#bestsunset #100waysoftravel Lund, a charming university town in southern Sweden, captures a blend of ancient history and youthful energy. Founded in 990, Lund boasts cobbled streets and medieval structures, but the heart of the town is undoubtedly Lund University, one of the oldest and most prestigious in Scandinavia. Its students fill the city with life, adding to the atmosphere created by centuries-old buildings and cozy cafes. Strolling through Lundagård, the lush park surrounding the university, you'll encounter the grand Lund Cathedral, a Romanesque masterpiece dating back to 1145. Its astronomical clock, a unique relic, comes to life several times a day, while the cathedral's crypt reveals a mystical world with ancient stone columns and mythic carvings. Nearby, Kulturen museum provides a deep dive into Sweden’s past, showcasing everything from Viking artifacts to traditional Swedish homes. One of Lund’s most enchanting aspects is its walkability. Wandering along its quiet streets, you'll stumble upon pastel-painted cottages and hidden gardens, a testament to Lund’s blend of old and new. The Botanical Gardens, filled with diverse plant species, offer a relaxing escape from the urban scene, and in spring, cherry blossoms make the space unforgettable. Whether visiting for its historical sites, the academic ambiance, or the local charm, Lund is a town that invites exploration and rewards curiosity. Its balance of tradition and vibrancy makes it more than just a picturesque stop—it’s a memorable experience that lingers long after you’ve left.

Viborg Cathedral (Vor Frue Domkirke) is straight-up a jaw-dropping icon in the heart of historic Viborg, central Jutland, Denmark—and honestly, it’s giving major main character energy! 🤩 Why Viborg Cathedral Deserves a Spot on Your Denmark Bucket List · Architecture That Wows: Today’s cathedral is a mega-impressive 19th-century Neo-Romanesque granite beast. Inspired by the legendary Lund Cathedral in Sweden, this place is so massive, it’s rumored to be the world’s largest granite church. Standing under those stone arches? You’ll feel like you swiped right with the Middle Ages. · Historic Underground Vibes: Descend into the crypt—Denmark’s oldest Romanesque chamber, it’s a literal 900-year-old throwback! Built after Bishop Eskild (RIP—he was murdered before the altar in 1133, drama much?), this underground hidden gem totally survived the flames that destroyed the rest of the cathedral. · Royal Tea: King Erik V (aka Erik Klipping) was royally executed in 1286 (at Finderup Barn) and now rests in front of the cathedral’s high altar. True crime meets royal history? Instant chills! 👑 · Epic Art Vibes: The walls are an entire art gallery! Between 1901–1906, artist Joakim Skovgaard and his squad painted 84 gorgeous frescoes that turn the cathedral into a “visual Bible.” Yup, every wall is Instagram-worthy. From Viking Vibes to Insta Inspo: The Long Story of Viborg Cathedral For a thousand years, Viborg Cathedral has seen all the main plot twists: Viking churches, royal drama, scorching city fires, epic rebuilds, and the Protestant Reformation. Here’s how the timeline goes down: · 1065: Diocese of Viborg established · c. 1130: Cathedral construction starts (thanks, Bishop Eskild!) · 1133: Bishop Eskild murdered—crypt completed soon after · 1286: King Erik V assassinated and buried here · 1520s: Hans Tausen (“Danish Luther”) shakes things up during the Reformation · 1501, 1567, 1726: Multiple city-wide fires—yikes! Only the medieval crypt survives · 1862–1876: The church gets a full glow-up—think granite on granite, inspired by Lund Cathedral · 1901–1906: Skovgaard’s Insta-famous frescoes cover the interior walls How to Visit Like a Pro Viborg Cathedral is Central Jutland’s #1 culture spot, welcoming over 100,000 curious minds each year. Find it here: Sct. Mogens Gade 4, 8800 Viborg, Denmark Opening Hours: · Summer (May 1 – Sep 30): Mon-Sat 11:00 AM–5:00 PM | Sun/Holidays 12:00 PM–5:00 PM · Winter (Oct 1 – Apr 30): Mon-Sat 11:00 AM–3:00 PM | Sun/Holidays 12:00 PM–3:00 PM Heads up! The cathedral is closed during services, weddings, or baptisms—so check ahead if you want full access. Entry Fees: · Standard: Around 10 DKK (pay in cash or Danish MobilePay at the door) · Kids (0–14): Free with an adult · Worshipers: Free if attending a service Top Things You Gotta See: · Down The Crypt: The coolest 900-year-old underground spot! Look for St. Kjeld’s Well—the historic vibes are unmatched. · Bronze Entrance Doors: Peep those contemporary bronze reliefs (from 2012!) by artist Maja Lisa Engelhardt. · Snap Away: Feel free to take personal pics and vids—just don’t include other visitors in your shots. ⛪️✨ Lund Cathedral — The Ancient Cathedral of Lund 🇸🇪 In the heart of Lund, an ancient city in southern Sweden, stands a magnificent sandstone architectural masterpiece that has stood the test of time for almost 900 years: Lund Cathedral (Lunds domkyrka). This Romanesque cathedral with its twin towers, approximately 55 meters high, has become an iconic image of Lund ✨ (Svenska kyrkan). The exterior is striking with its sandstone walls and architectural lines that exude a solemn, serene, and powerful aura. The interior, however, is filled with fascinating historical details, particularly the ancient astronomical clock and the crypt, an older part of the cathedral dating back to the Middle Ages 🌿 (Svenska kyrkan). What makes this place particularly charming is the atmosphere where time seems to slow down. Soft light falls on the stone walls, the sound of footsteps echoes in the old halls, and small details tell the stories of people from centuries past. Every corner feels like a step back in time to experience Scandinavian history 🤍 📍 Location: Kyrkogatan 6, Lund 🎟️ Admission to the Cathedral: Free ⏰ General Opening Hours: Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–6:00 PM | Saturday 9:30 AM–5:00 PM | Sunday 9:30 AM–6:00 PM. Hours may vary on special occasions or events (Svenska kyrkan). 💡 Highlight: If visiting on a weekday, be sure to see the Astronomical Clock at 12:00 PM or 3:00 PM. There is also a short lecture about the clock at 11:45 AM every weekday (Svenska kyrkan). ✨ Lund Cathedral — A beauty that needs no words; time itself has told its story. #LundCathedral #Lund #Sweden #TravelSweden

As the largest country in Northern Europe, Sweden stretches over 1,500 km from north to south, with a vast range of character: the south features pastoral castles and colorful fishing villages, the center has forests, lakes, and ancient towns, and the northern Lapland enters the Arctic Circle, where auroras, reindeer, and Sami culture take turns appearing. City strolls, coastal island hopping, wilderness hiking, and aurora hunting all offer unique surprises. 🌍 Where to go in Sweden? 📍 Gothenburg & Bohuslän | Maximum West Coast Relaxation Gothenburg is Sweden's second-largest city, more laid-back than Stockholm, and the gateway to West Coast cuisine and the archipelago. You can explore the city slowly by tram, eat cinnamon rolls in the colorful wooden houses of the Haga district, visit the kid-friendly Universeum science center, or board submarines and warships at the Maritiman Maritime Museum. The Bohuslän coast is known as Sweden's "most beautiful coast," with fishing villages dotting the rugged granite shoreline. Smögen, Fjällbacka, and Grebbestad are classic towns perfect for eating oysters and lobster or kayaking through the fjords. Also recommended are the Tanum Rock Carvings (a World Heritage site) and Carlsten Fortress on Marstrand Island. 📍 Kiruna & Lapland | Auroras and Ice & Snow Wonders The premier region of Northern Sweden, one of Europe's last remaining wild frontiers. Kiruna is the largest city in the north, thriving on iron mining; the entire city is currently "relocating," and the underground mine tour feels like science fiction. The Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi is the world's first ice hotel, rebuilt annually with ice from the Torne River; sleeping in an ice-sculpted art suite is an unforgettable experience. Abisko National Park is the gold standard for aurora viewing, with a unique "blue hole" microclimate that ensures a high probability of clear skies, and the Aurora Sky Station cable car offers unobstructed views from the summit. The King's Trail (Kungsleden) is Sweden's most famous hiking route, with the Abisko section being the highlight. Jokkmokk is a hub for Sami culture, featuring reindeer racing and craft markets at the winter market in February. Classic experiences: dog sledding, snowmobiling, reindeer sledding, and Sami tent dinners. 📍 Skåne & Dalarna | Cultural Heritage and Pastoral Life Skåne is located at the southernmost tip of Sweden, featuring castles, white sandy beaches, and distinctive half-timbered towns, making it perfect for cycling exploration. The Turning Torso in Malmö is a landmark, just a half-hour train ride from Copenhagen; Lund is a thousand-year-old university town with a Romanesque cathedral worth seeing; Österlen has white beaches and art villages; Sofiero Castle Garden is stunning in spring and summer; in Helsingborg, you can climb the Kärnan tower to overlook the Danish coast. Dalarna represents traditional Swedish culture, where red wooden houses, Dala horses, and folk music originated. Visit Nusnäs to see Dala horses being hand-carved and painted, and even try it yourself; the Falun Copper Mine is a World Heritage site; the towns around Lake Siljan are picturesque, and the Midsummer festival celebrations are particularly grand. 📍 Gotland | Medieval Island Sweden's largest island. The entire Old Town of Visby is a World Heritage site, with intact medieval walls, cobblestone alleys, and church ruins. During Medieval Week in August, the whole city dresses up to travel back to the 14th century. Fårö Island is the spiritual home of director Ingmar Bergman, with stark and photogenic sea stacks. Cycle around the island, visit fishing villages, and watch the sunset—a summer vacation spot that is tranquil in winter. ✅ N Must-Do Experiences in Sweden 1. Hike the highlight section of the King's Trail: The Abisko to Kebnekaise section takes 2 days; you might encounter moose, and there are mountain huts for accommodation in summer. 2. Take the Inlandsbanan (Inland Line) train across the Arctic Circle: Coniferous forests and tranquil lakes outside the window, where solitude and romance coexist. 3. Go kayaking: In the Gothenburg or Stockholm archipelago, the view from the water is more interesting than exploring the city. 4. Attend the Jokkmokk Winter Market: The oldest Sami gathering in Northern Europe in early February; eat reindeer meat and watch sled dog racing. 5. Dog sledding or Icelandic horse riding: Traverse snowy forests near Kiruna for thrills you can't experience in the city. 🚗 Transportation Guide Train: SJ covers the whole country, with dense networks in the south and service to Kiruna in the north; book in advance for better deals. Discounts available for those under 26, students, and seniors. Bus: Flixbus and Vy offer great value, 30%–50% cheaper than trains, but slower, and schedules may be reduced on weekends and during summer. Ferry: Essential for visiting Gotland or island hopping; some road ferries are free, but book popular routes in advance. Car rental: Offers freedom but is expensive; road conditions are good, and there are no tolls. Drive on the right and keep headlights on at all times. Winter tires are mandatory from November to March. Watch out for moose and speed cameras. Bicycle: Southern Sweden is bike-friendly, with dedicated routes in Skåne and Småland; folding bikes can be taken on trains/buses. 🍽️ Dining & Accommodation Tips No mandatory tipping: You can round up a few kronor for good service, but no extra tipping is needed for hotel housekeeping or taxis. Bring your own sheets: STF hostels or budget accommodations often require you to bring your own bed sheets and duvet covers, or rent them on-site; be sure to check the booking terms. Age restrictions for alcohol: High-proof alcohol can only be purchased at Systembolaget; you must be 20 or older with a passport to enter, and they are closed on Sundays. Fika is a belief: Find a café anytime to sit down, have a cinnamon roll and coffee, and experience the daily ritual of the Swedes. 🗺️ Itinerary Reference 👉 Classic Southern Route: Stockholm 3 days (city + island hopping) → Train to Gothenburg 2 days (West Coast seafood) → Rent a car for Malmö/Lund 2 days (Skåne castles and pastoral life) → Return from Copenhagen. 👉 Winter Aurora Dream Route: Stockholm 2 days → Overnight train to Abisko 3 days (aurora hunting) → Kiruna 2 days (iron mine adventure, Icehotel, dog sledding) → Return. Save this guide and find an opportunity to go to Sweden to experience the aurora, islands, and the relaxation of fika~

From Copenhagen, we caught the train across the Øresund Bridge to Lund. Explore the old town, visit Lund Cathedral, and enjoy a relaxed stroll through the narrow streets. Lund is a compact city that's easy to explore on foot, packed with historic architecture and plenty of photo-worthy spots. 📸 After finishing up in Lund, we took the train to Malmö for a quick walk through town before heading back to Copenhagen. It's a simple cross-country day trip: Copenhagen 🇩🇰 → Lund 🇸🇪 → Malmö 🇸🇪 → Copenhagen 🇩🇰 No need to rush or over-plan—just wandering around and taking photos is fun enough. ❤️

A peaceful, laid back little escape with charming streets, delicious pistachio crêpes, and the sweetest servers who made the experience even better. 🥞💚☕️ Honestly, I didn’t need much more than a simple day wandering around and taking it all in. Sometimes, an ordinary day is more than enough. 🌿🚶♂️✨ #Lund #SwedenTravel #VisitSweden #Scandinavia #traveleurope #travel#myitinerary#citydaytours#localfood

Before going to Sweden, the biggest dilemma was accommodation. After all, prices are not cheap, and I was afraid of spending money but not being comfortable. This time, I personally tested four hotels in different cities, from the city center to the Arctic Circle wilderness. Each one exceeded expectations. Choosing the right accommodation really doubles the happiness of the entire trip! · -- 🧥 Ultimate Winter Travel Warmth Guide 🧥 Base layer: Quick-dry thermal underwear, be sure to choose wool; you won’t feel cold even when sweating. Indoor heating is strong, add it when it’s cold outside. 🧥 Outer layer: Windproof and waterproof shell jacket or thick down coat, must be long to cover your hips because the wind is really strong. 🧥 Bottoms: Fleece-lined thermal pants + waterproof ski pants, no fear of getting wet rolling in the snow. 🧥 Accessories: Fleece hat (covering ears), scarf, touchscreen gloves (no need to take off for photos), snow boots (non-slip and waterproof). 🧥 Magic item: Stick a heat pack on the back of your phone. A city that captivates at first sight, the moment you arrive, the midday sun is just right, and a gentle breeze blows, the air you breathe is full of freedom, and your study abroad life officially begins! Lund University has no walls, scattered throughout the city, closely integrated with the city itself. 1. A charming little town that’s hard on your feet, with quaint cobblestone streets full of historical weight, perfect for slow strolling and savoring. Around the next corner, there’s always a surprise—maybe a church, a vine-covered academic building, a flowerpot, or even a window. 2. A great blend of history and modernity: the weathered and solemn Lund Cathedral, real-time arrival buses, trams, and trains, cobblestone bike lanes running parallel to tram tracks. Buses, trams, and platforms all have charging spots, so as long as you carry a data cable, you can keep exploring without running out of power. 3. Bicycles and balance scooters appear everywhere, an indispensable part of the city’s scenery, adding lots of vitality. 4. Flowers and greenery are everywhere—on balconies by the streets, in roadside supermarkets... a sea of green full of life. The exterior walls of the Lund Library are wrapped in plants, soaking up sunlight and rain, thriving with photosynthesis. 5. Actually, Nordic people aren’t that distant; if you ask for directions, they’ll patiently and warmly answer, and if you point a camera at them, they’ll even wave and say hi. 6. I love cities with trams; they always feel more peaceful and fairy-tale-like. The green trams connect and decorate the city. 7. It’s really relaxing here; at street-side restaurants, you’ll see Nordic people enjoying afternoon tea and champagne in the afternoon. 8. The crows here are quite plump, you can spot little rabbits in the park, and from time to time, birds that look like seagulls fly overhead...

Lovely city in the province of Skane. Centuries old Lund Cathedral built in the Romans queen style. The Kulturen open-air museum features replicas of buildings from medieval times to the 20th century. The Lund University Historical Museum displays archaeological relics from the Stone and Bronze ages, plus a large coin collection. A great day out if you are in Malmo.

#holidayitinerary Walking around Lund is super chill and kind of magical in a small town way. The streets are full of charm with old brick buildings, cobblestone paths, and little gardens tucked between houses. It’s a university town, so there’s a fun student energy, but it still feels calm and laid back. The Lund Cathedral is right in the center and looks super old and impressive, plus the park behind it is great for a slow wander. You can just follow your feet and end up in cute squares, quirky shops, or cafés with cinnamon buns and coffee. Everything is pretty close together so no need to rush. The whole vibe is peaceful but alive, like the perfect mix of history and everyday life. Great place for a slow citywalk where you can just enjoy the small details and soak up the atmosphere without needing a plan at all.
