We knew how beautiful the gorge was and always planned to visit. However, we hadn’t really considered actually trekking it because it seemed too complicated. Our itinerary looked like this: Lijiang - 2 nights in the Gorge - Shangri-La. We got from Lijiang to the Gorge on a regular public bus. We bought our tickets two days before departure at the Lijiang bus station. The price was 50 RMB per ticket. Upon entering the gorge, we were asked to pay an entrance fee of 45 RMB per person. A tourist center employee collected the payment right on the bus. Those who had already bought their tickets just had them checked. We were dropped off at the bottom of the Gorge, where there is a parking lot and excellent observation decks. You can also go further down to the river for free on foot or take an escalator for a fee. We didn't have time to go down, as we hadn't budgeted time for it, and our hotel pick-up had already arrived. Tourists are dropped off at the lower platform, but we had booked accommodation halfway along the gorge's hiking trail. DiDi (ride-hailing) wasn't recommended here, as there are few or no cars available. To get to our hotel, we contacted the hostess in advance, and she said she would pick us up. And she did. As far as we understood, hotels usually do this for free for their guests. We checked into our room with a stunning view and explored the surroundings. Next to us was the popular "Tea Horse Guesthouse" with a coffee shop and a restaurant. A cappuccino cost us 32 RMB per person and was delicious. The cafe was located a floor below and was slightly less pristine; we had breakfast there twice. A boiled or fried egg cost 3 RMB each. Traditional Naxi flatbreads with various fillings were 25-35 RMB. The portions were large, filling, and tasty. On the downside, it was slightly unsanitary and a bit greasy, but we didn't get food poisoning. The next morning, we decided to walk along the trail, just for 2-3 hours one way, enjoy the scenery, and return to our hotel by evening. We walked to the waterfall (about 2 hours one way), took a ton of photos, and realized just how breathtaking the trail could be. We wanted to keep walking all the way to the end. But we had to return to the hotel. The following day, we were scheduled to head to Shangri-La. We had already booked our hotel, but we didn't have bus tickets out of the gorge yet. We asked our hotel hostess to drop us off at the bus stop. She went above and beyond: she booked our bus tickets on the spot and drove us right to the bus. And we safely set off for Shangri-La. Note that the drop-off point when you arrive is different from the bus stop where you leave for Lijiang or Shangri-La. You depart from the bus stop opposite Tina's Guesthouse. If I had a better understanding of where we were going, I would have done things a bit differently: 1. Booked the first hotel in the same area for the first night, and the second night near the end of the trail, such as Tina's Guesthouse or another option that suited our budget and preferences—there are plenty of choices. 2. Arranged in advance with one of the hotels to transfer our luggage from the first hotel to the second, allowing us to comfortably hike the section from the middle to the end of the trail. This is about a 3.5-hour walk, plus stops for coffee and photos. 3. Left some time to go down to the river either at the beginning or the end of the route. This would be the perfect option for those who love mountains but dislike steep climbs. By starting from the middle of the trail, you get spectacular views while skipping the grueling "28 Bends" at the start of the hike.

The area is quite large and involves a lot of walking. ▫️ Timing: Try to visit on a sunny day; 1-2 hours before closing, there are fewer people and softer light, perfect for portrait shots. ▫️ Sun Protection: The UV rays in Yunnan are very strong! The name "Qibuchang" literally translates to "Seven-Step Market". It was once a trading hub and gradually evolved into a community famous for its tofu-making. The highlight is that almost every household here "makes their own tofu", passed down through generations, turning it into a truly authentic tofu village. The walls you see aren't just for photo ops, they tell the real-life stories of everyone in the village. From grinding beans at the crack of dawn to carrying tofu on shoulder poles to sell all day, all to provide for their families. 📖 During World War II, Kunming was a crucial base and tofu became a staple food for the people of that era.
