ocean and islands. Day 2 – Komodo National Park Day Trip 🐉🏝️ This is the big adventure day and an absolute must when visiting Labuan Bajo. I did a full-day boat trip through Komodo National Park, including Padar Island, Pink Beach and Komodo Island. The climb up Padar Island is definitely worth it. Once you reach the viewpoint, you get that famous panoramic view across the different bays and surrounding islands. Then it was time for Pink Beach, with its beautiful pink-tinted sand and clear water. And, of course, one of the biggest reasons for coming to this part of Indonesia seeing the Komodo dragons. It was a long day, but absolutely worth it and easily one of the highlights of my trip. Day 3 – Le Flores Floating Restaurant & Paddleboarding 🏄♀️ After the big Komodo day, slow everything down. Spend the day at Le Flores Floating Restaurant. Have lunch and drinks, enjoy the views and hire a paddleboard to get out on the water. Don't rush off after eating. Make it a proper lazy island day. This was one of those simple holiday days that ended up being one of my favourites. Day 4 – Snorkelling, Island & Flying Fox Sunset Cruise 🦇⛵ In the afternoon, head out on another boat but this time for a much more relaxed sunset trip. My trip included snorkelling, an island stop and watching the flying foxes at sunset. Watching the sunset from the boat was such a beautiful experience. Definitely add this to your Labuan Bajo itinerary. Day 5 – Explore Labuan Bajo, Buso Give yourself a day without a strict schedule. Explore Labuan Bajo, wander around the harbour, stop somewhere for coffee and enjoy the town. Find somewhere beautiful for another sunset before heading out for dinner. I had an amazing dinner at Buso, which was one of my favourite meals during my stay. Day 6 – Pool Day & One Last Sunset ☀️🌅 Finish the trip slowly. Sleep in, have breakfast and spend some time by the pool. Don't feel like you need to squeeze another tour into the itinerary. One of the things I loved most about Labuan Bajo was simply sitting somewhere beautiful and taking in the views. Have one last drink overlooking the ocean and, of course, watch one final sunset. 💛 My Tips for Labuan Bajo My biggest recommendation is: don't rush it. A lot of people seem to use Labuan Bajo simply as the starting point for Komodo National Park, but there is so much more to enjoy. Do the big Komodo National Park day trip, climb Padar Island, see Pink Beach and the Komodo dragons. But also leave time for the slower experiences. Spend a day at a floating restaurant. Hire a paddleboard. Go snorkelling. Watch the flying foxes at sunset. Find some live music. Eat somewhere special. Sit by the pool with a drink. And watch as many sunsets as you possibly can. 🌅 Labuan Bajo reminded me that sometimes the best trips aren't about how many places you can fit into your itinerary. Sometimes you just need to slow down and enjoy exactly where you are. ❤️

📍 Komodo Island, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia (2024) I met the real-life dragons 2 years ago. I wouldn't call it a walk in the park—it's a long, steep climb, but every single step brings you closer to the dream. On the final morning of our Komodo cruise, we set sail for Kelor Island. Small, unassuming, and flying under the radar, it provided the perfect ending to our trip. 🏝️ Approaching from the water, the island welcomes you with a tiny white-sand beach and water so crystal-clear that you can see every single pebble on the sea floor. And now that all the highlights have been shared, I can honestly say: this destination turned out to be way more fascinating than just a trip to see the Komodo dragons. Labuan Bajo is a collection of completely different experiences rolled into one trip. It featured long boat rides, sunrises among the islands, unique beaches, snorkeling, breathtaking views from lookout points, and, of course, the famous Komodo dragons—the main reason many flock to this part of Indonesia. What I loved most was the sense of a true adventure. Waking up early in the middle of the ocean, spending the entire day exploring islands, swimming in crystal-clear waters, and being surrounded by landscapes that are hard to capture even in the most stunning photos. That said, Labuan Bajo isn't exactly a place where everything is perfectly organized and predictable. A lot depends on the weather, the boat you choose, your itinerary, and the crew. But this slight unpredictability is exactly what makes the journey feel so alive and unforgettable. I’d highly recommend staying for at least a few days and definitely setting aside time for a boat tour. The town itself can be explored pretty quickly, but the true magic of the region begins the moment your boat leaves the harbor and sets sail for the islands of Komodo National Park.
