Both Voldenham and Marken are offered as. aday trip from Amsterdam. During my lengthy stay and since I had a accomodaitons set in Utrecht at a friend's place. I did a lot of day trips from there. Thus ofcourse would have been closer form Amsterdam. But I saved much more on accomodaiton than the travel cost difference. My train journeys in Netherlands have been very comfortable. So I figured out my transport options and chose trains over buses. The plan was to ride a train to Volendam, explore and then get a boat to marken. It worked out perfectly well. Marken is a cute fishing village. It has a boutique sort of colorful appearance. Like with me, most people come here for the laid back atmosphere. There is no long list of things to see. But it's more about strolling seeing this beautiful village, it's canals, gardens, the church and port. You've got some places go eat as well. Getting There - We flew from Glasgow found it very easy to get the train to the city and it was extremely cheap €4-6 ! So much so we spent half of our stop over home , back in the city centre, no hassle and no rush. We did meet a couple who grabbed a taco from the airport and it cost them €180 😱 they were dropped at the central train station Attractions - chocolate factory, cheese shops Hotels - This hostel was modern , room very cramped it’s just for sleep. We did find it rather stuffy but well worth the money. Toilets were shared but spotless Food & Restaurants - lost my appetite after my cake and it was only one night so we skipped dinner but I have been previously and the steam is to die for Shopping - expensive

Marken Island is about 45 minutes away from Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands 🏝️🇳🇱 Even though it's an island, it's currently connected to the mainland by a dike, so it's easy to access 💡 After all, island travel is the best 🥳✨ I loved the scenery of the idyllic fishing village 💛 It's a small island, so you can walk around! I walked because I wanted to go to the lighthouse, which is the furthest away 😎! I think it took about 35 minutes on foot 🚶 There weren't many people walking to the lighthouse, most of them were cycling 🚴💦 But isn't the view from the lighthouse the most beautiful ☺️🥰?
